Atlantis - Resort

Well, Febuary 21-26th, I am heading down the resort, Atlantis in the Bahamas. I just have some questions that I would love to have awnswered before I go:

1) Tell me everything possibly about the slides there as there was not very much info about them on the resort's website; Do you have to pay extra for them?

2) What resteraunt do you recommend?

3) What other activites are there other than the slides/pools? Not only for me, but for my parents as well who aren't as big

4) I am staying in the Coral towers as the new building "The Reef", is very far away from the main resort building and water attrations... Can anyone tell me from experience if the Coral Towers are nice?

Well those are the main questions I have to ask, but please include any other info you can if you think it could possibly help me have a better time on my vacation. Thank you

It's been about 6 years since I was there, so my memory is a bit sketchy, but I'll try to help a bit.

1) They're all really good slides. If you're a guest, I don't believe you have to pay extra. There's the one that's most photographed (big drop through the clear tube in the shark tank). On the opposite side of that, there's a couple speed slides side by side. If I remember right, they even clock your times (?). Then there's a tube slide inside the "temple." I remember that one being really fun. You drift through the shark tank in your tube before being dumped into the exit pool.

2) From what I've heard, it's best to have the dining plan that they offer. Can't tell you much more than that, unfortunately.

3) Other activities? Everything you can think of on a tropical island. Fishing, golf, snorkeling, scuba, waverunners, a miniature golf course like Fantasia Gardens at WDW, a guided tour of Atlantis, shopping, etc. etc. And most importantly...drinking! They could also hitch a cab and go over to explore Nassau and its marketplaces.

4) When I visited, I helped deliver a private yacht. Therefore, we stayed onboard at the marina. That's also why I couldn't help you much with the restaurant question. Sorry bout that.

Overall, the place is amazing. It'll be tough to NOT have a great time.

^ Thanks a lot, even though the "drinking" part doesn't partain to me... yet... Well something I do know is that they opened recently a new slide complex named Power Tower and it consists of the master blaster slides, but one of my friends informed me on going up fom the lazy river via conveyor? Can anyone put any imput on this?

First, if you are a guest at the Atlantis then you do not need to pay extra. All you do is get a wrist band from the towel rentals and you're free to ride whatever slide you want. As for the slides themselves, there are two main areas. The one area I'm sure you are familiar with is the Mayan temple area. This area has 5 major slides around the structure (one is a double racing slide). This includes the Leap of Faith, or the waterslide that goes through the shark tank. The challenger slides, on the other side, is a pair of racing slides with two or three bumps and a landing in the pool. You can get a little airtime if you start off fast, and they record your time when you reach the bottom. Another slide, I don't know the nameof this one, you ride in an inner tube in the middle of the Mayan temple. The slide takes you through a long dark tunnel with twists and turns, and then you end up in the same shark tank as the Leap of Faith until you return outside for the splash down. The last major slide is basically a typical body slide with any twists and turns.

The other area is the Aquadventure area. Essentially this is like Schlitterbahn's transportainment and master blaster structure. The most prominent thing Aquadventure has is the Power Tower. The Power Tower has many different sldes, most of them being master blaster slides. I'm not so sure how to describe these slides other than calling them master blasters. The one slide that is not a master blaster is the Abyss. This slide is completely in the dark and catches many people off gaurd. Basically this slide is just like the Leap of Faith other than there is a bunny hill. The best surprise, however, is at the end. Also, the transportainment is very fun. Essentially, the transportainment is a way to get to the slides witout leaving the water via conveyor belts. However, there are really only two slides you can do while using the transportainment, but I recommend staying for the whole thing because you can ride the rapids which is a lot of fun.

As for the restaurants, I recommend Nobu, which is really the only name I remember. However, there is a whole area of shops and restaurants outside the hotel with places like Johnny Rockets, Starbucks, and pizza places. I recommend going to this area at night because it really looks cool.

