Well this might be it for us. We have had season passes every year since 2005. I had not been paying attention until Lance posted it over on Screamscape. Next year's gold pass, on sale now for $55, does not include Hurricane Harbor or Frightfest. You need to at least buy the platinum pass to include those. No HH, no FF, no HITP. Sadly looks like it is time for our family to move on from SFSTL. I have not been one of the naysayers, but I do now think our park is dying. Mike

Anyone have information on when Adventure Cove is opening in HH? We have been waiting on opening since there isn't much for our 5 year old to do without a splash zone/kiddie area. thanks. Mike

My nephew just posted this on Facebook. I did not know that they went to high school together and were good friends. I also had no idea of his years-long battle. His passion for our park and his work always came though on his posts. Such a loss for his family, friends and our park. Mike

Very nicely and politely said Kim. As to those who say just "don't go", well ... we already shelled out over $700 for our five passes and dining passes. They aren't giving refunds. Extending the passes a few months or discounting renewals won't likely do us anything for us. Cedar Fair is extending their season passes through 2021. Perhaps Six Flags should do the same? Mike

While I strongly endorse wearing masks, and wear one when I go into public spaces/stores, the minimum age requirement for wearing a mask at the park is concerning. Disney is requiring masks for children over two. I think I saw somewhere that Six Flags was going to do the same. How am I supposed to make my four year old wear a mask for five or six hours in 90+ degree heat? If he takes it off are they going to kick us out? The Zoo and the Aquarium have an age minimum of nine. Much more reasonable. I know everyone is trying to be safe and do the right thing, but making a two year old wear a mask? Anyone with kids knows that is not feasible. Mike

After starting the "can we have one train launch forward and one backwards" thread, which was shot done by those with technical knowledge, I have been advocating for turning it back to a forward launch for years. Please turn it back to its original forward launch! Mike

Also bummed about Mardis Gras. Parade, food and drinks were fun. We made sure to make it to the park for it the last two years. Mike

I agree with Zach. For those who enjoy drinking (responsibly) this is a really good thing. In addition to not wanting to power through a drink, we have young kids, so we can't have them just hanging around while the wife and I sip our drinks because we can't leave the premises. Just got back from DL/CA and really enjoyed being able to have a few drinks at CA walking around not having to pound it down. At the Disney parks where you can drink, CA in California and DHS, Epcot and AK in Florida, we have always been able to walk around with a drink. I have never seen anyone drunk at the Disney parks. I always thought SF had it backwards. Mike

I miss Dave. Over his last four or five seasons at the park it seems like we ran into him on almost every visit. He was always interested in how our day at the park was going and really seemed interested in what I had to say about the park good and bad. I have no idea who the new guys are but Dave recognized me and when we crossed paths he went out of his way to engage with me. Spent two days at Great America a couple weeks ago. I really do like the feel and layout of our park better. More gum, discarded hairbands (what is up with that?), and same amount of trash and weeds as there is at our park. Of course the steel is incredible, Raging Bull, X flight, Superman, V2, Joker (except that is a once a day thing for me). Their Batman seemed faster but maybe because it went in the opposite direction. Goliath is, well, just a bunch of fun. Mike

I miss Dave. During his last several years I saw and spoke with him on almost every visit. You could feel his passion. The park was in his blood and I am sure whatever good things happened were strongly influenced by him. Surprised no one has reviewed the new slide (unless I missed it). We went last week on a weekday (never go to the water park on weekends, it's too insane). So someone posted earlier about likely new signage. I was not there before the "accident" so I do not know what was posted before, but there are signs that state there is a 700 lb limit, hold on to the handles, and some of the other things they bark at you when you are taking off. Fun ride. There is an initial tube drop into an open slide which circles around into another tube drop which puts you into the wave wall. Once up and then down into the splash down. It is actually milder than tornado but fun because of the different elements. We got there early so it should have been a walk on, but .... Seems like part of the new protocol is they weigh everyone. There is a carpeted scale in the corner of the platform that they make the whole party stand on to make sure the total weight does not exceed 700 lbs. A ridiculously long exercise. I'm a buck sixty and my two kids each weigh under 100, at 360 we are so clearly under 700 it was pretty stupid. If you have 4 people and a couple are pretty big, sure weigh them, but this resulted in at least doubling the wait times. It was a five minute load instead of less than two like on Tornado. Waited 30 minutes and the waits looked to be well over an hour later in the day. In contrast, we did tornado 3 times in 15 minutes right after. Same loading platform, same weight limit (first time I heard it in the spiel), same rafts, fraction of the load time. We do the waterpark one or twice a summer, only on a weekday so I have to take off work. My 9 and 10 year old boys love it. As a former lifeguard/pool manager they do an excellent job with the water. Clear and blue. I agree with Teacherkim, wave pool, lazy river, Hook's all seemed well staffed as they need to be, but all of the slides seemed to be understaffed. Back over in the main park, I did Mr. Freeze for the first time in several years (9 year old is finally 54"). Still don't like the reverse launch. did it twice, once in the front once in the back for the two different experiences. Fun, but time to turn it back around. (Yo Zach!) Going to Great America this Thursday and Friday. Will be only our second major coaster park (did SFMM seven years ago). Doing two day 4 person Gold FP ($680). Incredible. More than double the cost of SFSTL and more than we paid for four gold season passes with gold season dining passes at our park. Mike

Last I heard was that the guest WAS NOT injured and the trip to the hospital was just precautionary.... but like Prozack said, measures taken due to possible civil suit Someone else posted that the rides are designed for riders to fall off the rafts and still safely finish the ride. Makes sense from a design point of view. I always thought I could do Tornado without a raft, but I do have a swimming/lifeguard/open water swimming background. KMOX radio news report quoted park officials in their report, no mention of going to the hospital, and concluded by saying no word on injuries. So unclear if it was "no comment" from park officials, or they can't say for medical privacy reasons. Touchy issue these days. My wife is saying is saying "no way" for our kids (and me) doing Typhoon Twister, citing the Schlitterbahn tragedy. We've done Tornado many times, so I'm sure we will be fine. Mike

The article says it was unknown whether or not there were any injuries. The Wikipedia page on incidents at Six Flags says the person was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. Haven't seen anything else. Anyone know if there were injuries and what they were? Mike

Yes. Replacing the speed slides. Saw the paint in the grass last summer from the Tornado queue. They had gotten really rough on the spine . Mike

When I was a kid our family went to SDC one Summer when Fire in the Hole was their only coaster. It was my second coaster after Mine Train at SFSTL. Loved it. Got back to SDC a few times for as an adult on trips to spend Thanksgiving with my ex's parents in Springfield, but before they added all the coasters. Nice park and very well done Christmas event.
