I love little facts like these. Thanks! On Toro's anti-rollbacks is there tires that spin to retract them up to make the lift silent? Is that how it works on Millennium Force? When those things drop it sounds like the entire train is breaking apart. You can hear it from anywhere in the park. If I'm not mistaken the rollbacks on MF work on a magnet strip running along side the rollbacks. If the train is traveling over a certain speed, the magnets keep the rollback dogs up, but if it drops below a certain speed, they engage. It's the same on I305 as well.

There's some mechanical reasons why the lift was slowed down and why a boost function was later installed. But the ride honestly doesn't run much faster with the boost then it does without it. A fully loaded train averages 44.32 feet per second into the brake run with or without a boost. (Im not making that number up haha the computer says 44.32 almost everytime.) The only difference I've ever notice is really just the first drop. But I think the train spends more time on the unstop wheels during the first drop with a boost which detracts from the extra kick into the first drop. Those unstop wheels do not like to spin freely! I've played with them before. On the opposite end of the spectrum, does the lift sometimes run slow? We were at the park about a month ago, and El Toro broke down roughly 30 minutes before close. It re-opened, and we were on the last 4 or 5 trains of the night, some of them were cresting the lift so slowly that you could hear the anti-rollbacks come out. That stereotypical coaster "clank clank" noise. Was there an issue on that specific night where the lift was slowing down too much? Or is that a common thing.

Height limit is only around 30 feet back in that area I believe. Can't really build a coaster there. Is there a source other than a dippin dots cart that confirms that? There's a multitude of reasons that enthusiasts use to explain why their respective parks haven't built anything notable. This is when they rezoned the whole park when they put possessed in. Was that a 540 elevation limit I see? #DorneyPolerCoaster2018 Probably MSL (Mean Sea Level) instead of AGL (Above Ground Level)

Made our first trip out to the park on the 15th, overall, pretty good day, but I don't really feel the need to go back. Black Widow is the best pendulum I've ridden, absolutely fantastic. Outclasses KD Delirium by miles. The woodies are good examples of classic designs, but are overall "meh." In my opinion, each of their woodies have very good moments, but the single moments that made me go "WOW" weren't enough to make up for the rest of the ride being lackluster (See: double down on Jack Rabbit, drop out of the station on Thunderbolt, and the one hill on Racer you actually get airtime on) Exterminator was the biggest surprise of the day for me, we managed to get the car perfectly off balance, tons of spinning, and that ride absolutely hauls ass! (Maybe the high speed spinning distorted my sense of speed, but it sure felt like it was booking it!) all in all, a fantastic spinning coaster. Surprisingly intense! Kangaroo and Bayern Curve were both just hilariously fun! The airhorn towards the end of the cycle on Bayern Curve scared the absolute shit out of me, and had me giggling the rest of the ride. Kangaroo was the most ridiculous ride I've been on, honestly I'm shocked what people have come up with in regards to rides, in the "I can't believe this is a thing" sense. Sky Rocket was pretty fun, the 2nd half of the ride seems pretty pointless though. Altogether a forgettable* ride. Phantoms Revenge was very good, but not a destination coaster in the same vein as Fury 325 or Skyrush. Loads of airtime, but it's too short! It felt incomplete to me, it just needs /more/ in my opinion. All in all, a decent day, other than getting pulled over for going 8 over the speed limit on the turnpike on the way in, and the beer garden being closed all day because of the schools at the park. If you've never been, and you're in the area, Kennywood is absolutely worth a stop, would I go again? Maybe in a few years, I don't feel the need to head back anytime soon. -
I couldn't agree more. My buddy and I planned a 3 day theme park trip where we hit KD and Carowinds. After spending half a day at carowinds, and riding everything there, we decided to lap Fury the rest of the day, and head back to KD super early in the morning. We planned on spending the majority of our time at Carowinds. I want to say we came on a bad day, but the rides just weren't worth 2 days, and the abysmal operations we experienced (except Fury, that crew was incredible!) made it a pretty easy decision.

I wouldn't say HP is underrated considering just about every non-enthusiast I talk to 3 states away knows about it, and it's always insanely crowded. I keep hearing about this but every time I've gone to Hershey I've never had any issues with crowds. Out of my 10 or so trips out, it was only remotely busy once, and we still only waited 15 minutes tops for everything (Excluding Laff Trakk obviously.)

We're planning on making our first trip out on the 15th. Any particular order to avoid lines? We're figuring a Monday in the middle of August won't be too busy, but you never know. -
No. They don't pair people at Dorney. Not only is there nobody else to pair you with but it's not their policy anyway. We always joked about forcing people to ride together on Thunder Creek Mountain. Believe it or not there were a few days during the 2015 season where we had to group on Demon Drop, but grouping isn't done on TCM because of the "crotch party" issue with that ride. Nobody wants a strangers knob on their back. Crotch parties are mandatory at Great Adventure. They love a good crotch party. My buddy and I had to group with an Amish family of four (?) on Great Adventures flume. Not a word was spoken for six minutes. A ride on a flume alone actually sounds strangely relaxing though. I'm excited. As long as it's during the day it is relaxing. I took a solo ride on it after close once, it was just creepy. So quiet, so dark, empty train on steel force goes barrelling through the helix right as I passed it. It was just... weird and creepy.

You know it's funny--I applaud parks for opening rides the last hour of the day because they didn't give up and know there are still people that want to ride it. Good for them making the best of a situation. And I honestly don't find Zumanjaro *scary,* just fun and exciting. The view is astounding. The drop itself was pretty good, but I'm not a fan of extreme heights. Being held at altitude for what seemed like forever really freaked me out.

Was out on Monday and Kingda Ka didn't open until the last 45 minutes. What's the point of even opening it that late? Got on Zumanjaro and Joker for the first time though, never riding Zumanjaro again. Fuck that ride. Too tall, freaked me out. Joker was straight up /violent/ and had us both seeing stars after the first flip.

To be fair what are we supposed to talk about? They're building a new haunt building for another mediocre understaffed haunt that'll probably suck even though they can leave it up all year so it should really be amazing. Stinger is probably down for the rest of the season (I haven't been paying attention but it's a safe bet), Thunderhawk's new trains have somehow failed to draw the hordes of additional revenue we were all not predicting and there's no sign of any meaningful addition for next season. Every once in awhile another hopeless dreamer will show up talking about a GCI and what we can move to make room for it. Then we all laugh at him and crush his optimistic dreams sort of like when Charlie overheard uncle Joe saying that someone found the last golden ticket to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory but they want him to have "one last dream" but now he can't because his dreams have been crushed and he no longer has any reason to live. The only difference is that in the morning the hopeless dreamer will wake up and instead of realizing he has the last golden ticket and the other one was bull***, he'll instead be greeted with the same sh*tty dinosaur attraction and no new GCI.
