Axman Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 ^I wish there were more Boardwalks across the country. It's such a wonerful setting for an amusement park. I'm glad you liked my TR.
Angry_Gumball Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I love the boardwalk. That place was my 'growing up' theme park in which I visited more frequently than I did visiting Great America. I would have to totally agree that they have fast operations especially on the Dipper, even in 1 train operation. (I think that the fact that they secure you instead of you doing it yourself helps speeds things up as they can secure you/check you within 1 round instead of waiting for everyone to get their harnesses down to go check.)
Axman Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 When was your last trip? Those pepsi can nights ae crazy, but weeknights, like the tuesday I was there, was still relatively crowded, but everything had short, fast-moving lines. It could just been a well-staffed day. The Dipper ran one train from 11:00AM-12:00PM, but had two for the rest of the day.
darklingscribe Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I wonder if on the really crowed days does the Giant Dipper still close midday for the mechanics to walk the track? I know they walk the track three times a day normally. The one thing I wish the boardwalk would get is another coaster. The hurricane is fun and the Dipper is a classic but I can't help but feel that they need some thing with more intensity. Even if it is just a small shuttle coaster. it doesn't have to be big (if i recall correctly the park cannot build anything higher than the Dipper with the double shot being the only exception) just intense. Of course they might not want to do this because they are, in every essence of the word, a family park and probably want to keep it this way. Great TR, though all the blurry night shots made my eyes ache.
Axman Posted September 6, 2007 Author Posted September 6, 2007 I think the Boardwalk could do with a coaster, but not at the expense of most of their rides. They could do something big, just left of Tsunami, and build over the cliff and river mouth. There's a lot of empty space there, but I doubt that they have the proper zoning rights to build there. Plus the people in those houses on the other side of the river mouth would throw a sh!tfit! What would have been great, is if they bought Greezed Lightnin' from GA, and restored to "Tidal Wave" status. They could have had the station just behind cliffhanger, and the entrance next to the snack bar in front of Rock-O-Plane. It would shoot adjacent to to the Boardwalk; the loop would be near the Sky Glider station and the spike just behind the fried twinkie cart. Just a thought. I was never really sure about the Jet Star replacement, since its such a classic. But apparently, those individual cars got stuck a lot, and ride ops had to push them over. My dad's best friend had to do it all the time, by repelling to the top of on of the turns, and walking the car to the next drop!
darklingscribe Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 After much thought probably the best choice of coaster, if the boardwalk were to ever build another, would be probably be a custom spinning coaster. They could easily fit something built by Maurer Söhne in almost anywhere without upsetting the locals.
Axman Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 That's true. I wouldn't be suprized is something along those lines replace Hurricane over time. I could actually forsee the log flume leaving in the next 10 years. The park's temp rarely ever rose above 90 dagrees when I lived there, and the whole "right-next-door-to-a-beach" quality of the Boardwalk should take care of ANY water ride craving. If Logger's Revenge ever did leave, a roller coaster would no doubt replace it.
