Niller Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Hey everybody out there. Maybe this kind of topic has been made before, but i seriously need help to find a cheap or, if not cheap then, "a not so expensive" way to have fun at Cedar Point. I live in Denmark, about 4000 miles away from the US, and i want to find a cheap flight to Sandusky or any nearby airport, for example Detroit or Chicago. Not to far away. Anyone who know a place to search for flights?? Also are there any place to search for hotels? And the last question. When will be the best period to visit? I'd like to avoid the huge crowds and so on. But it would also be great if the weather is'nt to bad. I'll be very happy if anyone could help me. Thanks.
YoshiFan Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I'm not sure about the first 2, but the best time to visit would be a weekday in May. The park is supposedly empty at that time of year.
willski Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 For your lfight, you might check Orbitz or Cheaptickets for fare sales, then go to the ariline's site to book the tickets (since it's usually a few bcusk cheaper). I'd recommend flying into Clevland, Toledo, or Detriot, as those are the closest commercial airports. To fly into Clevland or Toledo, you have to change planes. Also, if you're going to be only 18 next year, you need either a parent or someone to take you to the park, as you can't rent a car unless you are 21 (or maybe it was 25, not sure) and there is very little decent public transit in the U.S. (very different from Europe).
Niller Posted November 11, 2006 Author Posted November 11, 2006 Okay. Sounds great. Thanks for the advise and help. I'm supposed to go with my parents so driving around and stuff like flying from Europe to the US should not be a problem. Thanks again.
verticalzero Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 It's also best to spend 2 days at Cedar Point, due to it being a massive Park.
Joe21498 Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I would search for your flight using: www.kayak.com It searches all the major airlines for the cheapest flights and links you to the tickets on the airlines website directly. As far as Cedar Point a few weekdays in early may are a must to have a great time. Also if you work through the park in a logical manner you can save time and get more rides. In early May it is possible to ride all the major attractions by 1:00 in the afternoon on any weekday. Try this in late June or July and you will be out of luck as well as sweating to death.
Carnage Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 When will be the best period to visit? I'd like to avoid the huge crowds and so on. But it would also be great if the weather is'nt to bad. It's hard to get both those conditions together. Either you go in May or September with little crowds but cool weather. Or you go in June/July/August have warm weather but big crowds. Personally I prefer the 2 or 3 weekends in September afer Labour Day before Halloweekends start. Weather is still decent, and there are no crowds. The park will be empty in May, howver the weather will be unpredictable.
jamesdillaman Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 A couple car rental agencies WILL rent a car to 18-21 year olds for a much higher price, but only a couple and they vary from city to city. The closest airport/easiest to fly in to would probably be Cleveland, as many more airlines fly there, with more flights than Toledo. Detroit is a much longer drive, as you can't drive over Lake Erie... About the weather, check the forecast paying close attention to the winds. Cedar Point closes many of their rides down due to high winds, which can happen frequently coming off the lake. I like staying at Breaker's Express, which is on the causeway. Their rates are fairly reasonable, especially during the week, and you can take advantage of the early ride time (a good way to get a short wait on MF or TTD is go in and just wait for them to open). I'm not guranteeing anything, as everyone is different, but when I flew out to California a fellow TPR member agreed to pick me up from the airport and take me to SFMM. Everyone's different, but there are a lot of people on these boards, and if you're serious about seeing the park, a local season pass-holder is also a great asset to have on your side. Who knows, you might even be able to split a hotel bill. Hope these ideas help you out some. -James Dillaman
