DisneyParks Price Hikes

Thing of it is...there's a huge intangible that can't be measured by visits or hours per visit - stress. As you point out, a visit as a passholder might be entirely different than a visit with a 1-day ticket, and that difference is almost completely how much you feel like you need to do in that one day. To sum that up in one word, it's stress. Visit as passholder might be shorter, but it's also MUCH MUCH less stressful than an all day adventure. Less stress on anyone & everyone involved. So I combine that along with the "so and so number of visits" reasoning and even at $499, it's decent. Obviously not as good as when it was $249 when Elissa got hers, or $299 when I got mine back in 2003, but decent. What I abhor, however, is the stark difference between what $499 will buy at DLR, and what $499 will buy at WDW. $499 at DLR gets a guest 365 days of admission into the two DLR parks, and parking. $499 at WDW gets 10 days of non-expiring admission into the four WDW theme parks, two water parks, Disney Quest, and anything else I left out. That's a crazy difference! Five fewer parks for the same price (assuming you call DQ a 'park')?? We're gettin' robbed here in CA, but Disney knows the vast majority of local SoCal people will still choose the staycation-style Disneyland trip over flying the family out to WDW, despite the urgings of Robb & Elissa. -

Even at $499, it only takes 6-7 vists to pay the Premium DLR AP off. Less when you factor parking into the calculation. That's once every other month on average. Still the best way to visit the Resort all year 'round, if that's your thing. -
Steve, all anyone has to do to understand the real reason why both X and Superman have gone through transformations is to remember how they were running in 2003-2007. Compare that to now, and tell me if you don't see any improvements. Was doing & marketing X2's transformation a waste of money? Of course not. Where do the people run to at park opening? About Road Runner Express...I thought they did a pretty good job with that, especially given the box they had to work in. You know who's going to care that it sat in pieces backstage for over a year now that it's finished, open, and looking great? Nobody. Certainly not the families who'll come and have a great time riding it. SFMM has its flaws to be sure, but there's also been a lot of positive going on. Just think about all that's been improved in the past few years all the while dealing with the bankruptcy.

I wasn't aware that repainting & adding effects to existing rides constituted a waste of money. X/X2 is running great everyday, as is Superman, Batman now a shiny blue instead of a faded grey, Viper/Goliath looking great, etc is all just a waste of money I guess. You're right, SFMM would be a much better place if none of those projects had ever taken place.

I don't see the need to b*tch about it. Pay the upcharge per ride, or wait in the main queue. Choice is yours. If I were you, instead of wasting time complaining about it, I'd pay for the group to ride it & have a great time on it, and then proceed to use the Flash Pass to have a great time on as many other rides as possible. Then if your group really wants to ride again, get in line 2 minutes before park closing. The wait time will likely be minimal, and it'll all be bonus time for you & your group. Focus the energies on having the best time possible.

Traveling in California
PeoplemoverMatt replied to Mike Austin's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
By Car 60 West => 57 North => 210 West => 5 North => Magic Mtn. Pkwy (Exit 170) So long as you're not traveling between the hours of 7am-10am and 3pm-8pm, this should take 90-120mins. Best way to use public transport is Metrolink from R-Side to Union, then Union up to Valencia, then Transit Bus to SFMM. Roughly 2-3 hours regardless of time of day. -
SFMM lies at the bottom of the freaking grapevine and you guys are honestly worried about its Sky Tower surviving sustained winds? You know all those wind advisories you hear on TV for passes & canyons? Guess where SFMM is? At the bottom of a pass/canyon!!! And the Sky Tower has stood for the last 40 years just fine. It's amazing to me how people think SFMM is some death trap when it's actually one of the safer places you could be in a disaster. I'd sure prefer to be in a wide open area in a theme park than on a freeway interchange that collapses!

So... having a trademark with the name "walk" in it carries with it a de facto block on any other attempted trademark with "walk" in it??? I guess I can't exactly blame Universal for trying, but, it's a mostly laughable lawsuit. Best part is the "confusion" that they fear. OH NOES! PEOPLE WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CITYWALK & IWALK!!11!!!1!! I know it's Florida and all but really...

Six Flags raises parking fees.
PeoplemoverMatt replied to thrillrider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorta doubt that TPR would condone this. I mean, you can try that, but you'll have to wrestle with the personal ethics of mooching off someone else's private property to satisfy your being cheap. You'll also risk getting towed if the car doesn't move until very late at night, and mall security doesn't believe that you're a patron of the facility (your sunburn could be a giveaway, for example). The Valencia mall should be considered private property reserved for patrons only, just like any other private property in/around any other venue. Besides, whatever happened to actually supporting the business, and the industry in general? -
Just had a bit of a thought here. Remember how we used to talk about maybe it would be better if DCA would just shut down for the better part of the year and rebuild itself instead of forcing its guests to walk through construction wall mazes for 2ish years to get to the stuff not under construction/reconstruction? We were thinking even though it would be unfortunate for the park to be closed, the projects would take far less time to build & guests wouldn't be forced to see how crappy construction makes the park look. Remember that? Well, it seems with the backlot closed for construction of Green Lantern/DC Universe, now we have our chance to examine that theory in reality, only at SFMM rather than DCA. So far I'm preferring the closure with rapidly accelerated construction calendar!

So, who hedged against this by buying 4 or more 2011 Season Passes and scoring free Season Parking along with them? That deal is still available, but will end on Sunday... -
