djcoaster Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Hello, I've got NL for about a year but never had time to start something interesting. I made a first "coaster" that just featured a drop, followed by a vertical loop and final breaks in order to get used to the software. It was really horrible so I decided to read advices and to take more time for it. So here's my first attempt on NL => Jungle Chase (wouahh! what an inspiration ) Some things to say about that Eurofighter: -- I know, the lift is pretty unrealistic, but I found it cool and esthetical and decided to keep it -- Some parts may be over or under supported and some supports may be also unrealistic but I try to make my best and didn't past a lot of time to study Gerstlauer structure -- I didn't use Terraformer or any calculator for the moment, that'll be for the next project -- There's no real theme, I just tried to insert pre-built scenery to see how it worked Even with the time I spent on shaping the track, I encountered a lot of problems with the banked elements and the result shows it. There's a lot of pumps I would like to erase. I tried the "locked handles" function to modify 1 part of the ride but it didn't really work or I just must have to use it properly... >> Nolimits Editor is well made but I didn't find 1 function that is very important for me. When I start creating a ride (from station to middle brakes for example), I would like to get a preview of the speed of the train to see if it goes at a correct speed in the hill, loop or whatever...I can get an idea of it, but I don't have the real value. So let me know your opinion and if you have any advice, tip or idea, don't hesitate. Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KkncQjnUs8 Jungle Chase.nltrack Edited September 22, 2010 by mcjaco
Reviar Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I can already tell you the video is no longer available due to copyright by sony. If you've noticed this yourself then sorry for posting
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 ^It's working fine for me. It even has the track listed under the video, meaning its one of the songs "allowed" on YouTube.
let1gre Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 ^It's back. As for the coaster, I enjoyed it. There were quite a few pumps but that's something you're aware of, so I'll leave that up to you. Also, I felt that the pacing was just a little slow overall.
Reviar Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Looks as if Sony doesnt like sweden then, copyright grounds suck =(
djcoaster Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 I know for the copyright but I didn't have time to re-record videos from NL (fraps) and I didn't find it very embarassing. That's my first video - making project but you can notice the copyright doesn't appear anymore at about half the video It's pretty slow paced, I agree, that's why I asked one important question in the 1st post: is there any way to get a preview of the speed without finishing the ride ? How do you build your track? How do you bank your turns without knowing the speed at that point? You can estimate it but that's all. In fact I have to do like that (?): your work on the editor, complete the ride, go into simulator, then check every meter of track, write the information on a paper and then modify in the editor again. Is there any way to get a preview in the editor when, for example, creating the first drop? I've got lot of things to learn. Thanks for your feedback !
BaMiTsPaT Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I think this is a really cool concept, especially the lift hill and drop, but it is quite slowly paced. Still a sweet coaster though!

One thing I do is when I'm done with a drop or a portion of the track, I go to Edit > Connect and ride the simulator and just ignore the atrocious ending. That way, you can ride your coaster bit by bit without having to finish it entirely first. Afterwards, Edit > Disconnect and keep building.
davisal771 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Or, you could just change the coaster mod to "shuttle" when you wanna test...
let1gre Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Or, you could just change the coaster mod to "shuttle" when you wanna test... I have all these terrible roaundabout ways of doing everything! I really need a manual or something.
