Calaway Park Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 My first coaster to ever win a medal, regardless of level. I got it from the weekly awards at WWS, and it came with a reward of 500 points. Check it out, if you have a WWS account, be sure to download it there, but if not, download it from the post below, try to rate as much as possible, thanks! The backstory, is that my contest entry was fairly bad, it wasn't smooth, the inversions were uninspired, and the layout was just bad, so I created the Legacy, what it would've been had I not had to make the entire ride in one day. This is one of the few handbuilt rides I still make today, and I'm sure I may end up making another version with tools eventually. I did not try to keep with the Arrow style, so don't dock for that, I just used the track type and gave it my own personal flare. It's hand heartlined sadly, so It's imperfect in many locations, forgive me, I tried. I would've preffered to use the AHG, but I was lazy and I wasn't sure what it'd do to my corkscrew Have fun. http://www.weeweeslap.com/track_exchange/detail.asp?tid=11680 There's an image there, I'm not sure if you can see it if you don't have an account, if you can't, tell me and I'll post the image. Steffen_Dk Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 And yeah.. Congrats with the medal Now I rode it, and I really understand that you've won a medal.. It's nice and smooth, and the layout is awesome. Not psychopathic insane and not too boring.. Just perfect
Golfie Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Wait... what's going on? The coaster download in the first post is really rough. There's a lot of pumping and the first loop went through really slowly. No offence, but is this the one you got a medal on or is it the first version you were talking about?

That's the one I got the medal on... There's not much pumping at all, and the loop isn't slow.. do you have improved friction on? The loop is like that for floater to cause negatives at the top, I don't see what you're talking about haha. W/e.

W/e. loops aren't supposed to have floaters, the vertical G's should stay above +1 at all times to have proper loop
IwantRevenge Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 ^Loops can have something we like to call Hangtime buddy. Even in real life loops can have airtime, see Medusa (east) back row

Golfie Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I don't see how you don't notice those pumps, especially in the helix. Sit in the back seat and watch the front rows. Notice how they jerk quickly in certain directions?

Notice how they jerk quickly in certain directions? Yeah, it is pumpy, it's really obvious, but the layout is what I liked. I tried to keep it smooth, but as you have seen from here, I'm a positively terrible handbuilder.
Golfie Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Which is why you should stick with handbuilding - AHG can take away from a lot of the skill handbuilding a coaster requires (depending on how you use the AHG) which is why you should hone your skills. (IMO, handbuilt coasters turn out better than mathematically made ones in many cases)(Please don't bash me for what I believe in)

I'll tell you this though: It takes just as much skill to make a coaster in Elementary as it does to handbuild it.
