Sean Menefee Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Why not just charge $10 bucks for the card and a year subscription, instead of bundling it with a TPR store credit? I guess that could be an option as an upgrade, but I would be more interested in just a flat membership fee & card personally.
Emiroo Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 ^^ My guess is that TPR would still stay free. But by paying for the "membership" (which would be 100% optional) it would qualify cardholders to receive discounts and attend special events that parks hold for "card carrying coaster club members" only. My suggestion is to give out the card free with every TPR store purchase. So you've satisfied the condition that the membership is "paid" for, but not changed the site's pricing model. But seriously, can you really tell me that the content TPR provides isn't worth $25 a year? ($10 with the $15 store credit)...
Hercules Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 My idea is to base the membership not on money, but on usership. I think that a memebership should become vaild on some of the following conditions: - over 1,000 posts - been a memeber for 2+ years - has never been banned - if not over 1,000 posts, has posted at least 10 trip reports You get the idea. Not necessarily a paid memebership, but to show parks and events that people can't just sign up one day and end up getting into Holiwood Nights the next.
Teacups Make Me Sick Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I think that your plan is fair and very generous. You can easily say...that if you want a membership card which will allow you park discounts will cost you 25 bucks (which is more then reasonable)...but you are adding on that we can get a store credit. I think most people will see that you are not out to make a buck of your members.

This is exactly right. But seriously, can you really tell me that the content TPR provides isn't worth $25 a year? ($10 with the $15 store credit)... Thank you! I feel we offer more content for "free" and without ANY ads at all than any other site out there. And that will not change. It's clear that I need to think about this more, so for right now I'm going to close this thread and when we are ready to announce how we will create a "membership" I'll open a new thread. --Robb
