  1. Gets even better! I especially love how this will help cure Tennessee of it's meth problem: News Channel 5 Story
  2. The Saturn plant is still there. GM is using it for another purpose now other than building Saturns. But yes, it's pretty close to the site of the factory.
  3. Great links, guys. Clearly it's becoming more and more of a comedy act. Yesterday I mentioned Nashville was talking about it. Today they are joking about it.
  4. Wow, this guy sounds like a winner! I have so much confidence in this happening now.
  5. I'm guessing they are different projects since the city of Spring Hill had to vote on new zoning ordinances to approve the project. What's strange is the city voted without even knowing WHAT the project was going to be. It was only this morning that the actual true nature of the project was revealed. Yeah, I guess this feels more and more in line with the other theme/amusement parks that were proposed and never came about. It seems hard to believe a large park like this outside of Florida, or maybe even California for that matter, could be built today. I will say this - Nashville is talking about it. News stations, the paper, Twitter comments and one of the sports shows was talking about it as well, though they were dismissing the idea that anybody would want to drive the 30+ miles down to Spring Hill from Nashville to visit it. I don't remember this much discussion with any of the other proposals in the past, but that doesn't mean this park is going to happen, obviously.
  6. It's not a secret that Nashville misses Opryland and there have been a few announcements about new amusement parks opening up in the Nashville-area in the past but none of them have come to the fruition. Here's another, but it sounds a bit more serious. Unfortunately there's not a lot of info as of yet but they do have a name - Festival Tennessee: Article in the Tennessean
  7. Awesome! I've wanted to attend one of these Bashes for years and finally one in my "neck" of the woods. And hash browns? How have I missed out on hash browns at SFOG?
  8. Dark rides are a great break from the heat of the day and a break between riding coasters. Two of my favorites aren't around anymore: The Speelunker's Cave (at least I think that's what it was called) at Six Flags over Texas Flooded Man - Dollywood Both of those rank well with nostalgia. Who knows if I rode them today how I'd feel.
  9. Is there still a roller coaster in Pigeon Forge? I'm not dreaming that, right? Seems like it was between the Track complex and one of the outlet malls.
  10. Ah yes, Magic World... I had much higher hopes for that place. It was mostly a facade! And yes you were to blame for me hurling and to this day being wary of the Tilt-a-whirls!
  11. I searched on Roadside America.com and there's a few mentions of the bunnies "being beaten to death". Sadly I don't think it was something as bloodless as poisoning them. I didn't realize there were two massacres, but RA.com mentions that multiple times as well. I've been to this area many times over the years. I remember an amusement park there that featured a fake mountain and lots of spinning rides. I rode one spinning ride twice in a row and ended up hurling in the bathroom. Ever since then my tolerance for those things has gone way down.
  12. Yeah, the Apple Tree Inn was right on the Parkway. I remember the Burning Bush Restaurant as having dozens of finches and being literally on the edge of the National Park. Does Bunny Golf still exist? I know there was the sad "bunny massacre" some time back, but I wondered if they ever came back with it. Seriously, this thread is awesome.
  13. Awesome thread! I have a soft spot in my heart for this area. Spent many vacations there. I swear once the original Ripleys burned down the fire spread the Ripley's seed all across town sprouting the new, bigger museum, mini-golf, an aquarium, more mini-golf, etc. Now that company pretty much owns that town.
  14. Actually what you might be thinking of is the fact that Mt. Leconte is the TALLEST mountain in the Eastern US if you measure from the valley floor to its peak. Clingman's Dome is higher, but it's really just a rise along the spine of the Smoky Mountains.
