  1. Of course FL+.. that is what I meant:) We did that at Busch Gardens and it was on and off. Totally worth it. Are both parks running as they "should" or is one better than the other?
  2. I've been out of the loop for a few months here so I thought I would post and ask about the status of CP and KI. I know earlier in the season CP was a major cluster-F*** so we decided to wait to go later in the season. We are planning to go to one of these parks in a couple of weeks (aiming for a Tuesday/Wednesday). What I am wondering is which park is operating better under the current employee shortage pandemic? Cincinnati is about 5 hours from us and CP is maybe 3. I think I read somewhere no reservations are required now? And, is it cheaper to get FL ahead of time or is it the same if they are purchased in the park? Just looking for thoughts, insights, advice! Thanks in advance!
  3. They've changed ALL of the old-school coaster restraints from when I was a kid. Blue Streak, Mine Ride, and Gemini were ONE seat for two people and one large belt over two people. They've made the seats individual which means less room, as well. If you are tall, it's going to suck!
  4. My husband is in this industry. He told me it depends on the chain. If it is a specialized OEM, it could take months (something specifically made for them). However, he said that it would surprise him if they did not have more than one just in case....as lucrative as that business is and relies on running. Mostly, it all depends upon the chain, what happened to it, etc. Although I am sure there are safety measures in place to prevent a train from flailing from it's track, that is still kind of scary to think about!! LOL
  5. But hanging out at a park won't teach you how to be financially responsible...LOL. There were things I wanted to do (take private clarinet lessons from a professor at MSU) but my parents weren't going to pay for them (it was not cheap), so at 15yo, I worked at our Dairy Queen. I took my private lessons and paid for them myself. Later on, I purchased a stereo system for my room. Quite honestly, the experience was priceless...learning how to work with money, deal with crappy customers. Get along with supervisors and coworkers, etc. I don't think parents are doing their kids a favor by handing things to them. After awhile, nothing will excite them or make them happy and in the real world, they will not be able to figure out why they NOW have to pay to live. Talk about mental health LOL. Hell, in my 20s, I worked two jobs and went to school. One job at one point was a paid internship so that one did contribute to the entire college experience/resume, etc. I really had no choice. I didn't qualify for a hell of a lot of financial aid and my parents couldn't foot the bill so if I wanted it, it was on me. Hello, real world. And, let's be honest....when I was 16, I made a whopping 3.35/hr at McDonald's! LOL Good times (it was a social job for me..made lots of friends and had fun).
  6. How sad!!!! WTH is wrong with people today!? Happier living off the system? I outright told my daughter (she is 16) today that if she wants her hair dyed and to stay in TaeKwanDo, she better find a job. There is no reason why she cannot start helping herself. Hell, for $20/hr, free meals, free board, free entry to CP, *I* will go work there!!! I have no shame! That's great money!! And FREEEEEE RIDES!!! Hell yes!
  7. Hi all! We've been debating Cedar Point, but with the way the park is so understaffed right now and two days being shut down, we thought we'd give King's Island a shot. Any thoughts on how things are running down there? Best days to go/month to go? Appreciate any insight!
  8. I was going to sit this summer out for CP, but my kids want to go. I know I am going to need a lot of patience for it no matter what, but does anyone have any thoughts or best times to go from here on out in the season? Yea, I know..nobody can see into the future (especially under these conditions), but I thought I'd just reach out since many of you have way more experience at this than I do!
  9. Has anyone heard of how Michigan's Adventure is doing today? I think today is the first day?
  10. Or, is it a radio station promotion announcement? Maybe they are giving away season tix or something. It's probably not as big as they make it out to be. I did radio for 10 years and the hype is usually overrated to draw listeners.... the FOMO! It's real!
  11. LOL Right?!?! I'm going for a coaster/ride announcement. Or is it too early for those?
  12. I don't think these jobs are meant to be long-term careers and for the target demographic of employees they are looking for, it's great money. Full time college student with a killer summer job? Yes, please!! If I didn't have an age factor, I'd go now!! ;0) *CP Coaster voice* Thank you for riding and enjoy the rest of your day here at Cedar Point! I got that down;0) HOWEVER.....at my age I would tell them to go eff themselves the first time they decided to be shitty with me. Younger people tolerate that crap more than older people. I've been over the road for far too long and I'm over it. I never experienced that when I worked at CP, though....just the one time when the big boss decided he didn't care if I had an emergency at home...I needed to stay and work. I told him to F-OFF and I left. LOL
  13. It really does sound like times have changed since I worked there. That was in 93. Back then, it is where college students flocked to..it was a HUGE social event for us. We didn't get paid a ginormous amount of money and no OT (due to being seasonal), but as I said, it was a social thing and most college students didn't have car payments, car insurance, mortgages, etc....many had parents paying tuition, car insurance, etc so whatever they made, they pocketed it (aside from dorm rent and food). I had a car there but many did not..... we had a decent night life (TGIFridays was at the entrance of the causeway) amongst other things that centered around the park/beaches/put in bay. It was THE job to have back then. It's different now. I think mentality is a bit different. My daughter is 16 and most of her friends don't work and have their parents supply everything for them. Why would they want to work? I wouldn't want to! It's unfortunate because the real world hits HARD when you step into it. Mortgage, car insurance, health insurance...and you pay it or you don't have it. Period. I told my daughter when she gets old enough to go to Cedar Point to work to do it. You can't argue that it isn't great experience. You work your butt off but depending upon your position, you learn some valuable people-skills, money skills, customer service skills......oh wait. That last one doesn't exist, anymore. When school is out in a few weeks here, I told my daughter she WILL work or she won't drive (insurance/car), she won't be going to movies, etc with friends, etc and so on. It's a hard lesson, but a very valuable one. But, for $20/hour, I would flock there NOW to work! $20/hr to be a sweeper?? Yes, please. No people to deal with. You do your job and you are left alone (I dealt with people...front desk Sand Castle Suites Hotel). But, i am not local and I have an age factor soooooooo.....but, maybe they wouldn't care at this point??? ;0) LOL
  14. I don't know who the bigwigs are that run it now, but I worked there in 93 and even though we weren't pandemic-ridden at that time, there were still some very inefficient and crappy management. At least they were fully staffed, though, right?? LOL
  15. Those with season passes cannot make reservations?!?!!?
  16. We just tried to get into a Chili's in the Detroit area. At 5p on a Friday night with only three tables occupied, 45-60min wait. The hostess said they have ONE SERVER.
  17. I saw a Twitter post where an apparent "employee" of CP stated they are grayed out because the days are full in capacity. LOL I'm thinking , "and the Saturdays are not?". YEA. Right.
  18. LOL I'm close to you...,but have zero chest to speak of!!
