  1. GAC is a music video channel. Came about after Viacom ruined CMT (was CMTV). It's also on RFD TV, AXS, Heartland, and at least one Nashville TV station (WATE). Streaming on Facebook too. It was announced back on Dec 3. http://wate.com/2016/12/03/dolly-parton-organizes-nashville-telethon-for-sevier-county-fire-victims/
  2. Not sure why it's not on the site. In cold weather they put out signs that say 36 (or have in the past). But others here have mentioned seeing things closed at higher temps (search the thread). I usually deal with the cold issues in March. Haven't been in December.
  3. What do you like? All the coasters are fun and unique. Ride them early before the temps drop. How acclimated to Ohio weather are you? May want something to cover the ears on the coasters (and of course coats and gloves). I use this style: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41p2RXnCkmL._SY300_.jpg Like weight but block the wind well. The bands made for skiing would work well, but I don't like stuff on my forehead. Eat lots of cinnamon bread from the Mill.
  4. Officially I believe it's 36, but they will close at higher temps is icing is likely, or it's really slow. Lubrication is another issue and it's possible that some rides need higher temps.
  5. It's only 200ft. Better than 80 sure, but 350-400 would have been nicer. Having done 180ft starting 920ft in the air looking at Vegas, 200ft isn't much thrill. And several ~200ft Space Shots I drive past a 140ft S&S space shot 5 days a week. Rode it a few times and even with the view of a Saturn V rocket and a Space Shuttle the ride didn't impress. Sure great view though it won't clear WE with the hills, but you will have the view longer. I'd love 350 ft a lot more. Don't get me wrong I'll ride it. Especially when the lines are long. I rode the original Freefall at Magic Mountain in the mid 80s and had a blast, but I was ~12 at the time. Between WE and LR I was hoping for a bit more wild/extreme.
  6. I went up Friday afternoon.. Business as usual on the strip, haven't been up in the mountains yet. It was actually fairly crowded when I was up there. Good to hear. was worried people would be slow to return.
  7. I guess no one here has been to the area yet? No reports for Fri or Sat.
  8. I'm hoping the drop tower surprises me. Not overly enthused by the specs.
  9. And if you believe trial science (ala Bull) even the lawyer is minor. We'll see in a year or 3, when this goes to trial.
  10. On that we agree. The juvenile status makes it unlikely, particularly for the 15yr old. But I stand by the letter of the law that the setting the fire is the only intent required. where it spread to doesn't matter. If they weren't kids I guaranty murder charges (not convictions) would be coming. If one had intended to burn one house and it spread to the whole neighborhood and killed someone, then it's felony murder, a.2 in the TN statute for 1st degree murder. The same section that covers other deaths in the commission of felonies like rape and robbery. Check out a.3, if you set off a bomb, for any reason, and some one dies it's 1st degree murder. Either way, the trials won't start for years. How far it spreads isn't a factor in the law. Winds can carry embers miles away like here. You are still responsible for what happens. I saw the speculation on blaming the park service. It's hooey, they went after it like any other fire. They used the resources available to contain it. Anyone with experience in fighting wildfires will confirm how they are dealt with. This isn't a brush fire on a farm that's completely out in a hour or two.
  11. No, they only have to prove intent on the arson. The resulting death does not require any intent to harm or kill. Doesn't matter how far the fire spread. I can't find them right now, but I recall cases where a wildfire spread to homes and murder was charged. If the fire had been started by a 20-30 something, they would be charged. It's only the age of these two that's causing hesitation.
  12. But under the law it could. And has in similar cases, fire spread to other areas. The real hindrance is the age of the offenders. But both could be charged in juvenile court. The 17 yr old might see adult charges. And remember, being charged is not being convicted. The jury may not convict on murder 1, just going for arson.,
  13. Not in TN it doesn't. Read the statute. I coped item a.2, relevant to this case.(i also liked a source). Intent to cause death is not required for a.2 or a.3, the statute even says that (b). You only have to meet intent of the predicate felony, arson (one of the enumerated felonies in a.2). Throwing lit matches in a dry forest (recall the burn ban in effect) is clear intent. This is what I mentioned before, I just missed it was 1st degree. You burn a building that was supposed to be empty and it turns out someone was in it. You didn't intend to kill anyone, but it's still murder in the 1st. It also used on accomplices. Two guys rob a place. One if them kills simeone. The other, who never intended to kill, still gets murder 1.
