Gerstlauer1
Yesterday i came home from a unforgettable trip to Heide Park. We where there from 29/5 to 31/5. I have never been to the park before, here is my first impressions and thoughts. So, the trip started of, with us leaving Copenhagen in a train that goes straight to Hamburg early in the morning. - It took about 4 and a half hour from Copenhagen to Hamburg, not to bad. When we then arrived in Hamburg we had 2 hours before our train for "Wolterdingen" (Heide Park's closest station) departed, so we checked out Hamburg in the meantime. Nice city, did not see to much of it though. When we finally was on the train for "Wolterdingen", we found out that we had to switch trains on another station on the way, pretty lame considering that on Heide Park's website it says "Direct train from Hamburg)! Well anyway, at 3:30 PM we arrived at "Wolterdingen" which is a VERY small station in a small town mixed with cornfields and forest. To get to Heide Park from there, we had to walk about 2 km, not much. When we finally stood outside the entrance of the park, my first thoughts where that this is a very beautiful park! We headed up to Hotel Port Royal, which was where we where going to stay for to nights. The hotel itself is absolutely fantastic, the theming is incredible, the food and everything. I highly recommend it if you are going to Heide Park! It's very good value. From the Hotel you have a entrance straight into the park itself, the first "big attraction" that meets the eye from here is Krake. A B&M Dive Coaster which opened this year. It was some amazing days! Here's a list of the coasters and my small reviews of them. Big Loop - Arrow Looper (3) This was the first coaster of the trip, i had heard that it was a bit rough, and i did not expect anything from it. I was actually positively surprised, it was a pretty fun coaster, the first drop manage to give you a nice pop of airtime if you are sitting in the back. The two loops have some pretty good g's, and the corkscrews is fun too. Also after the corkscrews there is a 'sort of' brake-run which at the start, actually gives some good airtime if you are sitting in the front of the train. It's an fun coaster, rough? yeah a bit, but it's fun, and they should keep it IMO, it looks gorgeous over the lake! Collosos - Intamin Pre-Fab Woodie (7) This is my second Intamin woodie, after Balder. This coaster has an impressive height of 60 meters, and a speed of 120 km/h! It was an awesome coaster seriously, the first drop is very good! The two airtime hills following it is the best airtime i have ever got! All in all a very awesome coaster. Compared to Balder, i don't really know which of these i like better. Well Balder is smoother, but Collosos' airtime beats Balder's in my opinion. When that is said, they both has an awesome first drop... Can't decide... Desert Race - Intamin Accelerator (7) This coaster seems to be in the "Extremes" category on the park map.. I liked it, it just was not "extreme" i guess it is for the GP. Well the launch is pretty good, not as good as Kanonen's launch, (yeah Kanonen!) but good the rest of the ride just needs some T-bars. Don't get me wrong, this is and awesome coaster, it just did not had my adrenaline pumpin. Grotten Blitz - Mack Powered Coaster (1) This was a nice credit! Probably the best powered i have ridden! It has some really neat theming and it has a section where it goes indoor while some cool effects is happening. Good ride. Indy Blitz - Zierer Kiddie (1) Yeah, credit whoring, but a good beginner coaster, actually it has some well g's in the first helix. Nice litlle coaster with some very good 'western' theming! Sweizer Bobahn - Mack Bobsled (2) Well this one was simply a must, as it's pretty unique nowadays. When i saw that it still was "in store" on macks website, i was like: "Im gonna go buy this and build it on a hillside, that would be amazing" haha yeah, then i rode it... MUCH rougher than i actually thought, but oh well, it was a pretty funny coaster and it is very good looking IMO... A nice family coaster, the GP seems to liked it. Limit - SLC (1) O.M.F.G I have NEVER in my entire life ridden anything that painful! OMG, i have heard allot of complaints about it, so i was looking forward to ride it, to see if it actually was that bad. And wow! I got surprised! What a piece of crap! It was so terrible! The only good thing about this ride, was a little pop of airtime at an odd looking element right after the loop thing after the firstdrop. And also it was VERY intense! But in that scary way...! Krake - B&M Dive Machine (10) New for 2011 was Krake! I have followed the construction of this coaster pretty close, so i was very exited about it! The first thing you'll notice when you are going through the entrance to the coaster is the awesome theming! and as you approach closer to the loading building there is a german voice speaking about the Krake en a scary way! The lines where very acceptable my whole stay, and speaking about the queue, it was a pretty good looking one too. Now, the ride itself, is awesome! I like the backseat the most because of the better airtime you get on the firstdrop. The First Drop is good, thats it! The Immelmann is probably the best Immelmann i have ever gone through, wow! it comes with the perfect speed through! It provides some pretty nice airtime there! Afterwards theres a little hill, which LOOKS like it would provide some good airtime, hmm it does manage to make some very soft floater, it's okay. So overall a very good addition to Heide Park's coaster lineup, which is awesome! - The coaster has a good mix of different forces, providing really awesome airtime on the firstdrop, pretty strong g's in the bottom of the first drop. A really good Immelmann taken with perfect speed, and a very soft floater hill. This coaster is also the SMOOTHEST coaster i have ridden to date! It's mind blowing how smooth is is! WOW! So that was my thoughts in (MANY ) words! Hope you liked it - Have and awesome day! Kian Edited June 2, 2011 by Gerstlauer1
The SETGO Guys
Kian, Great trip report! It sounds like you had a great visit to Heide Park! Too bad about the Arrow and the Vekoma, but the rest of the rides sound awesome! I really want to head out to this park! Desert Storm is a great ride. Of course you need to come on down to Florida to come ride Shiekra! (And all our awesome coasters!) Thanks! -Zach

AstroDan
I agree about Limit - probably the worst looping coaster I have ever been on. Yes, worse even than Goudurix. It was shocking, an embarassment in fact. It's a pity that Heide Park is clearly starting to see the pinch from Merlin... the amount of street entertainment was very low for a major German park, and there were adverts for Express passes and Merlin Annual Passes everywhere - you don't get this at the likes of Phantasialand or Europa-Park. It is still pleasant, though. Wasn't quite sure what to make of the beautiful square to the right of the entrance street, which had a Mack Tea Cup ride in the middle? It was completely closed off with a fence... I also liked riding Big Loop. As an ex-Alton Towers ride host who worked on Corkscrew, it was great to ride inthe train again (if you didn't know, one of Corkscrew's trains went to Heide Park). B-RadG
So glad that people love Krake. It's just one of those cute little things that wants everyone to love it. Seriously though, if I ever go to Germany, Heide is near the top of my list. Nice report.
