I'll start off by saying I am not exactly sure whether to place this in this forum or in the videographer one, sooo, feel free to move it if it is in the wrong one.

Anyways, I was just wondering what Coaster and park videos some of you out there think are the "technically" best. What I mean by that is videos that have exceptional editing, camera angles, audio, etc. I think it'll be interesting to see how many post their faves being the techno-track ones, or the TPR style kind.

Post what your faves are and why, I'll start off by saying that I think one of the best I have seen is Robb's Hades video, excellent mix of interesting angles, music, and B-roll footage.

None of it was the park's B-Roll. We shot that all ourselves! Now, we also gave the footage back to the park so it might have become their B-Roll!

Well, when I do shooting, I consider A-Roll footage being primary things, like the ride itself, while B-Roll stuff being the "filler". Not just "offical" stuff from the parks themselves.

I've never heard that term used for that. Usually B-Roll refers to footage provided free of charge to broadcast news organizations or stock footage libraries.

Although I have heard of "A and B roll" described as:

A&B Rolls - The negative of an edited film, cut to correspond to picture, built into 2 rolls, A and B, to allow for invisible splices, instant changes of the timing lights and fades and dissolves without the need for opticals. The A roll will have all the odd numbered shots, with black leader in place of all the missing shots. The B roll will have all the even numbered shots, with black leader in place of all the shots on the A roll. The negative is printed in three passes through the contact printer, one for each roll and another for the soundtrack. Only after all the elements have been exposed onto the print stock is the print developed.

But usually when someone talks about B-Roll it's used to describe some stock footage of something.

I think what you're decribing is usually known as cut-away shot:

Cutaway - A shot, usually a closeup of some detail, or landscape, that is used break up a matching action sequence, and is often very helpful in editing to rescue you from an impossible break in continuity or coverage. A cutaway, as the name implies, is a shot that does not focus on some detail of the shot before or after it but cuts away from the action at hand, unlike an Insert Shot. However, the two terms are sometimes used vaguely or interchangeably, although this is not always a useful practice. The best cutaways are the ones that have some logic to them, that relate to the scene.

Those are at least the terms I've grown up with in my career in the entertainment biz.

You are more likely right then. Just browsing through several film sites gave me the terms that I was using.

Gotcha...well, a lot of people use different terms for different things. I probably learn a new term or a new definition of a term each time I'm on a shoot somewhere! So you never know....

For favorite coaster videos, aside from the ones found on TPR are a few YouTube "gems." Despite crappy camera quality since most of these vids are done on cheap cameras with no tripod, I actually still like these videos.