  14. It's all fun and games until someone loses and eye (or starts a wildfire)
  15. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2016/12/09/sources-teens-toying-matches-started-fatal-wildfire/95210356/ Of note to the recent discussion: "aggravated arson is a crime for which a charge of felony murder — a death that results from the commission of certain felonies -- can be legally supported.'' I was off, it would be 1st Degree Murder " (2) A killing of another committed in the perpetration of or attempt to perpetrate any first degree murder, act of terrorism, arson, rape, robbery, burglary, theft, kidnapping, aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, rape of a child, aggravated rape of a child or aircraft piracy" http://law.justia.com/codes/tennessee/2010/title-39/chapter-13/part-2/39-13-202
  16. I recall something about foreseeable results. So arson, being a purposeful act, and a death as a result would be homicide. Pretty sure people have been convicted of murder after burning a supposed empty building the wasn't empty. As to double jeopardy, that usually means a second trial for the same act. But people are charged and convicted of multiple charges in a single trial all the time. I see 13 counts of murder (2nd degree? Through the accompanying felony may bump it up) and one count of arson. Possibly some more (reckless endangerment?) The lady who died getting out of Wears Valley (hear attack?) probably won't meet the murder statutes.

  18. Well, self-fill, but you still have to get in line to pay the cashier. The refill stations at Splash uses the RFID tag in the mug. They won't dispense anything w/o a valid tag (in the base of the mug) on the sensor. Old, expired mugs, or those w/o the tag (like DW mugs) mean waiting in like to pay and get them filled, and there are fewer options for that at Splash. (The lines tend to be long too). What bugs me most is the change in availability of iced tea. At one point most places had it, now it's very few (the sit down restaurants and the Kettle Corn shop are all that come to mind). And try finding it at Splash (which did have it a few years ago). I'm just not a big soft drink person.
  19. Cup/mug same. The SC mugs are still the older style w/o a straw.
  20. Of course many just trash the receipt, so if they tried to reenter they'd have to pay again. I thought I read a few cases where people left to go get things not available at the park (baby stuff, medicine, etc) and had no problems getting back in. Regarding parking for splash, my guess is the person was confused. It happens. I had one try to charge too much for preferred parking once (with the gold pass you only pay the difference between normal and preferred). Took a minute, but got them corrected . Luckily it was early on a slower day, so not a big backup.
  21. We only make splash once and just get the 1 day mug. So just trying to recall a single question 2+ years ago. Like you, never paid separate for parking either but I thought I had read differently on same day reentry. Never had issues with s DW gold pass when going Splash but generally have the Super pass in recent years.
  22. Are you sure about that? The parking receipt is dated and as long as you have that you should be able to get back in. Not that I've ever left and come back. Agree about trying to coordinate across the track. Seen many groups doing it and it's always a mess. But, WE isn't the only 4 seater. Mystery Mine is too. Or 8 is you want to look at that way. And I think Blazing Furry is too. As a single purchase there are quantity discounts $15 for one, $7 for each additional purchased at the same time ($22 for two, $29 for three, etc.) They are refillable at Splash too, but not at all the spots. Splash has it's own cups with free refills that use RFID tags at serve yourself stations. I think the prices for Splash Country mugs are $13 for a one day mug (free refills that day) or $27 for the season. The SC mugs don't get discounted refills at DW.
  23. " TEMA Update on Sevier County Wildfires, 11-29-16, 8 a.m., Central HIGHLIGHTS This update corrects information indicating Ober Gatlinburg was destroyed in the wildfire last night. Ober Gatlinburg posted video this morning on its Facebook page, indicating all is OK at the facility: https://www.facebook.com/obergatlinburg/"
  24. I'm still amazed that Ober survived, even more so when I found out that escape video all over the news was Ski Mountain Dr.
