  1. A Kings Dominion fan site administrator has confirmed it will be 8/16, but no official word on social media/media announcements yet from KD.
  2. As most have said, sad to see them go, but not surprised one bit. I'm glad I was about to ride each of them one last time last October when I was down there for HHN, and as Robb and others have said, both were still GREAT. I'll be missing a final ride by a month before my next visit early October. Although I'm sure the new ride will probably be even better than the existing Harry Potter e-ticket attractions, it's still a shame this couldn't go elsewhere because coasters like Dragons Challenge, Hulk, and HRRR are what stands Universal out to a thrill seeker such as myself over Disney.
  3. ^ Probably power. KD has had its fair share of power problems/cutouts before, especially during the peak of summer. Also, I have seen that the new VooDoo themed Haunt maze that's going in the former Club Blood/Blackout building (within Hurler) will be named "Blood of the Bayou" consistent with the chain-wide trend (CP, Wonderland, WOF, etc.).
  4. You do realize KD still receives greater attendance numbers than all of those who have gone longer and although we aren't in the era of Coaster Wars anymore, the park has never went through a coaster drought period like this before. This makes it at least 8 years in between coasters now - the previous longest gap was 5 years from 1977-1982. 2010 Intimidator 305 2008 Dominator 2006 Backlot Stunt Coaster 2002 Ricochet 2001 Hypersonic XLC 1998 Volcano 1996 Flight of Fear 1994 Hurler 1991 Anaconda 1988 Avalanche 1986 Shockwave 1982 Grizzly 1977 King Kobra
  5. This is how I feel - still really grateful for one of the best Cedar Fair parks in my home state. I still think it's the second best in the chain behind CP. However, when you don't have a child and aren't into water parks, KD has really only added Windseeker and Delirium (both great rides) since Intimidator in 2010. For locals who go 5+ times a season the lineup is for sure getting a bit stale and a new coaster is definitely needed. Another 25 million dollar coaster? No, but definitely something at least on the scale of an RMC and/or Mystic Timbers pricetag.
  6. Update: The rides will replace the current Planet Snoopy meet and greet building and Snoopy's Moonbounce. They could have at least kept those and placed these new rides where Shockwave's lifthill/drop were and created a path connecting the Flying Ace area to the Delirium plaza.
  7. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've had KD season passes for 8 years now, so next year might be the year I take a year break considering I have to drive 3.5 hours to get to the park. Although I live closer to Carowinds I can never visit that park more than once or twice a year considering it just doesn't do much for me besides the big 3 (Fury, Intimidator, Afterburn). I can drive 4 hours and get Dollywood season passes instead. This is a fantastic addition to the park don't get me wrong, but it's becoming obvious that Cedar Fair is fine with BGW becoming the leading park in the region. 2018 needs to be big for KD for them to remain a regional power. For the park's benefit, I'm hoping SFA gets scrap as usual. I'm interested to see the exact placement of these rides and if any are placed on the former Shockwave site.
  8. **Please don't be a terrible name like Mystic Timbers** **Please don't be a terrible name like Mystic Timbers** **Please don't be a terrible name like Mystic Timbers** This is the most excited I've been for a KD announcement since 2009 considering every year since we've generally known what they're getting before the announcement. Also, this is a big announcement compared to the normal online post.
  9. https://www.facebook.com/kingsdominionva/ or https://www.facebook.com/inthelooppodcast/ 10 minutes to go!
  10. Just another observation - Kings Dominion's website hasn't changed the status of Hurler. #KD2017 #HeavyLumber
  11. For what it's worth - KD hasn't really 'teased' before an announcement since 2009 with Intimidator 305 (2010) and 2012 for the bigger, better Planet Snoopy (2013). Yes, you could say this is a new era with the new GM and marketing folks, but I think whatever is in store is a fairly large capital investment. Also, like others have said since the announcement is taking place in the theater that's also more than the recent usual 'post it online' announcements. I think it should also be pointed out that besides the 'Hurler area' there have been no hints in theming either like most teasers nowadays. Yes, Hurler's theme is about as generic as you can get, but even the announcement graphic was the generic KD graphic they always use. I'm hoping if it is indeed a new version of Hurler, we see a great new name and sprucing up of the whole area (such as the new County Fair at Carowinds, Gemini Midway at CP, and Boardwalk at Knott's). Finally, odds keep getting better for KD too. No new coasters were announced yesterday (just an improved CGA Vortex) and Mystic Timbers is really cheap in comparison to the usual Cedar Fair headliner new coaster(s). Cedar Fair also said they were only adding WinterFest to 3 parks and all of those were announced yesterday (Carowinds, WOF, KI), so that means KD won't be spending money on hosting a whole new event. In conclusion, put me in the category saying "this is more than just a refurbished enterprise". Less than 24 hours to go!
