Sir Clinksalot Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 When we went to Dorney we got there 90 minutes before closing with every intention of going back the next day to finish the park. Without even rushing we rode everything (even including multiple rides on Steel Force, Talon, Laser and the Whip) within the 90 minutes. Of course, the park was absolutely dead and the waterpark was closed (otherwise we probably would have gone the next day).
Hercules Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 ^ That is typical if it is not the summer or during October.
thrillrider Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Living in michigan, I take full advantage of the warm weather to ride the coasters. In the winter, we have kalahari not too far from here. So I tend to save the water park for the winter, that way I can get some kind of thrill during the coaster off season. In order for me to do a water park in the summer, it has to be extremely hot like over 100 degrees.
Goliath513 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 the types of people that go there take a lot of the charm away from the park. This isn't just limited to Dorney. Every decent sized park in the country I've been too seems to have this problem and I'm sure most others do too.
thrillrider Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 Lol^^^ I felt like I was in another world, when I was at Indiana beach.
RomanHORSEman Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Went to Dorney Park for the first time ever yesterday! Great park very clean and none of the rides were terrible. The one thing I didn't understand was the Revolution not allowing me to ride. I am not that big I am about 6' 3" 260 pounds and most people tell me I'm not that big and was denied because "the light didnt turn on" and was sent on my first ever walk of shame from an amusement ride. But other than that Dorney was great other than the mass amounts of camp groupds there
thrillrider Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 Hmmm... I am almost the same as you, and I had no problem. Might have been a bad seat.
tatertot3710 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 There are larger seats I believe on the end of the rows...didn't know if you tried one of them.
RomanHORSEman Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I did I tried two and the restraint came all the way down maybe two bad seats who knows. I didn't get to ride the Claw the day before because it was closed. EDIT: Also a curious note: the gates to the roller coasters at Dorney. I have never been to park with these weird magnet gates and felt kinda dumb my first ride of the day when my gate didn't open and I just stood there. Any idea why dorney chooses these gates over the automatic air gates?
Ccron10 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I don't know, but the can be a pain to open sometimes. I went to the park today and had an okay visit. It could have been much better though.
tatertot3710 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 ^^ I have no idea, and it annoys me to no end, sometimes the person in front of you doesn't realize they're magnetic and then the gates lock and you have to wait an extra train. It must be an extra hassle for the workers too, since they have to close and check every gate to make sure that it's locked and they usually have to yell over the speakers that everyone needs to push on their gates. Maybe they're there because people were doing stupid things before they were there (I don't know what they had beforehand, it was too long ago to remember), and management just decided to replace all of the gates with magnetic gates.
thrillrider Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 You mean these gates.... I thought they were weird as well.
adavis Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Lol^^^ I felt like I was in another world, when I was at Indiana beach. This is why I'm just going to skip that park.
YoshiFan Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I think they switched to the magnetic gates because of problems with people pushing on air gates shutting the ride down temporarily if they are pushed too far. I don't know, but the can be a pain to open sometimes.I went to the park today and had an okay visit. It could have been much better though. How were crowds? I figured it would be empty since it was supposed to thunderstorm.
Hercules Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 the types of people that go there take a lot of the charm away from the park. I feel really old saying this, but I think you are just too young to know. I think they switched to the magnetic gates because of problems with people pushing on air gates shutting the ride down temporarily if they are pushed too far. You are correct, that played a hand in the new gates.

I figured it would be empty since it was supposed to thunderstorm. The park wasn't too bad all day, but the waterpark was packed. My girlfriend and I stayed there from it's opening until 3pm and did the wave pool a few times, both lazy rivers, Riptide Run (had no wait) and the playstructure. I ended up doing Cascade and it had a half hour wait (it was the only slide I ended up going on) and the others had a line 3/4 of the way up the slide towers. We also rode Wild Mouse which had a 1/2 hour wait and a couple of line jumpers. I tried to block their way through the queue and tell them it was again the park rules, but they just pushed their way through and didn't understand English (literally). There was a person or two doing this at White Water Landing and luckly two ride ops caught them as they were entering the ride to start their shift, but after a minute of talking to them, they just had him stand near the entrance to the station off to the side. Talon, Hydra, Thunderhawk, Posessed, Steel Force all had a 1 to 2 train wait and the flats were all 1 cycle waits or a walk-on. The operations varried from place to place. The Gameday Grill was great, but we stopped at Clucks and Franks to get more soda and the girl in front of me was waiting 5 to 10 minutes for someone to take her order. We also saw Snoopy Rocks on Ice. We saw that the front row was empty so we went there, but it ended up being a "splash zone" but it was a good show. In short, I've got all the credits (except for the kiddie coasters) and don't have to go back here for awhile (which is probably when they would get a new coaster). While the waterpark was good, it's not something that would make me return. I'd rather spend the extra bucks and go to Hershey which hardly has any linejumpers whenever I go there and is a higher quality of a park than Dorney IMO.
RomanHORSEman Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 When I went when I first got there the park was SWARMED with camp kids. I was afraid I was going to be waiting in line all day after a day of hardly any long lines at Hershey. But yeah the magnetic gates were extremely confusing I remember times when my Dad would yell at me to go when I was just waiting for the gates to open But why would they go magnetic gates because of people pushing on the air gates? Did people just go to Dorney and do that a lot in one year and it annoyed the heck out of management? Also funny thing I should mention I went to CP in 2005 and didn't ride Demon Drop because it broke down. I was going to ride it this year and me and my Dad got in the seats and pulled our harnesses down and then the ride op said Demon Drop will be temporarily closed due to maintenance. Well at least I got to sit in the seats. Also the employees seemed to show a disliking for the ride I was telling my Dad how it was literally the same thing that was at Cedar Point five years ago and mentioned how CP didn't want it anymore so they dumped it here and one of the employees was listening to me said YUP EXACTLY! Also they were acting very sarcastic on the mic about the ride breaking down. I hope they remove it soon Dorney didn't need this ride at all they should of dumped it at MiA instead.
thrillrider Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 They just got the ride this year. I don't think it's going away anytime soon. Give the ride time to settle in. It was just torn down, referbed, and set back up. There are bound to be a few bugs. As far as line jumping goes, I have yet to go to a park where there has not been any line jumping.

It rides like you are going down a hill in a recycling bin. It closed for a few minutes while I was there. It bangs around a lot and it was a really poor decision for the park to add it. I don't think any other park deserves it either.
RomanHORSEman Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I've never actually noticed anybody line jumping on my many amusement park trips. I dare somebody to do it in front of me I'll tell them to go straight to the end of the line I don't care if it makes a scene people have no right to cut.
tatertot3710 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I feel really old saying this, but I think you are just too young to know. Oops, the statement I made was kind of misworded...I meant it takes away from the feeling I usually have when I'm at an amusmement park. I just think that the types of people that go to the park make the park less-than-desirable to visit...That's why I like going on slower days in May and September, where you don't get line jumped at almost every ride, you don't see rude people arguing about or ignoring the rules, and the atmosphere is much more family friendly. I like the park, and I think the rides are awesome, but it's hard to have a good time at the park. I notice that too...but they show even more of a dislike for the safety instructions that play loudly in a constant loop.
thrillrider Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 How do you think the workers on dragster feel when they have to listen to the same song blasting in there ear all day?
