  3. Exactly. Hell, if I weighed 75 pounds and I could trounce the reservation system...? I'd do it, too. Scoring more than two rides a day as an adult wasn't easy.
  4. ^While segments of the ride use Master Blaster's technology, rest assured Verruckt is NOTHING like a Master Blaster. For that matter, I wouldn't say the ride is much like a typical waterslide. It feels more like an extreme sport experience. Whatever happened or however it did, I have to admit that Front Seat Verruckt Kiddies are essentially sandbags. They mighta loved it, volunteered for it, stood in long line--wait, a Sandbag Express Lane of sorts--but that doesn't change what they were.
  5. ^Have you watched the TV show that crashing boat scene was selectively culled from? That hill was scrapped and rebuilt entirely. The present hill looks nothing like it. Of course, they explain that in the narrative...
  6. Schlitterbahn's about innovative ideas far beyond mere waterslides. I'd drive six hours each way even before King Kaw or Mighty Mo. Eventually, we started skipping free WoF visits to pay for an extra day at Schlitterbahn. There was nothing to discuss. We just kinda looked at each other and knew what we preferred to do. I'll admit to pointing and laughing at people lined up to ride slides at Schlitterbahn KCK--but that's because I'm a bit of a jerk.
  7. I don't want to speculate about what may or may not have happened. I will say the seatbacks, while lightweight (foam?) are solid and stiff, while the rest of the boat is flexible. An abrupt change in speed for any reason could have forcibly driven the seatbacks into the other riders. That's as far as I'll go with that.
  8. Those two would; smallest rider sits in front. The depth to which an adult is 'couched' in the boat, the height of the seatbacks and the overall intensity and brevity of the experience would still limit any pre-accident observations. None of which diminishes the horror of the aftermath. I'd NEVER want to watch someone else die under any circumstances whatsoever.
  9. As with any record-breaking attraction, there tends to be a group of folks watching BUT the layout of the ride and park would make it very difficult to observe with great detail. I say that recalling my wife's difficulty spotting me during a ride. And I might be easier to spot than some. Short of a zoom lens and lightning reflexes, they're all watching from a distance.
  10. First and foremost, my deepest condolences to the family. I can't imagine how I'd feel if that was one of my daughters. To answer the question: You're weighed at the bottom to ensure your group falls within a minimum/maximum weight range. You're LECTURED while you're still on the ground. No, really. It's a safety spiel for which you're required to answer 'yes' at various junctures. After all, besides the rigors of the ride itself, there's the stairs. If you have a cardiac episode climbing them? They're not going to get to you very quickly. They wanted guests to be aware of every risk they could think of. After the stair climb, you're weighed again to ensure you didn't redistribute your group for extra speed. Smaller kids tend to get more rides than the average adult. Almost as many as they want, if they're clever. If they hang out in the standby line, they're quickly added to underweight groups. My wife and I love Schlitterbahn and Schlitterbahn loves their guests right back. It's something you feel from top to bottom during a visit. While I haven't been swift to return to post-Ferguson Missouri, the missus and I enjoyed Schlitterbahn Galveston Island on her business trip in June, missing Massiv's opening by that much.
  11. Nah. Valleyfair folk have been getting air-pushed from nearly the same height for the last 16 seasons. Windsucker's more of a nervous giggler than a high-thrill ride. Can't speak for the Star Flyers in particular. But yeah.
  12. This gives me a bit more faith. I expected a lot more from KBF/WoF's Windsucker than it delivered. Could have boarded CP's, but the previous ride was anticipointing enough for an Alicia Tyler NewwWWWWP.
  13. Even a 260 foot model would be no taller than Adventureland's. And if they're gonna start copying Iowa, then how 'bout some modern tube slides too...? (Obligatory grumbling re:more than one looping coaster goes here)
  14. Fine, I'll be more specific. What I said about Power Tower's height limited by the location they wanted to erect it--and other areas of the park that aren't limited to 275 feet? Was said by Larry Mackenzie during a Coaster Craze Q&A session. He was the VP & GM before Dave Frazier. He'd know. It wasn't said to me alone, but to all of us. It's fact. It's true. Believe it. But is it true of the Enterprise site? Couldn't tell you. I haven't a clue. He didn't tell us WHERE they could build taller things. And even if they could, it doesn't mean they will. BuuUUUuuut it's possible............................................dot dot dot...........
