sugart Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I need a vacation bad. My birthday is Oct 24 and the Eagles happen to play the Redskins on Monday night the 26th. Since its easier to get tickets to away, than in Philly, I told my wife thats what I want to do. Heres is why I come to TPR. I've only been to DC once and only saw Arlington National cemetery. I would like to see more, but should I just go the touristy route or is there something I shouldn't miss? My original plan was to drive down from south jersey to DC on saturday Oct 24 and spend time in the city 24, 25, 26, and leave tuesday morning. Now I got to thinking Williamsburg isn't too far away, about 150miles. I could easily drive there for a day, prob sunday. So it would be Oct 24- Arrive/DC Oct 25- BGE Oct 26- DC/Game @8pm Oct 27- Leave. Now should I base my operations in DC and drive to BGE and use the metro or should I stay outside the city and drive there daily. Also does anyone have suggestions on hotels, restaurants, attractions, and tips for the metro? Thanks
cfc Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 The DC Metro is pretty easy to use. I would stay somewhere in the Arlington/Alexandria area and use the Metro to get around DC. Howl-o-Scream will be going on at BGE. So, it might not be a bad idea to stay in Williamsburg that night, then return for the game the next day (after the morning rush hour is over, of course). That way, you won't have to drive back to DC late at night or rush through the park. If you really want to spend the most of Monday seeing more of DC, you could go to Six Flags America (very close to the where the Skins play) or Kings Dominion (not as far a drive as BGE), if you want to hit a park.
STR8FXXXINEDGE Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I don't know too much about the area, but if you're not staying right in D.C., you should check this place out. Radisson Hotel Largo-Washington D.C. 9100 Basil Court, Largo, MD, 20774 Phone:(301) 773-0700 www.radisson.com/hotels/mdlargo That is where I stayed when I was in the area. I booked it through Hotwire for $62 a night. I'd say it's probably one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in too. It is right down the street from Fedex Field. It is also only about 9 miles from downtown D.C. and only 4 miles to Six Flags America. I had no problems at all driving in to downtown D.C. and back to the hotel at all either. Just a suggestion. Have fun!
kingsdominionlvr Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I would definitely think about hitting Six Flags America and Kings Dominion instead if you are staying in DC or just Six Flags America. Here are the approximate hours away from DC each park is to give you an idea. Six Flags America: 25 Minutes, 40 Minutes in Traffic taking DC-295 Kings Dominion: 1 Hour 25 Minutes, 25 more minutes in traffic taking I-95 Busch Gardens Europe: 2 hours 35 Minutes taking various roads and interstates
sugart Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 Ive actually been to all 3 parks before, BGE is really the only one I have interest in going to on this trip. Dont get me wrong I liked KD and next year is looking even better. SFA is meh, but I have Great Adventure about an hour away. The trip is more about my wife and I getting away since our second child was born.
