Idlewood Park-UPDATE: 11:30 PM

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm starting a park called Idlewood for now, though it will most likely change before I'm finished with the park. As the park is now (still in the scenario editor) it has taken me about 5 or 6 hours to get to this point. About 4 or more was just the terraforming, and that is because the land reaches a high point of 50 feet; which can take a while for a 175 map. Here is a screen of the entrance plaza so far, though I am far from getting out of the scenario editor yet. I probably still have at least another 5 hours of work to do in the scenario editor.

Yeah, I don't do much of anything that is abstract, except for some elements on my coasters, all are usually well within the realm of possibility. My buildings are usually simple and classical amusement park style. I'm not big on themeing either. I think the most you'll see themeing wise are trees.

You spent 4 hours on terraforming? Please tell me you're using the mountain tool.

Why did you name a park after an area in Los Santos? Or is this just a random name?

The entrance thing looks too blocky. The roof looks too flat. I would also use an invisible entrance or hide it inside the entrance.

For your buildings, I'd use a foundation block. Meaning replace every piece of wall that touches the ground with a brick wall piece, or something that looks like foundation.

i'm sure that you'll do this later, but make sure that you add small vegetation, bushes, grass, etc.

Can't really tell much, but thjis looks OK so far.

Can we maybe get an overview to see the result of all those hours?

Don't know if you noticed two important words in what I just quoted, so far. I'm still working on the entrance, as I just finished the one side of the offices off to each side of the entrance, now I have to do the other side. As for using the mountain tool, I only have hills through a small section. The land reaches it's highest point by gradually increasing (I.E. steps of land). That is what took me so long, getting the land to each specific height plateau and then grading it to flow. You can't use the mountain tool for that. Here are some screens that show the still unfinished entrance. I'll also show you a wide shot of the entire map before I started the buildings and trees.

Actually, you can use the mountain tool for that, well a combination of mountain tool and the select-a-size tool. It would take about 10-20 mins to do what you did. It looks good so far. But personally I don't know why you post unfinished stuff. I can't really tel you what I think because you might still change it later.

Near park entrances, theer are usually decorative trees and gardens; which is not what you have. I'd take out all the big trees you have and put in more gardens and smaller trees. Do what you did on the second screen, but in between windows, instead of gardens put small trees.

I also don't like the choice of fence. If you're going for realism, right after the entrance there'd be a lot of buildings for info, lockers, etc. But you might still add that later.

Try to post complete things, please.

So far it's good.

Alright, after I take care of some details and forestry, I will be finished in the scenario editor! The park entrance is finished (minus the carousel that will be going in the empty block you'll be seeing in a second), and I am very pleased with it, and think it is definately my best park entrance yet. And the first coaster isn't very far off either. Here are the updated screens, I hope you'll enjoy them.

The area that will greet guests to the park. It will feature a classic carousel as well as the grand fountains.

Wow, lay back on the harsh comments, ass. Didn't you read in the last posts that he's not done yet and work is still to be done?

God, after 3-4 years in the RCT community I've never seen someone like you. You aren't rude, you are harsh.

make away with hasty tidings and be nice!

^I agree. I just found it as he was trying help, and give him tips. I didn't find anything negative in it. Chris you should not have been that hard on the comment. He was just trying to help him out. Anyways, the park is coming along very nicely. I also agree with Super Looper, you should add more trees (small) to the entrance. Other than that, fantastic work!

I'm not harsh, Im real.

If I see something that doesn't appeal to ME, I state it, and make a SUGGESTION on how to make it better.

I also give some TIPS on how to do things easier and/or faster.

In a forum, people post their OPINIONS. Something that may appeal to one guy, might look wierd to another. Im simply posting what I THINK looks out of place. He may or may not choose to change it, I really don't care.

No offense, but I think that me being critical is better then people posting things like "GOOD JOB!"

Criticism gives people a chance to improve.

Didn't you read in the last posts that he's not done yet and work is still to be done?

I believe that I stated TWICE in my post that I knew that he was not done.

Blue Streak, if you have a problem with what I post, say so and I'll stop posting in your thread.

I have no problem with constructive critiscism (as Z well knows), but to be honest, I thought you were coming across as a know-it-all, perfect park builder with some of your comments. Now, try to sound a little more like you're suggesting something rather than sounding like a know-it-all and I may consider it next time.

^I agree completely.

Constructive criticism is fine, and a very good thing, but you did sound a little harsh, e.g. "I don't know why you post unfinished stuff." Not everyone has to post park updates and build parks the exact same way you do.

Alright, it is time for yet another update. I am finally out of the scenario editor and have moved into the normal park mode. The entrance plaza has been completed with a gift shop, a McDonalds, restrooms, and the security building. I have also put in a carousel, a Whip ride (appropriately named), and last but certainly not least, a side friction coaster. I hope you enjoy this update. Comments and constructive critiscism welcome and appreciated.

my deepest regrets,

I did not mean it the way I said it. Super loopers posts were kinda annoying me with like: you need more gardens! OMG! but I didnt consider it negative. I was just annoyed, sorry Super Looper.

BTW, the reasons the didnts arent right is im a foriegn keyboard here in Germany and my fingering is messed up. sorry.
