Sticky Nicky Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Frontier City getting Vekoma family suspended coaster in 2008 (APR 4, 2008) Officials at Frontier City, Oklahoma City, Okla., announced on Apr. 4 that the park will debut the state's first suspended roller coaster – Steel Lasso - for the 2008 season. Designed by Vekoma and fabricated in the U.S. by Chance Morgan, the custom-built ride will stand 49-feet-tall, feature 965 feet of twisted track and reach an estimated top speed of 30 m.p.h. Like Kvasten, the family suspended coaster that premiered at Sweden's Gröna Lund last season, Frontier City's Steel Lasso will utilize Vekoma's new train system, which allows riders legs to dangle freely and requires no over-the-shoulder restraints. "It's being custom-made for our park and our guests, which is a really exciting thing,” said Stephen Ball, Frontier City general manager. This is The first ride — especially a ride of this magnitude and size — that is actually being built and designed for Frontier City.” The new coaster be erected over the next two months and should be open to the public by early Summer. www.amusementtoday.com www.newsplusnotes.com
Loefet Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Designed by Vekoma and fabricated in the U.S. by Chance Morgan, the custom-built ride will stand 49-feet-tall, feature 965 feet of twisted track and reach an estimated top speed of 30 m.p.h. Custom, ha. That version is the standard SFC from Vekoma, exactly the same as the one at Movie Park Germany. Jimmi Neutron's Atomic Flyer But the trains are pretty sweet though, to bad that they don't swing as much.
gldude Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Finally this park gets a new ride, it been 17 years since Frontier City got a new major coaster. Its really sad that Six Flags Headquaters used to be right next to the park and kind of forgot about it. PARC Management did more with the park in two years than Six Flags did in 27.
Shavethewhales Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 ^That's putting it lightly. Before the PARC buy-out, the park was on the verge of collapse, and the big SF execs were RIGHT THERE. Insane... Anyway, this is only a small taste of what we've been and will be enjoying at FC lately. PARC has been fixing things all around the park, adding new shows, painting all the rides, fixing the buildings, lowering prices, offering new food options, and so on. We're all hoping they'll throw us a massive new star attraction soon to really get the park off on a completely new foot, but for now I'm pretty satisfied. The way I see it, this new coaster will allow them to get rid of the rather droll Wildcat to make room for something much better.
