In my personal experience I have yet to have a bad experience at Darien. I don't know what it is with these people but EVERY TIME i go its juts fine. Sure there was only one train running on the coasters but I didn't notice anything else bad. Darien and Herschend are doing a good job fixing up the park. GIVE THEM TIME! Thanks

^ Though that does make sense. I would laugh if, after they approved the Ride of Steel almost 15 years ago, they decline the lake monster. sure I'd be upset. But it would make me chuckle at the thought of that. Anyways back on topic. How difficult is it to get something approved by Genesee county? Does anyone know? Just asking!

Now that I look at it I can see the Smiler comparison. I was just thinking how ironic would it be if Six Flags Just beat Darien Lake to the punchline for the record they want to attempt. Anyways still looking forward to any sort of reveal. But with all the other announcements going on, I'm rather content and ok with waiting.

Id be just fine with Cuda Falls getting the Ax. Same with Floodgate Falls. And seeing what slides other parks are coming out with, I could see the possibility of some stellar attractions added to spashtown in the future. (No set year obviously since its just discussion but If i had to guess I'd say no sooner than 2016)

Believe it or not, I dont have anything negative to say about Darien Lake. I have been visiting every year since 2008 (I believe that was the first year they were free from the Six Flags title) and I have always loved the park. even before 2008 I would go to the park maybe once or twice every other year. Sure the park isnt Phenomenal like Cedar Point, its coaster collection is yet to be stellar. but they are still good rides. Viper is a classic ride that I love, even if it gets shaky. Mind Eraser even though it is a Vekoma, Is pretty smooth for me depending on where my head is. (Because for some reason everyone complains about vekoma) I love the boomerang. Moto-coaster packs a punch. Predator... Well, it used to be fun. RoS is a favorite. even after Sgt James passed away. when that ride opened again I didnt even have to consider that someone died on the ride. I was practically the first in line to get back on! Laserblast was my favorite show ever when I first saw it. and of course, me being bias, I have yet to see a show that could beat it. theres always the finale (without the dancers and all) at Luminosity over in Cedar Point but I just love the Laser show. Ignite the Night is Spectacular. theres no other way to put it. the water cannons, the fire, the songs, its all amazing. Lastly, when I went in July, all the coasters were open, I got on each coaster, (Except viper sadly) and even rode Ros and Mind Eraser a second time. none of the coasters had more than a 15 or 20 minute wait because the operators were being efficient. Mind Eraser broke down while I was in line, they said the maintenance crew would be there to fix it in 15 minutes and they would open in half an hour... the ride opened 10 minutes after that announcement because of how quick the maintenance crew was. So complain all you want, but Darien Lake is trying. And if you can't respect that, get off of this thread, stay away from Darien Lake and move on with your life. This park doesn't deserve all the negative criticism. Thank you all. Ride On folks.

Just quoting Tony so he can possibly answer from the Parks standpoint. Will Cedar Point officially count Pipe Scream as their 17th coaster? I mean isn't the name of the ride (Generically) Disk'o Coaster? Just curious... It would be great to see the number increase back to 17. and on top of that it would make Cedar Point home to 3 Kiddie / Family coasters! I'd say a win-win (Since some people complain that too many coasters is a bad thing because theres nothing for the Kiddies). Personally I'm happy with the additions to the park. The only Disk'o Ive been on is the one in Martin's Fantasy Island which doesnt have the hump in the middle and it runs the generic Disco Vehicle instead of the Skater. Cant wait to ride! -
Had a friend who went to the park yesterday. He said practically the same rides mentioned in coasterkid124's post were still closed which is a shame. You'd think if they have major rides closed, they'd close some less popular rides and use the limited staff to work the parks main attractions. I'm not telling Darien Lake what to do or anything but Thats in my opinion. Also, as we wind down closer to September and the start of Fright Fest (Not to mention so many parks are announcing 2014 plans now... Cedar Point, Kings Island, Canada's Wonderland on Friday, etc...) I was hoping we'd start to see some sort of progress with the whole Lake Monster thing. I mean, I cant be negative about it. but i cant be completely optimistic either. I'm sticking with expecting no coaster in 2014 and hoping they prove me wrong. Because though a new coaster is long awaited. its not necessarily time yet. One more thing before I finish my little rant here. Cedar Point got Maverick in 2007, then added their next addition, GateKeeper, in 2013. 5 years apart. if this had any significance, though i Know it doesn't... Darien Lake received The Moto Coaster in 2008, 5 years later would be 2014... how cool would that be? A year off from the big boy park.. Hoping for the best in 2014! Ride On folks!

