FeelTheFORCE Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Turbo is an Intamin launched coaster. This is my first completed Newton2 coaster. I made it fairly simple because of that reason. I plan on working my way up to more difficult designs and layouts. I used some custom supports, but mostly all the default supports because they look ok, and also I just wanted to get this released ASAP. This a fairly intense coaster that has quick transitions just like those found on some modern Intamin coasters such as I305 and Maverick. Enjoy, and please comment! Statistics: Height - 216 Feet Length - 3680 Feet Top Speed - 71 MPH Turbo1.nltrack
davisal771 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I think its great. I'm just getting started with newton2 myself. I don't know if my first is going to be as good as this. Seemed smooth and realistic and felt like an Intamin. Good job!
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 17, 2010 Author Posted June 17, 2010 Thanks! I did a lot of playing around before I actually built a full coaster. I have a lot of unfinished coasters and random elements saved. I posted a reply in your Dragon Fyre thread regarding Newton2. Another thing I'd suggest is doing the same as I did, start out easy and build a simple coaster.
AJClarke0912 Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Going to have to check it when I get back to Kentucky (I'm in Florida now) but by the looks of it I can tell slight "newb-ness" in it, but it looks more solid than other new-Newton users. One thing I can tell from the pictures is that your switches between banked turns have no positive force change...probably all 4G's. To get Intamin pop or flow, try a Sextic 1G, 0.5G, 0G, or even -0.5G and -1G (latter for more airtime switches) and you'll have a more realistic and interesting track minus the "sway" feel that shouldn't be so prominent. Of course, I'm just judging on pictures so maybe you did those things...can't wait to see how you did when I get back...
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 20, 2010 Author Posted June 20, 2010 Actually, that's one of the exact problems I had. I know exactly what you mean, and it does indeed 'sway' a lot. I had no idea how to fix that, but now I do, thanks! I'll definitely remember that for my next one!
AJClarke0912 Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Many things...but not bad for your first Newton. Firstly, the swaying...but that was already discussed. Secondly, I think your heartline was off...make sure you set it to 0.9 (global settings) for Intamin hypers. All heartline readings can be found in the Conversion Panel. BE SURE TO PUT THE RIGHT ONE IN BEFORE BUILDING OR YOUR TRACK MIGHT AS WELL BE TRASHED. Thirdly, I think the "mini-MCBR" threw off your latter layout. This is because after the straight geometry section (in Newton) you left the "manual" speed on [10 m/s], which is about 22mph. Make sure if the segment is going slow the train be sure to record your train's MIDDLE CAR speed right at that spot and plug it into Newton. You'll notice that your old track is just not compatible...and you saw likewise in the simulator. Finally, I think you tried to achieve track shape versus forces. In other words, you put in some wonky forces to get the track to go in the direction you wanted. Don't put in TOO many force changes (especially positive), because that just turns out pumpy. If there is any "gap" in your understanding of the above please reply! Overall, not too shabby for a firstie!
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 Thirdly, I think the "mini-MCBR" threw off your latter layout. This is because after the straight geometry section (in Newton) you left the "manual" speed on [10 m/s], which is about 22mph. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I had a completely different (and much better, in my opinion) second half of the ride, but I could not get it to pass the E-stop test for the life of me, so I quickly created that MCBR and an ending. I probably should have spent more time on them than I did. Regarding the heartline, I will definitely remember to do that next time. I was just working with mostly all default settings and didn't even think to change that, thanks. About track shape versus forces, again I know exactly what you mean, and you are exactly right. I did change forces around to achieve a certain direction. Again, thanks for the tips, I appreciate such an in-depth response. The past two years or so I had all but completely lost interest in NL, but Newton2 has re-ignited that interest, and I hope to constantly improve on my coaster-making.
