Koolkid Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Popped into Chessington a couple of days ago for the first time in years and was absolutely amazed. The park was spotless and I've never realised how good the theming is. It also helped that, despite being summer holidays for schools, every ride except Dragons Fury, was under 10 minute wait with Vampire being walk-on and still on 3 train operations. The weather was very inconsistent with beautiful blue skys and then a downpour. Anyway on to the pics Some of the amazing theming on Dragon Falls, the log flume. You actually go through this! A view just before the big drop on Dragon Falls. And one last look , looking back towards the last lift with the huge Buddha. An overview of the Beanoland area, does look pretty tired in places and I think it's great that it's being re-themed next year. Dragons Fury exiting its immelman turn , This ride is awesome. One of the best family coasters I've been on and in the afternoon I got one crazy ride on it, where for the first time ever a ride has made me feel dizzy! The awesome Rattlesnake. In my opinion this is the best themed ride in the UK, the que is full of animatronic amigos and exploding shacks. The whole ride you are also being thrown through huts giving great head-chopper effects. The ride is also by far the best Wild Mouse I've been on, completely unbraked until the turn before the biggest drop and even then it's only a light touch. The exploding shack in Rattlesnake's queline, note the way they spell "danjer" Vampire! This is now one of my favourite coasters, insane swinging in the front 3 cars and just a great fun ride. Half Arrow, Half Vekoma support, mmmm ,Nope this picture was me trying to show one of the heavy downpours throughout the day. Me trying a sort of background type thing with Dragons Fury, Shame it didn't work Cool fishy in the Sealife Center Ugly fishy in the Sealife Center And a final look at Vampire's drop off the 2nd lift. Overall it was a fantastic day 8x Rattlesnake 8x Vampire 4x Dragons Fury 2x Dragon falls 1x Bubbleworks And lots of other smaller ride credits Hope you enjoyed my photo's
dr.gumbo Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Nice trip report, hope you had a great time. How was the Bubbleworks? I heard its was crap after they renewed it a few years ago.
MG Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Nice report. Looks like you had a great day. Just realised how long it is since I actually went to Chessington. Seems everyone I ask say the park is deserted, hope this isn't a bad omen. Vampire still looks fantastic, soon it will be only one of five Suspended coasters still in operation.
Koolkid Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 Bubbleworks, whilst being bad, wasn't as sucky as everyone says it is, yes its a shadow of its former self but it's not absolutely terrible. And Yes, Vampire is still brilliant, its station IMO is 2nd to none and at the moment I think Chessington is really at the top of its game , everything looks relatively fresh and well maintained and so many awesome little effects are everywhere. It's a shame there's only going to be 5 left, I wish some parks would order some from Vekoma and make it into a big family coaster. There new trains for it look brilliant, and I still absolutely love the swinging idea
