  1. I have been hoping for a Huss Flying Disc themed to a saw blade where Timber Tower once stood. They did remove the water play area between there and Thunderhead so maybe a new flat would go there.
  2. My biggest issue has to do with the fact that I have a large frame and have large legs from cycling. It's not just the Voyage, every PTC train beats me up. Last weekend, I rode 6 woodies with PTC's and all beat me up. I never had that problem when I was younger and smaller. I do agree, some coaster are better because of the roughness. I remember riding Steel Phantom (with loops) and having to hold the handrail just to walk off the station cause your bell would be rung and thinking, "H-ll YEAH! that was an awesome coaster!!" Don't get me wrong, I was able to do 2 night rides on Voyage in the front and was an incredible experience. Its a solid choice as my number two coaster. I would have loved to ride it with Timberliners.
  3. I haven't visited the thread in a while, but there has been a lot of discussion concerning the Launched Lift. per Danny Robbins (Dollywood VIP guru / LR Ride op) the lift is operating beautifully. There are other issues with the coaster that are non disclosed. I don't think the launch is going anywhere anytime soon.Nor will I speculate further on what it may be.
  4. Howdy yall. Last weekend I made my first trip to Holiday World. For all of you who call this place your home park, you have a great gem on your hands. I am not going to do a full trip report but I enjoyed it and will have to come back in the summer when the water park is open. PROS: Free drinks- this is a real money saver and time saver that the stations are self serve. For only having 4 major coasters, all were fun. staff was friendly CONS: After my day there, I have come to the conclusion that PTC trains are of the devil. I have larger legs and have to squeeze into the seat. My first ride on Voyage left a bruise on my right thigh from the lap bar. My next ride was Legend and I sat in the right side of the train. It was a good ride until the helix, bruised my ribs and ripped my shorts. Raven gave me a good chiropractic adjustment. I did manage to get two night rides in on Voyage in the front and it redeemed itself for my bruised thigh. the night ride definitely put it in my top 5. Overall, I will be back next summer.
  5. Goats on the Roof and Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster are about a mile from each other on Wears valley Rd. I have only been on Smoky but hear both are nice. Smoky Alpine does have covers to put over the car if its raining so they can pretty much run it year round. If you take the trip to Gatlinburg, there is also Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster which I hear is the shortest. There is also one up on Ober Gatlinburg but I hear they are having trouble with it due to the manufacturer and it may not be operating.
  6. great review of the park! I am lucky enough to consider Dollywood my home park. Technically SFOG is closer but its a different story. Firechaser express is a very underrated coaster. I enjoy it every time I ride. Its really cool to ride at night when its cold out. The building fills up with so much fog you cant see going backwards. Whenever I am inline for LR and someone askes me if it is worth the wait, my response is always, "Just look at the peoples faces when the train hits the brake run." Looks like you had that "Holy S! What just hapened moment."
  7. I have taken about 12 laps on LR so far. I somehow get lucky and always been row 9 or higher. My theory on the "pothole" is that the train is pretty much on the upstops going down the big drop and the bump you feel is the train coming back down on it's wheels to the roll out of the hill. I'd love to see if upstop media has some under footage of this transition.
  8. I would hit LR as soon as you can to assure it will be running then get Wild Eagle before afternoon when the wasps show up. Most of the crowds will be there for the southern gospel so use the Timesaver for shows as well. I'll be there saturday.
  9. DRobbins is does VIP tours for DW so I am sure he has a wealth of information about the park. If you ever get a chance to meet him, hes a really cool dude too. Most of the time, he's being a ride op for LR. So if you're ever in the vicinity... say hi!
  10. Hey guys! I am planning on at trip to KI one Sunday in October. What should I expect crowd wise. I really don't care about the haunt going on.
  11. When we went last week I noticed wasps on top of WE. Not a lot but enough. Didn't notice any on Lightning Rod. But then again, when you're going 40mph you dont notice those things.
