Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) I could go on all day about the things most people would probably think about doing when they visit Seattle. But here's one thing they might not think about doing; something that only occurs during the summer, something that's very..... tasty: the Bite of Seattle. For a long time, it's remained one of the largest 'showcasing' events in the state. Reminiscent to the classic street fair, the Bite Seattle offers guests a chance to sample food, trinkets, business offers, and other things while walking peacefully down the street. Since Seattle is a pretty darn big city, however, it would be incredibly inconvenient to hold a 'street fair' in the streets, especially one of this magnitude. Instead, it is held in Seattle Center, Seattle's equivalent to Central Park or Lincoln Park. Among the well-know attractions to visit in Seattle Center are the Space Needle, the Seattle Science Center, and the Fountain. One lesser known attraction (that is probably only known on this website) is Fun Forest, a small amusement park located in the Center. It contains a few small flat rides, a roller coaster called Windstorm (just like Hurricane at the Santa Cruz boardwalk), and a log flume, among other small rides. Seattle decided last year to get rid of Fun Forest because it wanted to add a different kind of attraction to the area. However, it didn't leave (in fact, it's still there right now, though not really open) before I got a chance to check it out one last time during the 2009 Bite of Seattle last July. This would be a good picture of Mt. Raineer.... if only it didn't have the date stamp on it. Same here... The only thing people not from Washington seem to know about or recognize in Seattle. Would Elissa also like this zoo? We see you hiding, Space Needle! Getting ready to walk under the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Building, steel, streetlight, and cars. Sculpturing. Balls of steel? No, balls of concrete! It was incredibly crowded today! My mom's favorite. She gets it whenever we're at a fair or theme park. Can you tell she's an Iowan? The Science Center Arches 'through the trees'. The Needle again. It was, and always has been, very photogenic. California Pizza Kitchen had a booth at the Bite this year, unlike year's past. Based on this pizza, I wish there were a few more CPK restaurants around here. Jones Soda, an unusual Seattle company that produces all kinds of flavors of soft drinks. Most are pretty unusual, but they do have the necessary 'Cola' flavor for people like me. They also had this stuff, which I don't really remember very well.... They had a lot of concerts placed throughout the Bite. The Fountain, very busy today since it was not only the Bite but also very warm. Panda Express also had a booth this year. POUND IT, Panda Express Bear! I'd also pound the guys with the awesome 'Go Orange!' T-shirts, but they're too busy preparing awesome food. It can't be.... Huckleberry Popcorn? At first we were hesitant, but we tried it, and we loved it! I'd totally recommend it to someone who wants to try something different. For TPR's Australian friends. Want to keep your chair from being too hot when you sit in it for a long time, and need a little back support? This thing'll help you. Dingleberry? See, this place IS full of things you've never heard of before. "I see a lot of green here, and I even see some green hair!" "Intiman? Intamin? Close enough." The common 'violin player trying to earn money for more lessons', today in duet form. "Does this dress make my head look small?" Yes, they even have colorful stuffed gorillas and snakes! NOTED! I did this at the Puyallup Fair last year, it's pretty interesting. Certainly works, my body felt cleansed after it. My dad really liked the Beef & Chees Piroshky served here. Mmmm..... Russian. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dippin' Dots..... = Epic Win!! Is that a Ferris Wheel? "Why yes, I do believe it is!" Part 2 to come..... well, immediatly! Thanks for reading! Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Part 2 'Member that one time when 'Frankfurter' joined the name of the 'Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys' forum for a while? Walking past all kinds of vendor stands, you abruptly run into these kiddie rides..... ...that are right the heck at the feet of the Space Needle! (you get this view if you look up from around the kiddie rides) How many Jeff Johnson Credits can you spot here? Heck, even Key Area may count as one because of the Zamboni used to clean it when it's ice! The Dodgems. Century Wheel.... I've always wondered what this little deck is for..... After passing through the kiddie credits, you reach this place. (I swore that there used to be a Turbo Force here a few years ago) Windstorm is pretty much a dirtier, older version of Hurricane at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Are these coasters just popular on the West Coast? Wild River, the Log Flume ride. SKLOOOSH!! (as Robb would say) For you lift-motor enthusiasts out there. Little flat stretch of track. High-speed bend. Do I see somebody trying to take a POV? This par's intense.... Another POV taker! Come give me the camera so I can take some close up pictu...... No, don't take a picture of me! I'll look like an idiot! Indeed, I do actually approve..... but now I'll have to go to California in order to ride it again! NOTED! They did put quite a few supports on this ride. Curvature..... Somewhat sexy curvature.... Z00M! We see you, Blue train! Why aren't you running today? More lifty stuff. Rules. More rules + ...... Ummm..... Foot? Looking up the Red train's skirt. It's getting ready to get to the part with the 'near inversion'. NOTED! Obligatory Reality Check. In this TR, it's the Space Needle (once again). This looks like the same kind of wheel that was on an old Mazda RX-7. Lift-hill-shot. Bolt Ultra-Close-Up! Lift-hill-shot + Train Gee, that chick has it easy! 2 buttons! Force-absorbing bumper. Couplings shot. "The credit that goes 50 mph, even though it's about as big as me!" Galleon, a Pirate Ship that actually has a bit of good airtime in the very back. Musik Express, playing everything from prehistoric times to today's hottest hits! Well, now that we're out of creditland..... ....I guess we're done. So, until next time, look for random pigeons on the streets of Seattle! Thank's for reading! Edited May 1, 2010 by Six Flags Enthuseast
gisco Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Wow, way to many pictures. Thanks for the report but you would have a much better trip report if you cut about 2/3 of them out. Most people are going to skim over this because it takes to much time to load, to much time to read all the captions and your not able to hold their interest. Next time pick your best 20 shots and go with that.
carolinacaniac Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I enjoyed the look at the festival! I kind of wish I had been in Seattle a little later, since that took place about a week or so after I was there last summer. Thanks for sharing it! -Gary T.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 ^^I just got rid of a few, I hope it looks better. ^The Bite is definitely an event that's worth visiting. Next time you're in around the time of the event, you should stop by and check it out, even though Fun Forest won't be there anymore.
Electerik Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 This would be a good picture of Mt. Raineer.... if only it didn't have the date stamp on it. Ta-da! Cropping is a wonderful thing. :O) Thanks for the TR.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 ^Wow, that looks MUCH better. I don't have cropping skills like that, just BatchPhoto.