  12. For those of you who don't follow on Twitter:
  13. You may want to get your gut checked out ASAP. Also, still no building permits on the Hanover County website.
  14. I wouldn't expect anything too major since the announcement is being done on Instagram.
  15. As someone who is more of a lurker than a poster these days - thank you so much for keeping this thread somewhat stable. What goes through the minds of some people about KD just baffles me to the point where I don't know how to even begin typing a response. Hopefully, all of this will be settled on August 20th... In other news - the 2016 Halloween Haunt website went live today. As rumored, Blackout is replacing Club Blood and Trick-or-Treat will be replacing Slaughterhouse. The Not-So-Sweet 16th Season of Halloween Haunt Features New Mazes and Shows Terror lurks around every corner of Kings Dominion's Halloween Haunt The creatures from your worst nightmares have made their way back to the midways of Kings Dominion for the not-so-sweet 16th season of Halloween Haunt. The frightful fun kicks off on Friday, September 30. Guests who are brave enough can enjoy nine mazes, six scare zones plus several live shows. If that isn't enough fun, get your thrill fix on more than 20 rides, including Intimidator 305 and the all-new Delirium, as fog and darkness blanket the park. The horrors grow to epic proportions at Halloween Haunt as Kings Dominion introduces two brand new mazes and two all-new shows: Trick-or-Treat It's always Halloween on Hemlock Lane. The story picks up where the Fairy Tales ended - this clan of distraught witches were given a new start in this very special halfway house for wayward souls. Throughout the years the residents have worked to make their new home a welcoming place for their next victims. It's time to find out if a treat is in your future or if it's all just an evil trick. Blackout Are you frightened of the monster that lurks under your bed? Do you ever have the feeling that something bad is about to happen? Are you worried that there is a boogie man in the closet? The things that go bump in the night are waiting for you in this darkness filled realm of nightmares. Will anyone be there to hear you scream? What you can't see might hurt you... and in this case it will! The Bone Collectors Get a taste of the French Quarter with our New Orleans-inspired brass band. The Bone Collectors are leading our last rites in this unique ceremony for the newly departed. Presented nightly on the Grande Bandstand, we will also have special appearances throughout the park. The Overlord's Resurrection The Overlord is back and spookier than ever in this new rendition of his resurrection that is sure to send shivers down your spine! Each evening as the clock strikes 7:00, he will summon his minions from the shadows and unleash them into the night to terrorize the most unsuspecting guests. Presented nightly at the Grande Bandstand on International Street.
  16. Might as well include their Facebook post too! #KD2017 Yes that is Hurler
  17. I'm not convinced this is getting an RMC treatment at all, but I think a complete refurbishment wouldn't even be worth it. The ROI wouldn't be there at all. Unlike at Carowinds, Kings Dominion's Hurler is by far the most unpopular coaster (possibly ride) in the park. Also, Kings Dominion's Hurler is in worse shape that Carowinds' was pre-refurb so it would be even more costly to do at KD. I truly believe Carowinds' Hurler got the attention first because of its proximity to Fury 325 with the hope for more riders on it. I think it's fair to say Carowinds' Hurler easily gets quite more riders now than it did 2010-2013. I also think its fair to say that if KD's Hurler opens back up with the same name and look (especially after being closed for an entire season) its ridership would be even lower even if it was refurbished. Anyways, I'm going to the park for the first time this season finally tomorrow (better late than never with Platinum season passes), so I'll be on the lookout as always.
  18. I would have preferred the name SplinterCat over Mystic Timbers, but then again this is the company that has brought us names like Drop Tower, Backlot Stunt Coaster, and (fill in the blank)hawk.
  19. From a media standpoint this is an odd time for the announcement with the final night of the DNC going on right now. Usually big KI announcements are the top story in the Cincinnati area (and all of Ohio), so I hope this doesn't get too overshadowed by all the political talk for Don Helbig and crew.
  20. It is from my understanding from the word that went around after the 2010 season is that Intamin paid for the changes.
  21. I'm thrilled with this new addition. Honestly, I wouldn't want anything else for Shockwave's site unless it were a larger coaster expanding outside the site's boundaries, but we all knew that wasn't coming. I really enjoy MaXair at CP and Delirium at KI and think this will be a very popular ride at the park. It honestly fills that last void in KD's flat ride collection. Also, the bright colors will go great in Candy Apple Grove and since we know Bad Apple is getting repainted for 2016, hopefully Drop Tower finally gets some paint too. There are many other changes in Candy Apple Grove happening next season that weren't announced including renovations to Country Kitchen, Dinner Bell, new dining patios, a proposed building where Shockwave's lift and drop were, and more minor changes. I might be biased, but I think Kings Dominion is in the lead for best 2016 Cedar Fair announcement so far with Wonderland not too far behind. I'm excited to see what the other parks announce soon!
  22. Don't forget about Thunder Raceway (Go-Karts) and Dinosaurs Alive either. Anyways, they said... So we should be hearing something by noon! Also, today marks 6 years since Intimidator 305 was announced on August 20th, 2009.
  23. Sounds like it is the same drop-box slide tower complex popping up around the entire chain (WOF, Dorney, KD, Carowinds). Hurricane Heights at KD
