IggyACE Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Day 1 1/2.... What a crazy ass weekend this was for me, Gage and Caitlyn. I hadn't planned on going or taking Friday off work but it worked out that I moved my job for Friday to Tuesday. So off towards NY on Thursday after the kids got out of school. My first plan was to stop at Waldameer on Friday but Lisa convinced me to stop on Monday as they would be there then. Thursday at 4 pm I left Munster, Indiana and drove east on I-90 till 2:30 am. I couldn't take it anymore so I pulled over in a rest stop and slept for three whole hours. Got back on the road (lucky kids still got to sleep) and at 9 am we arrived here… It had a very nice feel to this park. Very old school with all the themeing. Very nice ride in the Comet… Only one bad spot on the way back that bounced but some very nice pacing to this ride and some very nice history about it also. TGE was a park that I would say is perfect for families with preteen kids. A nicely themed Mine train, but very boring! We also stuck around as the Big Mike Road Show (TPR member) was going to be there. We laughed at him trying to con a kid to ride the Road Runner Express, he did get the credit as we did this earlier but no one saw us. We left The Great Escape around 4 and headed here, as it was open… What a cute little park and a painful coaster.. They have some fantastic bumper cars!!!!!!!!!! After Gage used the last ticket for a solo train ride… we headed out and stopped here… and Caitlyn got this…. And I leave you with this. Never ever mess with your kids by the pool…. It will leave a mark!!!!!!
shesaidboom Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did messing by the pool result in that?!?!?!
bspellx5 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Great Photos! Great Escapes my home park, and I agree with you about it being good for preteens. But they have a serious need for flat rides, with the Condor always being down and after taking out the Rainbow. The front of the park just isnt the same without it, and not hearing people say "OMG its going to hit that building!!" while at the gates is kinda depressing.
raptor6 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 At first, I thought that the huge bump on your leg was your knee! What in the world happened to you? Did your get kicked in the leg or what? Did you use photoshop?
IggyACE Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 What the hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did messing by the pool result in that?!?!?! I was in the hot tub that is connected to the pool and my daughter was laying on the ledge between the two. I lunged across the hot tub to push her in the pool and hit the tiled cement seat you sit on! Craig
IggyACE Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Day 2.. So after passing out at 8:45 and not hearing the phone ring at 12:30 and 1:15 from so called friends at HWN, we woke at 6:30 to start our day and our 4 hour trek north into…. Almost wasn’t let in to Canada due to fact I didn’t have a signed note stating I could take the kids out of the country from my wife. I guess passports are just not good enough yet. So after a lenghtly delay to get across the boarder. We found our way to….. First ride of the day and we rode with our lap bar not locked. Turns out when the op went to check it, Gage was behind us was leaning on the bar and the op thought it was locked! Oops…. Good thing it was only a kiddie coaster… Goliath is by far my favorite B&M. This ride really is great and delivers some good air. For a Batman clone this was running very well……. La Ronde is set in a very nice location being on an island in the river. Very unique and also has a lake in the middle of it…. My only real complaint about La Ronde is it is not up kept well. Weeds were taller then the plants they just planted. Grass not really cut yet. And this was everywhere……. La Ronde has a nice collection of rides but the park itself is not well maintained. Also they have some very interesting mascots that roam the park. Don’t ever have kids……. Coming back across the border was another fun experience. My driver side window doesn’t come down and the border patrol got out to check the door to see if anything was lose. I don’t believe he believed me when I said we went to La Ronde. He couldn’t understand why someone from Indiana was up here to go there!
larrygator Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I love that the border patrol gives everyone who travels to amusement parks a hard time. I got strange looks going to LaRonde last weekend even after saying I only drove 3 hours from Albany and not 7 hours from my home. I also told them I was going to the Casino de Montreal, which ended up being the truth in the end. These border people just find it hard to believe that coaster enthusiasts exist.
