In the past, this board has always helped me out when I was planning a trip in the USA.

Here's another question that I hope someone can answer for me. I need some driving time estimates for some drives on the east coast in July. I know I can find indications on Google maps, but I'm not too sure if the traffic will be bad or not. All our hotels are outside of the city center, so you shouldn't calculate 'city traffic'

1) New York City - Boston: Monday, departure around 5PM. Leaving from Newark airport to our hotel Red Roof Inn Woburn, Boston

2) Boston - Six Flags New England: Wednesday, departure around 7/8 AM.

3) Six Flags New England - Philadelphia: Wednesday, departure around 4 PM. Hotel Philadelphia Days Inn Horsham

4) Philadelphia - Six Flags Great Adventure: Thursday, departure around 10 AM.

5) Philadelphia - Washington DC: Saturday, departure around 6 PM. Hotel Best Western Springfield

6) Washington DC - Newark Airport: Thursday, we have to arrive at Newark Airport at 4.30 PM.

Thanks in advance!

Let us know where to hotels are.

For example, if you are east or west of NYC when you start your drive can vary your drive time by 2 hours.

Also, where in Philadelphia? That also can be a bit of a time difference to get to I-95 depending on where you are. I just drove from NY to VA. That trip takes me exactly 6 hours. From NY (not through the city but from the Brooklyn side) to Philadelphia is about 1.5 - 2.5 hours (to exit 4 on I-95). NY to DC approx 4-5 hours. Philadelphia to Six Flags Great Adventure may be about an hour or so. Hope all of that helps somewhat.

Although mapping systems might say 4.5 hours from Newark to Woburn, it could be closer to 6.5 hours at that time of day with the routes they suggest..

Do not follow any directions that take you through Manhattan (I-95 over the George Washington Bridge) are through White Plains (I-287 over the Tappan Zee Bridge). Those bridges can add up to 2 hours to your trip due to rush hour traffic.

The better option will be 30 miles longer but should get you to Woburn in 5 - 5.5 hours. This route involves going north on the Garden State Parkway, which turns into the New York State Thruway and continue going north, then go East on I-84, Then I-90 East towards Boston, then you are safe following any route that is provided to get you to the hotel in Woburn

I did my own little Northeast trip this past weekend. My trip had a much different layout than yours but I think I can offer some insight.

I started in Boston on a Saturday and headed out to SFNE around 7a. It took about an hour and a half to make the drive (bing maps listed it at 1.75 hrs). I had no traffic, but I imagine the main headache would be getting outta Boston. Since you are leaving on a weekday morning, I think you should be ok since most folks would be heading IN versus OUT of the city. If you get to the area early, I suggest stopping in Springfield or continuing down into Connecticut for breakfast. There is a lot of stuff down around the Enfield Square mall (about 10 min from the park).

My last day had me driving back up to Boston from Newark on Tuesday (bing listed it at 3.75 hours). In order to make my flight I left early which meant leaving during rush hour. Ultimately, that drive took about 6 hours (it was over 90 min to get across the George Washington Bridge). If you are staying in NYC, your travel time will likely be less as you wouldn't have to deal with the river crossing (and $8 toll ) 5p is still rush hour though and it seems lots of people who work in the city live in CT.

For reference my trip went Boston to SFNE to Dorney Park to SFGAdv to Newark to Boston.

Hope that helps.
