  1. Haha... maybe theyre keeping some of it as a water feature

  3. I want to believe that Darien Lake executives reviewed this thread to gauge interest in the information of a new coaster and just saw everyone freaking out about the flume so they named it Tantrum in honor of those reactions.
  4. They have the slide complex still sitting somewhere? Yes
  5. If that roller coaster wasnt in such a visible spot, no one would mention it. They should hide it like the former slide complex that shall not be named. Actually, the weeds might hide it eventually.
  6. What makes Frozen not a log flume? Other than the fact its looks like a boat and not a log.
  7. If anyone in the US wants a new log flume, they should be asking for a reversible log flume, the kind that are prevalent all over Europe. They just add another level of excitement for the family and something that can be marketing as a first in America. Its not a first... Frozen Ever After (formerly Maelstrom) at Epcot goes backwards. Unless thats not what you mean by reversible.
  8. Maybe its 4.5 mil new money and they sell TR?
  9. Its just a mockup and not necessarily the finished layout: For Darien Lake's newest thrill, roller coaster planned to open next summer By Aaron Besecker | Published 3:11 p.m. November 3, 2017 | Updated 1 hour ago A tall and twisting roller coaster aimed at attracting visitors from beyond the region and the state is on track to open next summer at Darien Lake theme park. Details are sketchy, but the theme park appears to be eyeing a roller coaster that travels 44 to 62 mph with a completely vertical incline and a drop that goes beyond vertical. "This is a biggie," said Tom Turnbull, president of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce. Darien Lake Holdings LLC has submitted plans to the Genesee County Town of Darien to demolish the Thunder Rapids log ride and construct a new ride. Documents filed with the town included drawings of a "Euro-fighter"-style roller coaster from Gerstlauer Amusement Rides, a German manufacturer of coasters and other rides. The drawings were labeled "preliminary information" and "work in progress." ADVERTISEMENT The design of the roller coasters range in height from 73 to 141 feet and feature tracks with descents of between 97 and 121 degrees, according to layouts on the company's website. Chris Thorpe, general manager of Darien Lake, could not be reached for comment. A spokeswoman for the company issued a written statement on Thorpe's behalf: “The entire team at Darien Lake is committed to investing in the park and the economic development of Genesee County," the statement read. "We are thrilled with the new proposed ride and anticipate being able to announce the full details in the coming weeks, once the proper approvals are received.” The park has seen consistent attendance levels for three years, though the Genesee County theme park's 2017 season was dampened by wet weather, with 42 percent of operating days hit by rain, according to the company. The new roller coaster is aimed at improving the park's draw regionally and from across the state, as well as the northeast United States and southern Ontario, according to Thorpe's notes submitted as part of the planning board application. The Genesee County Planning Board is scheduled to review the project on Nov. 9 and offer a recommendation to Darien officials. The Town of Darien Planning Board, which holds the final authority to approve a site plan, meets on Nov. 20. Darien Lake Holdings LLC was awarded $360,000 in sales tax breaks for the project by Genesee County Industrial Development Agency on Oct. 26. The total capital investment for the project is $4.5 million, according to a document from the county agency. The theme park was purchased last year by EPR Properties, a Kansas City, Mo.-based real estate investment trust, from CNL Lifestyle Properties. It was sold by Six Flags Inc. to CNL in 2007. Darien Lake last opened a new roller coaster – the $3.4 million Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster – in 2008. The thrill ride features more than 1,100 feet of track as high as 40 feet in the air and passengers travel at speeds from zero to 40 mph in three seconds. The theme park is also home to what it says is the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the state, the Ride of Steel, which opened in 1999 and cost $12 million. Darien Lake unveiled a new water slide, known as the RipCurl Racer, in 2016. For Turnbull, head of the county chamber of commerce, the project will be a boost for the park and for tourism in the region. Darien Lake serves as a big economic engine for Genesee County, Turnbull said. In the past when the park has unveiled new rides, especially major new attractions, they've seen dramatic surges in attendance, he said. "It should be great for Darien Lake," he said. "It will be great for Genesee County."
  10. And then there's WDW, at $600... which isnt bad, ultimately because you can go year round and pays for itself after 6 visits.
  11. Season pass flash sale until 11/12... $54.99, normally 69.99.
  12. The Giant Wheel is floodlit, just nothing on the spokes.
  13. Highly doubt there will be any new infornation on it, it was only for approval of the tax breaks.
  14. Ill never complain about a breakdown, especially after this WDW trip. Frozen Ever After (Maelstrom) seemed to always be broken/breaking, as did Test Track and Thunder Mountain. Pirates of the Caribbean went down a few times too. Breakdowns happen everywhere, and they are not necessarily indicative of a larger problem.
  15. Slightly off topic... about Pandora at AK... WOW what a place and Flight of Passage is ridiculously cool
  16. ...what? People in this thread complain about park cleanliness, ride painting and maintenance breakdowns, and I havent seen anything at DL (in regards to that) that I havent seen at WDW. Two rides broke down today at Epcot while I was on it or in line. If that happened at DL the park is on it way to closing down if you ask the people in this thread. You have to keep in mind there is a HUGE difference between Darien Lake and Walt Disney World. You dont say? My point is, "problems" at DL also are "problems" in a major theme park run by a major corporation. You're listing problems that are present at every park known to man. No park is perfect, people. You heard me. This is the best conversation that I've seen on this thread in a very long time. People can be straight up wimps about the smallest details. Also, I've been to Dinseyworld (the Florida resort for anyone living under a rock) several times so far and noticed the same thing. Darien Lake is really not that bad. If you want to see a real poor quality experience, go to Sylvan Beach nearby. There's a reason Sylvan Beach does not have a thread on TPR Thank you for getting it as well.

  20. So im at WDW this week, and looking around the park i have to laugh at the things people complain about in this thread. Talking like its just something wrong with Darien Lake when its actually normal.
  21. Theres an article that says they got "a step closer" but you need to be a subscriber to read it
  22. Found the agebda, however it is only listed as new ride or Project 2018.