Probably a stupid question, but does the Skater Coaster count as a roller coaster? If not... Why not? Thanks! -

All is possible depending on how you view the topic. But according to coaster count, the Gemini counts as 2 not sure if this is official or anything but I counted it as 2... Happy Coasting! -

^ Saying that made me think about how Knott's announced the Boardwalk last year. Remember the Sketch? Just pointing it out, but the Preview of the people seemed alittle sketchy.. (No pun intended ) Maybe we will get the boardwalk... -

I do have to say I rode mantis for the first time this year and I was really anticipating a good ride, I say that because (it was raining on the 4th of July, 3 times i believe) and when other rides were shutting down I still heard the roar of Mantis. I assumed it was because of popularity and I enjoyed that the line was rather short. Now getting on that thing, I had no problem with head banging. The problem I had with mantis was how it painfully put all the force on my legs. It felt like the muscles in my legs were being forced down to my feet. It was right about after the 2nd loop that i Decided to lift my legs because I couldn't take the Pain. Though I did LOVE they layout of mantis (in my mind having it all compact and close to the ground makes it actually like a little insect) It was quite painful to my legs. But after I lifted my legs (I kinda crossed them under that bicycle seat thing) I enjoyed my ride. To each their own, I also rode right before the fireworks of luminosity which was cool. hearing the music and seeing the lights right before we went down the hill was interesting. No matter what I enjoyed Mantis and dare I say it... I liked Mean Streak too *GASP* Of course neither of them are any where close to the Raptor, Maverick, Dragster, Millennium, Gatekeeper, etc... But they're still fun! -
The only think involving Fright Fest that I've seen posted on Facebook is from the rUN DEAD 5K zombie race their doing. Oh and I just went on the site and found this... Lastly according to the calender, I would assume Fright Fest begins on September 7th, and continues on the first 2 sundays of September and then after the 15th switch from saturday and sunday to friday and saturday until October 12th. Hope this Helps!

Screamscape's last update was on the 19th talking about the smokehouse blues restaurant saying "Too much focus is on the Lake Monster" Ultimate Roller Coaster still has lake monster under the "Semi-Confirmed" Category... The Coaster Critic made a post in late July but there haven't been any interesting mentions of anything new or developed yet... Other than that, theres rumored orange spray paint on some of predators footers, they have been rumored to be taking surveys by the predator and blah blah blah. No pictures have been posted, no response to any emails, comments on DL's facebook page from enthusiasts go unnoticed, unless its by another coaster enthusiast, no teasers, no sign of construction just yet other than the paint... Honestly I don't see any sign of anything until AT LEAST FrightFest.

of course its the long awaited Space Spiral 2 ... the Poler Coaster making the worlds first 600 foot coaster/observation deck a reality smack dab right on the beach! There will be a $50 upcharge for the tower and a $75 upcharge for the coaster itself. You didn't expect the ride to be "Free" did you? Fast Pass is not available for the ride or the tower, but you can pay just as much to experience the ride of a lifetime! Then, in 2015, the ride will be removed for a brand new type of ride, a Wing Rider! -

One can hope, looking back into early august on pointbuzz it seemed as if people didn't want a new coaster... BUT i did see a cool boardwalk idea from someone on the site that I thought would liven up the beach some. Rumors are floating from new dark ride, to camp snoopy re-theming to CCMR retracking, Mean Streak re tracking, Blue streak retracking, Blue streak midway remodeling, Planet Snoopy & Kiddy Kingdom merger plus addition of a new junior/family coaster (such as the inverted coaster at i want to say kings island... don't be too quick to flip out if i'm wrong on that... ) and several people complaining about the ice rink. I even saw people speculating over the generic Wooden roller coaster support shown on the title image for the Blog post titled "I need your help" So it's safe to say that whatever it is, it CLEARLY is not evident like GateKeeper or Banshee were... Lastly, On pointbuzz a member who received an email from Cedar Point mentioning 2014 said "something new is coming or 2014 or SOMETHINGS!" so again. No For Sure mention as to what 2014 will hold... -

