panda367 Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Darien Lake is about an hour away from my house, but I haven't been there since 8th grade. When I found out that my senior class was going there for a trip, though, I jumped at the chance. At the beginning of the day, it was slightly drizzling, but not very cold. We obviously went on Motocoaster first, which was awesome. Then some of us did the Bumper Cars and the Viper, and then we went to lunch, which was in one of the pavilions because it was a school trip. I found it funny that on the lunch menu, they called ice cream bars "frozen novelties". After lunch, my friends rode the Ferris Wheel, but I can't stand them so I watched. After that, the rain completely cleared and it got a lot sunnier out, so we did most of the water rides (Grizzly Bear Run, Shipwreck Falls, and some of the tube slides.) The Superman (well, "Ride of Steel" now, but everyone still calls it the Superman) wasn't running at the beginning of the day because of the rain and even after that kept on getting stuck (usually as the riders were getting up the first hill), so we were a bit reluctant to ride it, but we finally did and it was awesome. Then, after doing Predator (I don't know why I keep on going on that ride, it's so bumpy. It doesn't even merit a picture) Boomerang, Motocoaster again, the Mind Eraser, and some more flats, we left for home. Overall, it was a great trip! Because of the rain, I didn't take too many pictures, but I did take some. The Slingshot at night, all lit up. I didn't go on it, but I think it looked cool at night. Mind Eraser! What a twisted layout. Motocoaster again, the second time we rode it. The line was incredibly long both times. Boomerang! By this time, the rain had cleared up. Viper! Sorry, this one's a bit blurry. People riding the Motocoaster! The motocoaster, again. MOTOCOASTER! That was such a great ride. The Ride Formerly Known as Superman, from the windows of the bus.
jujubee1985 Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I love your last picture of the bungee jump, the colors are gorgeous!

the ghost Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 ^Welcome to TPR Darien Lake looks okay, but never a park I would go out of my way to visit. The only ride they have hat I really want to ride is Superman, but I would rather ride it at SFNE with the better layout and updated effects.
darienlakerules Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 This park is a great park! Viper is a classic ride! It also has a nice short line. I ride it at least 10 times when I vist. The tunnel is epic on it.
PhantomNick Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Sadly, all that Darien Lake really has going for it (from a coaster standpoint anyway) is Ride of Steel. That coaster is excellent, but the collection as a whole is weak. Granted, the last time I was there their Motocoaster was not installed yet, but that strikes me as a fun, but rather forgettable family coaster. The boomerang is just a boomerang, there's an SLC, and there's the most disgraceful pile of wooden trash I've ever ridden in Predator. Viper's decent enough, but it was showing its age when I went there last. It's a great park for the locals, I'm sure, but for someone like me who lives over 5 hours from the park, I can think of about a couple dozen other parks I'd like to visit before that one.

Viper does show it's age, last visit it was closed half the day. Ride of steel does rule, and yes the slc and boomerang are just that. A slc and a boomerang, but they both are awesome because of the water effects. It really as far as coasters go not that great, but the park has a nice old-time feel to the park. I really like it and think it is getting better every year[now that six flags isn't wrecking the park anymore]
