kraken613 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 ^ I know its a mack dont know what one though. I think its more of the tow ride than anything. My trip has gotten extended! Im going Wensday afternoon, all Thursday, and maybe part of Friday! I cant wait!
Vondroff Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Hm, looks good. I'm going friday for my first time. I hope its fun, and mm better be open. Its probably the main reason im going. I think ill call them up or email them asking about this issue, and see how its going. It always seems rides are always not working opening day
Big Mike Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I will be there this Friday also, my first time too. For the people familiair with the park, will it be crowded this friday? Can I get the whole park done in 6 hours? Does the fast pass really only cost $10 and should I get one? Thanks for the help. Peace, Big Mike
kraken613 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I guess you could do it in six it will be eisier since its a loop now. Yes the Q-bot is only $10 bucks ive never used it though. Im not sure how the crowds will be. I dont think they will be that bad though. Have fun maybe ill see you if im there Friday im not sure if I will though.
ernierocker Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 ^^If you can get to the park at or before opening, you can probably get on Thunderhead and Mystery Mine without much wait (no matter what the crowds are). Now, that they have the loop completed you could then ride Splash Battle and head to Tennessee Tornado. Head back down Craftsman Valley and ride Blazing Fury and you will have knocked out all the roller coasters (besides the kiddie one) before the crowds has gotten back there. At that point, I would gauge the crowds to see if you want to get a Q-bot. With the loop in place, the Q-bot will be a lot more efficient to use as you will no longer have two long dead-ends where most of the rides on the system are at. Really, if you think about it, for 10 bucks its almost worth just getting unless the park is absolutely empty. Local schools will be in session Friday, because spring break was last week. You will mainly have out-of-towners on spring break to deal with. Edit: You could easily do the park in 6 hours.
kraken613 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 ^ So the local schools will be in on Wensday and Thursday too? I love having spring break this week then! I hope its not bad when I there too! Thanks for telling me that.
ernierocker Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 ^I just checked to make sure. Sevier County is having spring break this week Mar. 24-28. The county includes Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville. Knox County had spring break last week and Blount County doesn't have spring break until April. Most of your population is in Knox and Blount County so that should be good for crowds. Just to give you an idea, I went on a Friday in April last year during a promotion where all Sevier County citizens got in free. There wasn't much of a crowd difference.
Big Mike Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Thanks for the help! We won't make opening as I am flying in that day into Atlanta, then driving over. I expect to get there at 1pm hopefully. I agree, for $10 I am getting that for sure no matter what the crowds are. Peace, Big Mike
Vondroff Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Its good to hear its open. I called anyway . Hm alot of people are going next week. Im going there early friday, and all day. Forecast is said to be 74. That means water rides. From experience, can anyone tell me what going down a straight down drop is? lol getting a tad scared of this mystery mine from what ive heard.
kraken613 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 ^ Its not that bad its just feels like you are floating. It may get you the first few times but you get used to it. Its alot of fun though. You want to sit in the front for the view or the back for the crazy ejector off the tresle.
BrockB Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 coasterfreaky, can you make the first picture of Tennessee Tornado (the one where the train is going through the loop) big enough to fit a 21 inch monitor? I'd like to set it as my background. Thanks!
kraken613 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Well im heading out there tomorrow! Anylast minute picture requests? Ill check this tomorrow im leaving around noon.
coasterdude5 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Yeah, Blazing Fury with the lights on! Haha, I've always wanted to see it... Hope it's a good trip.
Big Mike Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 If you have time, how about the picture of the building you get your season pass processed at and maybe a picture of the place where you buy your fast pass. Maybe knowing what they look like will save me some time on my trip. Thanks Dude, Big Mike
Vondroff Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Lol i cant wait till friday. I have to drive all the way from jacksonville florida though
kraken613 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Thunderhead if you hit it on a good day (whick is most the time) its the greatest!
coasterfreaky Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 BrockB - Yes, I can PM you a picture later tonight. They're on my home computer and I'm at work all day. Hey Big Mike, What route are you taking from Atlanta?? I ask b/c there is construction on I-40 through Knoxville. It's avoidable if you exit at #81 off I-75N in/near Lenoir City, then take 321 all the way to Pigeon Forge. That should help you get there quicker. I Google-mapped the route from Atlanta and sure enough it recommends I-40, but I recommend 321 to shave off some time. BTW, when you get off the parking lot tram, the season pass building will be on your left as you walk towards the gate. I hope you get to enjoy everything in the park. If you're a Dolly fan (and who isn't??), be sure to check out her museum - Chasing Rainbows.
kraken613 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Ok everyone im about to leave for Dollywood! Hope everyone has a good day! Ill be back Thursday night so I might have my TR then or on Friday depends on how late and how tired I am! Bye!
ernierocker Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Man, I don't know if I would recommend going U.S. 321 if you have never been that way before. You have to turn on Wears Valley Rd. to cut over to Pigeon Forge, it does not go straight to Pigeon Forge. I don't think it is faster time-wise or distance-wise either, but I could be wrong. It might be a little busy heading through Knoxville at lunch time, but the construction is not that bad right now. They will not be closing the interstate until May 1st, all the construction now is off to the side of the road. Besides, you can always take I-640 to bypass downtown which is actually about the same distance as taking I-40 straight through town. Pay attention to the message board signs as you head into town and if it looks there is bad traffic, get on I-640 which will bypass downtown.
coasterfreaky Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 I'm not 100% sure either, but I would have to say that 321 would avoid almost all the traffic that will be heading to the mountains on Friday - Sevierville and Pigeon Forge traffic will def be something to deal with if you take 40. It may take an hour, hour and half just to get from the exit off 40 to get to Dollywood. 321 is well marked with signs, so if you can follow signs you shouldn't have any trouble...it's a major road - not a pig path or anything like that.
Big Mike Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Thanks very much for the advie my friends! Peace, Big Mike
ernierocker Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Thats a good point about traffic going down U.S. 66. However, at that time in the early afternoon, traffic shouldn't be backed up to downtown Sevierville yet and you can take the shortcut to Dollywood on Dolly Parton Pkwy to Middle Creek if traffic is backing up. PM me Big Mike if you want directions for the shortcut. It may actually show up on map programs now. Wears Valley Road has a few switchbacks on it which adds a lot of travel time. I'd really only recommend going this route if you are looking for a casual scenic route or if you were arriving at Pigeon Forge in the late afternoon/evening time of a holiday weekend. Traffic would definitely be a nightmare then on U.S. 66.
ETapley0687 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Ok everyone im about to leave for Dollywood! Hope everyone has a good day! Ill be back Thursday night so I might have my TR then or on Friday depends on how late and how tired I am! Bye! Hope you have fun and be safe. Looking forward to your TR.
Big Mike Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Thanks for offering a short cut. I am interested. Thanks for the help. Peace, Big Mike
