At Playland on Tuesday I managed to get some pictures of the construction area that appeared at the beginning of this month. I first noticed it riding the drop tower but I couldn't take a picture of it from there as I'm not allowed to take a camera on there. So I had to take a picture from the ferris wheel instead.

The PNE is turning 100 next year and I heard that they are going to bring in some new rides. I'm hoping for a new coaster as one of them already got scapped last year.

It just looks like some sort of warehouse right now but I am pretty sure it's a spot for a new 2010 ride. The rides operations manager told me that it's just a storage area right now but I highly doubt it's "just a storage area". He also said that there will be no new rides for 2009. Just a remodelled haunted house and a remodelled video arcade.

What type of ride or coaster could perhaps fit in that spot anyways?

Location of the construction spot. on the map (red rectangle). And that is an old map, the ferris wheel has been moved from that area.

From the ground.

Metal roof (perhaps built to hide what they're building from curious onlookers like me)

I wonder what's inside...

Um, well it looks like a storage area to me. Why would they go out of their way to build a special roof to keep people from seeing a "secret project?" Plus, there is nothing else going on around the building. Definitely not a coaster.

I'm pretty sure the manager you spoke to was telling you the truth... It may very well be a storage area.

Not all parks get a major new addition during their anniversaries, so there is no guarantee that this park will follow in the trend of others that invest heavily in their 100th year addition(s).
