Canobie Coaster Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I don't really remember much from my visit to the park back in 2000 other than how awesome the Comet was, how much I loved the Rainbow (now removed ), how quirky the park was, and how horrible my wait for Nightmare was. So I have a few questions. How bad are the lines typically on a Sunday and Monday? How good is their rapids ride (I skipped it last time)? Is the Comet still a world class ride like I remember? Where should I eat? What exactly is the park's Flash Pass policy? It seems weird after reading the description on the site with the tickets. I've never seen this version before. Lastly, are there any other good parks or credit runs in the area worth hitting? I've already got plans to hit Hoffman's Playland and possibly Jeepers.
HHN916 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I was just there on Friday, July 3rd and the lines weren't bad at all. We were done with the park in a few hours. If you plan on riding the swan boats and/or the antique cars, do them first thing at opening as they take the most time to get on. Otherwise, go to Sasquatch, then Boomerang, and then Alpine Bobsled. When they open the Frontier area, head up there to beat the crowds. The Comet was a three train wait max in the afternoon so you can hit it whenever and yes it is still great. We ate at the Festhaus because it was air-conditioned. The food was decent for park food. I doubt you would even need the Flash Pass but it's your call. It's a punch card. Hoffman's Playland is five minutes off the thruway. The coaster is $1.50. They have a Subway restaurant at the park. I am a haunt fan so I'll mention that there are four haunted attractions in Lake George - Haunted Castle, Alien Encounter, Frankenstein Wax Museum and Dr.Morbid's Haunted House.
larrygator Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 If there a chance of rain ride Alpine Bobsled first, it will not operate in the rain. If you do go to Hoffman's there are plenty of fast food places right outside that park. However, the food stand at Hoffman's does make burgers fresh for you at a fair price. I highly recommend hitting Hoffman's to ride their awesome Lusse Bumper Cars.
Jcoaster Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 My advice is try and ride Comet as much as you can. It really is a amazing old wooden coaster. The airtime in the back
bspellx5 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Nohting at Great Escape ever really gets more than a 20 minute line most times, with the exception of the Alpine Bobsled. Most of their roller coasters have fairly low capacity though. It's rained here for the past few days though, so I highly doubt the Bobsled will be open. Comet is great, the red train has been having problems lately though. Sasquatch is one of the weakest S & S towers in exestince, it is very well themed though. You won't need a Flash Pass, but the way it works is, basically they are exit passes you get 5 for 10 dollars. It's not worth it at all. The Raging River isnt the greatest, you barely get water on you except for a thin waterfall towards the end that will get you somewhat wet.