  15. That's probably the value of the specific permitted construction. My guess: Footings(?), electrical conduit, whatever else I don't know about that goes into the foundation of one of these things. Only question now: How tall? Iowa's already got a 260-footer. There ARE areas in Valleyfair where a 275-foot height limit would not apply. We've been specifically told so by former park executives who'd know. Taller than Power Tower? I'm guessing yes. World-record setting? Couldn't possibly tell you. Would be a great--and not terribly expensive--way to put VF on the map. We'll see!

  17. No, let's not. That park also has triple Valleyfair's attendance, 17 roller coasters and a history of multiple similar rides. Two sky rides (Frontier Lift, anyone?), two Dodgems--and that's off the top of my head. I enjoy Screaming Swings (VF's, CP's, Dollywood's, Thorpe Park's) and Giant Frisbees (CP's, PKI's) but question whether our much smaller park needs both. But there's more. Not only has VF gone without a new adult thrill ride in eight seasons, we've actually regressed. Enterprise's loss equals a total subtraction of three inverting thrill rides in eight years. Chaos and Skyscraper disappeared too. SOMETHING needs to go upside-down in this (bleep).
  18. Whaddaya mean 'copy?' WE DESERVE A RIDE WITH A NAME SUFFIXED IN -HAWK. Finally! Parity with all those other CF parks...in some fashion or another.
  19. So here's the single stake in Enterprise's infield. Not much. But there seldom is for a flat ride. This time of year in '15, Flying Cows might not have been more than a single red paint stripe. Wonder if there's any significance to the letters...?
  20. I've only been on one DoubleShot (SFFT) but it was the most fun I've had on a 160-foot S&S (et al) tower. And yes, that would include WoF's Detonator and the model atop the Strat. Galaxyland's whups both of those, but I think it's shorter (120 feet?). What worries me is how that experience would translate to a 240-foot model... and then how much they'd wind up sussing it down. I think they'd consider it, if the price of conversion was right (say, $3 million or less) and someone convinced CF it would bring more crowds than a comparably priced flat ride. But I don't think PT's really waning in popularity, is it? 'Till then, I'd guess it's a moot point.
  21. ^Visiting Knotts and actually attending the show are two different things. While there are gunshots and the occasional explosion, it's DIALOGUE driven. You don't have to hear every lyric of a song to enjoy it. If you don't hear the wordplay--and there's far more of that than stunts--the show doesn't work. Making a point isn't being 'judgy.' But thanks for proving mine. Incidentally, I didn't speak of other posters' naivety. Glass houses, I guess..
  22. They held the same shows they used to hold (Johnny Holm, other bands, a pet show) years and years after Wild Thing was built. I'm not going to pretend to be an authority, but I'd guess it was a combination of Live E's budget and the ampitheater's continued aging. If they give Ed Alonzo a bigger show budget (which he got in '14 and '15), there's no money for a show in the ampitheater, too. If this year's bike and trampoline show eats the budget, there's no money for a Galaxy Theater show. Spoken like someone who doesn't realize how much quieter sand-filled supports are. And who's OBVIOUSLY never been to Knotts Wild West Stunt Show. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google up some pics. There's a B&M practically sitting on top of it. I don't believe there's any coaster coming in 2017 either. But the ampitheater isn't the reason.

  24. If a coaster comes in 2017 (which I highly doubt) it won't be larger than an SLC or Boomerang. Which still won't make you happy. Deal with the realities! I'm telling you this for your own good. Do you know how many fresh paint markings and flags were present for Renegade by May of the preceding season? How 'bout the slides? Or even the demolition of the IMAX theater? There's NOTHING like that in the park right now. Nothing. Nothing anywhere. There's only one very small marker by Enterprise. Which might not have anything to do with a replacement flat ride.
  25. ^Construction has often started for non-coaster attractions shortly after Labor Day. More often than not, if you ask me. That sad lil' kiddie area where PT stands now was already a dirt pile by the first week of September. PT's steel structure was fully standing by Veterans Day. Xtreme Swing was both standing and fully operational by Christmas. Assuming CF's dismantling Enterprise for 'classic ride refurbishment' and placement elsewhere, there's nothing surprising about the closing date. While that wouldn't exclude long-term ground prep for a major coaster in 2018? I wouldn't read too much into Enterprise's closing date.