  12. Rode it toady about noon(ish) they were assigning seats. I think it was row 11, the second to last row that was blocked off. On a side note, I have said this before but I'm saying it again. Make sure your pockets are empty before you ride this beast. When I rode it today, someone's cell phone fell out. Luckily it was toward the top of the wave turn and the phone flew away from the train. we told an operator and his first response was,"Did it hit anybody? cause last week somebody got hit in the face."
  13. Actually they have the Christmas lights going on then. Weekends get busy. Get there as soon as it opens. I have seen parking go to the splash Country lot on Saturdays. Having said that, a majority of the crowds will be there for the shows and the ride lines are bearable. If the weather gets below 40ish they close the rides. Also, the 11th, is their Light the Way 5K.
  14. IN terms of Dollywood crowds during Rod Run. I actually find it lower than normal. Most of the people there are wives and kids wanting to get away from the cars. Traffic is HORRENDOUS in Pigeon Forge. Last year it took us almost an hour to get to our hotel which was mainly backroads. My advice is to stay in Sevierville and take the backroads in to the park.
  15. I think the cutoff is 40 degrees. Anything below that and they won't run coasters. Last year, with such a mild winter, coasters were running till close.
  16. Take Danny's word for it. He really does what he says he does. Also a cool guy.
  17. So the Million Dollar (literally) question is this... if a wood structure proves to be too dynamic to handle a launch system. Will we see a tearout of the launch hill and see a completely new structure put in its place over winter? IN other words, will they have Intamin build a lift hill similar to Goliath or Wildfire with an Intamin launch system on it?
  18. If you don't feel safe using the bins, they also have lockers near each coaster that you can lock valuables up in. They have the pay one price and use any locker deal. But I carry one of those string back pack things and hand it to the host to put in the bins. Never had a problem with it. Some coasters have a separate set of bins for each train.
  19. Took a quick trip to the park today for a lap on LR. Couldn't stay long because of work. But I also wanted to get a picture of the Inventors Mansion. Yes it is still up! It looks like the are rebuilding a retaining wall on the hill side. To join in on the MM conversation. IMHO, it it themed so well that that you almost feel like you are on a flat ride more than a coaster. at least until that last drop. That little twist racks me every time. I enjoy the ride but it is second from the bottom of my list at DW. Taken 8/19
  20. Today is August the 16th and Dollywood was closed.. no way Adam the Woo filmed it today I'll try and swing by the park tomorrow and check.. I plan on going to Dollywood anyways tomorrow I know it was still standing just a week and half ago so if it was tore down it was sometime last week or even this weekend. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk If you watch toward the end of adam's video you can see the wall up. I think what it is ,is that they took down the ramp going up to the Inventors Mansion and removed all the Rock facade that was between Miss Lillians and the tunnel. The open space that is there now may have played a trick on my mind thinking some other building was there. I would go tomorrow to get pictures, but they are closed on Thursdays now.
  21. It was down when I went in June.
  22. The op's will assist you in locking your restraints on all other coasters and Barnstormer, LR is the only exception. My ride buddy is of a larger size, he doesn't fit on Mystery Mine, but get's squeezed in on the others by the op's. I do it for him on LR, the whole reason i was pondering why they don't in the first place. maybe I'm too fat for them to even try... LOL
  23. Hey everyone, Long time follower. But just never registered. Been a DW passholder since 2011 so I have been to the park one or twice . IN terms of the ops pushing down on the restraints, Lightning Rod is not the exception at DW. For some reason they are not allowed (or just don't do it) on any coaster. I'm not skinny so I know this for fact. to answer the season pass question, its usually November 1st or that weekend when you can start getting season passes for 2017. Once the lights go on, Fridays and Saturdays are ridiculously packed. Its pretty common to park in the Splash Country Lots. Shows fill up fast. I try to go mid week if I can. To open up a can of worms I havent seen discussed... I noticed that the building between the Chicken Lady and the old flooded mine has been torn down. Is this possibly going to be a new dark ride for 2017?
