Hello, I need some help getting a project started for school. I have decided to design some interactive amusement-parks attractions, following this argument:

While Theme parks are mostly visited in families, couples, or other small groups, (and rarely alone), most current existing interactive attractions are not designed around this fact.

EG: for example. The new Toy Story Midway Mania at Disney is a four-dimensional, interactive experience, where each individual gets a canon-gun, and a score for each target hit, but the only real flow of interaction in the ride is still between a single guest propelling computer-simulated objects at a screen.

How does everyone feel about cooperative or synchronous play in interactive theme park rides? In other words, how would you feel if the "conflict" was between you and someone in your party, rather than just the attraction?

Do you see any potential benefits to a direct interactive flow between human and human rather than human and machine?

Please, anything is welcomed. comments, opinions, thoughts, ideas!

Thanks!!!

You might want to go back and edit the title, subtitle and body of your post.

I think one reason people are not responding is because it is not clear what you need and the title of your post is vague.

I think I understand what you are asking. How would/do we feel about cooperative play interactive rides?

They are a few in Europe but I prefer the individual score games.

Walibi Belgium has a shooting dark ride (Challenge of Tutenkamen) where the end of the ride is dictated by how well your vehicle shoots.

Terra Mitica also has a similar ride in Laberintho el Minitouro.

The exact spelling of these ride names might be incorrect, but the rides are listed in TPR's Park Index.

That really depends on your perspective. Being that there are very few true "interactive" attractions out there, you'd have a hard time convincing people of that.

Most of your "interactive" attractions are shooting games of some sort, such as:

Toy Story

Men In Black

Challenge of Tutenkamen

Labyrinth of the Minotaur

Many Sally dark rides

Certain "Scary" rides where scaractors are employed (esp. during halloween) Etc...

Even the "new" "Spaceship Earth" at Epcot displays these qualities.

... for example....Toy Story Midway Mania .... but the only real flow of interaction in the ride is still between a single guest propelling computer-simulated objects at a screen.

While in application that may be true, the fact remains that you've forgotten about the interactive connection between the players who compete with each other for a score.

Other attractions include things like stuff you'd find at Disneyquest or the "Animation" building at DCA. Whether it's "Which Disney character are you most like" or "Design and ride your own coaster" (NEVER AGAIN! I swear!), the interactiveness wears off quickly. Unfortunately, if you've done them, you've DONE them. You really have no reason to go back (at least I don't), as the entertainment value is quite low.

People go to these places to be entertained. While in fact, people entertaining themselves can be accomplished almost anywhere. (See the Opening day at SFOG PTR).

IMO, you've picked a tough subject.
