coasterdude5 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I recently got back from New Orleans filming for my upcoming tribute documentary about Hurricane Katrina. (http://www.katrina.coaster101.com) On the way back we stopped in my old "home away from home" town Hattiesburg, Mississippi to see some old friends. Shameless plug... They got some crazy ladies in this rest stop. What was left of Hurricane Dollywood was raining over the city. We aint got none of these in Tennessee! Once we got to the riverwalk you could really smell the oil spill and see it! You can see it blotched up. The smell really got to you after a few minutes. They're using these mops to mop up as much of it as they can. Simple concept, really. Next time you're in the city, go up into the Westin, you'll get a great view out of those three big windows. - - - Hattiesburg, Mississippi My grandparents use to live here so when I was a little kid this was like a second home to me. I would come for weeks and stay. Unfortunately, it's not the same place I once knew. It's grown at such a fast rate (helped by thousands of evacuees from New Orleans) parts of it are now unrecognizable. But there are still parts that are the same, that I can travel down memory lane on. That's always nice. We went to check out their newly-remodeled train station. Funny story: I went in a side door because I saw restrooms inside. I went the other way and went down a hallway. I passed a sign that said "employees only" I crossed a desk (nobody was there) and found myself locked in the lobby. But with my quick thinking I unlocked the door and was able to escape. It was a riveting experience. Right. Holy crap I hope it doesn't eat me! Way to let this history rot away... Out in the woods... Thanks for reading. I hope this was random enough for everybody.
DarkStitch626 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Ugghh. I am a railroad fanatic, and seeing that one picture made me wince. I believe in museum preservation.