As for other things to do, there is a whole list. You can alwyas go to the beach and do stuff there like jet skiing or just relaxing. Also, there is a casino and night club area. There is a bunch of shopping there, and not just gift shops, but also places like Gucci, Versace, and places outside in the village area if you want to shop. Also, there is a dolpfin center where you can get the opportunity to swim with dolphins, there are countless bars and restaurants, teen clubs, kid clubs, and there is an aquarium like place just down the main tower's lobby.

I'm not so sure which building you are exactly staying at. If you are staying at the Reef then it is VERY nice, that is if its anything like the Cove. When I went, the Reef wasn't opened yet, but it had the same style as the Cove. If it is similar to the Cove, then you have a large suite with two plasma screens, a small downstairs area, a walk in closet, and a nice bathroom, and a great view. If your staying in the Coral towers, then I gues it would be ok, I really don't know since I've only stayed in the Cove.

Hope this helps and enjoy your trip!

^ Thank you so much! Your imput really helped, but kinda of made me depressed seeing as we chose to stay at the Coral Tower instead of the Reef seeing as they were the same price. We were worried that the Reef was too far from the main area of the resort. You answered most of my questions and thanks again to everyone. Feel free to put anymore imput of your stay at Atlantis to help me further.

1) Tell me everything possibly about the slides there as there was not very much info about them on the resort's website; Do you have to pay extra for them?

The slides are free to resort guests. In the morning, you pick up towels from various stands spread across the resort and at the same time the person there will give you wristbands that are good for that day. They'll get you on every slide there, and they're included in the price you're paying for your hotel stay. I went there 1 1/2 years ago now, so the whole Aquaventure complex was under contruction, but the Mayan Temple complex was enough to entertain us for six days. There's four slides there, four more in Aquaventure, and a water play tower as well. And now there's that mile-long "lazy" river. There's plenty to do slide-wise.

2) What resteraunt do you recommend?

We ate at the Water's Edge buffet just about every day, with the Marketplace thrown in there a few times. We weren't too big of fine dining - vacation's more of a casual thing, anyway. Out of the buffets, Water's Edge was definately the best one I've ever been to in my life. Three different buffets for all three meals and different tacos each night (the steak ones were awesome...too bad we weren't there for two Tuesdays). We ate at Seagrapes too, but I can't find that on the website any more. It wasn't any good, anyway.

3) What other activites are there other than the slides/pools? Not only for me, but for my parents as well who aren't as big

The Dig was great, it's like an underground Aquarium. Huge underground area to walk around, and the whole sunken city tank was really awesome. Of course, there's the Casino for your parents (not sure how old you are). Scuba diving in the lagoon was a lot of fun, too. And exploring the resort can be an activity in itself.

4) I am staying in the Coral towers as the new building "The Reef", is very far away from the main resort building and water attrations... Can anyone tell me from experience if the Coral Towers are nice?

We stayed in the Coral Towers when we went, and while it isn't the most expensive hotel to stay in, it's awesome. I've stayed in hotels for the same price of the Towers and while they were nice, they didn't compare. For being "middle-grade," it was a really nice hotel. Atlantis doesn't slack on their world-class resort.

You guys are really great, I hadn't expected such great detailed descriptions and I am incredibly excited about my trip. I am currently going through what you guys wrote writing down all major points and tips. Thanks again and you all answered practically every question that I could possibly ask. If I can think of any more questions, I'll be sure to post here. If you have anything else to point out, I'll be checking here almost hourly with how excited I am for my vacation. Thanks again for all of your help!

I thought of one already! I was looking through there website and I noticed something by the name of, "Shark Adventure". The description says: "Walking with the Sharks is easy and fun. Using state-of-the-art, clear-glass helmets, you can walk on the bottom of the Shark Exhibit."

What exactly are these clear-glass helmets and how do they allow you to walk along the bottom of the shark exhibit?

I went there in '06 and loved it. have you been to the website recently, cause it explains all of the slides and attractions (which are free and included with your stay). The huge aquarium with the manta ray is amazing. and, of course, the beach is beutiiful too. And I definetly recomend a little ice cream parlor on the outdoor side shopping area. the ice cream is delicious. If you have a chance, go there for a try. Have a great time on your vacation!!!