Honestly, GateKeeper is one of my favorite coasters in the park. It's unlike anything else there, it has great capacity, and it's visually stunning. The back left seat is actually pretty intense, and I love the way it yanks you over each of the hills. On the way back it slows down quite a bit, which is a unique sensation in itself. It's not Maverick but I thought it was a great addition to the park. I agree, I love Millennium, Magnum, Top Thrill, Maverick, Raptor etc... But I also love how each coaster at the park is unique in it's own way. I was lucky enough to be a rider on GateKeeper with a (wait for it) 5 minute wait on the 4th of July AS they were shooting the fireworks. Not only was that an amazing once in a life time experience (as well as probably the 5 minute wait for a brand new CP coaster ) but also, as we reached the top of the hill, right before the cars flipped, We were up on the top just long enough to look into Sandusky and see all the beautiful lights and the slight curve of the earth which is always interesting. The experience of being on a wing, and not actually on the track was really awesome to me. having 2 different ride experiences on 1 roller coaster (not counting which seat you rode in, just the side) is very unique in my mind, and the Keyhole element was very cool on its own. The only "Problem' i had with it was the lighting on the cars and on the keyholes weren't doing so well. The keyholes Uncontrollably strobed and flashed on and off while the actual lights on the trains were never always on. Which was a shame but that didn't take away from my ride whatsoever. So I was happy with GateKeeper.. maybe it was just the circumstances, maybe not. But a good ride is a good ride. and GateKeeper, is a good ride. -
In my opinion, I think (unless Cuda Falls is in MAJOR need of replacement) I would look into the SBNO Galaxy Theater and see if its worth keeping the building around. I dont think its too needed anymore, We have the smaller theater, and the gazebo and from what I heard Darien Lake has pulled off some decent shows during the day with just those 2 locations. And not to mention we still have the Amphitheater (if they still officially call it that) for the pretty stellular Ignite the Night (Which I was personally very happy with) so if they AREN'T gonna use it for their I believe 3rd year in a row... Maybe it's time to look into either renovation for a future attraction or demolition for the same thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this but whats the point in keeping something empty and never using it if all it's doing is taking up space? I mean, With a good remodel to the front and alittle more than just metal bleachers to sit and watch the shows... Maybe they could put in a really Nice show. not like the prtable trailer for Sea Lion Splash (which lasted for what, 15 minutes?) or anything like Survivor live, where the guests were the show... I would want something along the lines of Rock nation where we were actually given A SHOW or the cirque form 2008-ish. those were good shows. I'm not saying to put the Tony Hawk spinning coaster or whatever inside the building. I'm saying do some work to it, or get rid of it.

Honestly that made my day. I was just showing how many years were in between the current coaster additions at the park and mentioning how a few were only 1 year apart. Probably would've made a lot more sense if I just said it like that ...Ooopsy! Probably not gonna get a new coaster for a while but I'm still looking forward to 2014 as I'm sure most of us are -
^Well i've got something to add now! I think its just a messed up tweet but i thought it was kinda funny... I replied to them "This is obiously the Lake Monster announcement" but hey, it would be cool if it were some sort of tease. (Probably not...) I mean if it did stand for anything, what would it be?

Ok, this is both off-topic and on-topic at the same time. off topic because its not about prices at the park or airfare or whatever but its on topic because its about Cedar Point sooo Looking at the records of coaster additions i saw some fun little things to point out. (None of which include coasters that were removed prior to the removal of Disaster Transport and Wildcat. the coasters they currently have go from Blue Streak in 1964 to CCMR in 1969 which was only 5 years apart. followed by Wildcat which was the very next season. then Corkscrew 6 years later followed by Gemini 2 years afterwards. already we can note that they don't have much of a pattern. 5, 1, 6, 2, and then Jr Gemini the next season (5,1,6,2,1) next in 1985 we have Avalanche Run 6 years later. then in 1989, 4 years later, we get a record Breaker Magnum XL 200. I don't personally count a retheming an "addition" but for the sake of numbers Avalanche run re-themed to disaster transport in 1990, followed by the addition of Mean Streak in 1991 (5,2,6,2,1,6,4,2) then 3 years later we get Raptor, followed by mantis 2 years afterwards, and 3 years after that we get woodstock express. (5,2,6,2,1,6,4,2,3,2,3) 1 season passes by and Millennium Force comes in with the new Record! 2 years later we get The Wicked Twister IMMEDIATELY followed by Dragster which is left as the newest addition up until 2007 (4 years later) with Maverick. Currently we stand at 5 years with Gatekeeper making the tally of the years in between: 5,2,6,2,1,6,4,2,3,2,3,1,2,1,4,5 I know there isn't much in the means of patterns here. Its like looking at 16 digits of pi. But it does show some potential for the park. Like when we got the 2 major Coasters a year apart from each other in 2002-03 or when the same happened in 1969-70 when we received 2 more family-oriented rides. I personally like the 1978-79 Gemini and Jr Gemini additions making a pair of coasters that go together. And to top it off 1999-2000 additions once again of a Jr coaster and a Big boy ride. Maybe its just my speculation but how cool would it be if the park added just one more kiddie coaster? in the front with Gatekeeper. "lil Griffon" "GateKeeper jr"? if the new 2014 ride / attraction is family oriented this could just as well be a possibility. But remember this is just my thoughts being shared with the community, not me spreading rumors. I'd just find it cool if we got an inverted kiddie coaster... (p.s. if the numbers up top confused you or made your brain hurt at all, I'm sorry, it was all in the 'Thinking out loud' process... )
