Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
AWill961 replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why would they announce a roller coaster attraction for the 2011 season at the beginning of the 2010 season? I don't see the logic in that. I think the announcement, if there is something planned, would come near the end of the 2010 season to further encourage people to renew or buy the next season's season pass. -
I use to hate X. Perhaps back in like 2003 or something... when I wasn't that tall I guess... I couldn't bring the shoulder restraints down all the way so that my head were above them. Either that or I didn't (or a RO didn't do it for me) The ride was horrible. The first time I rode X, I thought I was going to die because my head kept banging against the restraints. Then I learned to stick my head out to solve the problem. Then I just got taller over a couple of summers and now I don't have to worry about it as I can pull the shoulder restraints down so that they're just about the top of my shoulders. I still experience rough on X2. Primarily after the last raven turn... ... (if anyone can share the same experience) --- my legs are thrown and they bounce off the seat....not fun; hurts!!! haha other than that, I don't have any other problems. what happened with the teeth? LOL... I would consider doing this if the ride was Goliath. But maybe not because it would ruin my liking for the ride. I have a play pass with parking myself; but if I could do this to get a roommate or friend of mine one, I would do it. I couldn't do it though for rides like Viper, Revolution, Deja Vu, Scream, Batman, Riddlers--- I'd probably throw up. Rides with inversions tend to get me headache-ready after a couple of re-rides. I like the heartbeating and "we are high up" when you reach the culmination of the lift hill. It really heightens the experience. I like hearing Frank Sinatra--"It had to be you..." to start things....I love the noise that takes place in the station as well.... "X2...X2.... Is Everybody In?"" all that good stuff.

Anyone know when will be the best time to go to the park around the time frame of March 22 - April 9? I was initially going to go sometime next week (March 26), which I think would be a good time, but some of the guys I'm going with can't make it then. I'm definitely going to avoid March 29 - April 2 as that is spring break for LA Unified. However, the week of April 5- April 9 sounds pretty good to me now. I'm not sure of all the colleges, school districts that have that as a spring break week aside from CSUN and Fresno (not worried about Fresno though).

I'm also susceptible to headaches (motion sickness in general). While up to now, I haven't considered skipping rides from my typical visit... rides like Batman, Scream, Deja Vu, Revolution, and Viper have the potential to get me feeling sick (headache) if I re-ride them too many times. I can't tolerate more than a couple re-rides on Batman or Scream...especially... sucks. In response to haiderodes: It means something to be able to get in all the rides when its a new park for you... but when its a park you've been going to since 1998, yearly, people have their favorites and rides they want to avoid. But your attitude makes perfect sense nonetheless.

I forgot to add that I skip Superman already. I'm going to stay away from Revolution as well now. My friends like the ride (Superman) though so I do have to ride it from time to time. But I can't believe people wait 1 hour for this thing (even though I do too for reasons I have mentioned). Also, it's quite easy to ride the 14 roller coasters in the park every visit in the summer. I do it all the time without a flash pass.

Wait... you got to go to Cedar Point and you passed on TTD and MF? You're lucky to have gone there.....

I have no problems with Viper. I don't really worry about the OTSR because I'm tall where my head is above both them. Not nearly as tall as the guys who say their shoulders touch them... but anyway.. the only thing I don't like about Viper is sometimes the bottom of the restraint will push on my stomach... I don't quite know how to explain it... but it hurts when it does that ...and from that point on (usually starts happening after the 2nd loop... I push the bottom of restraint to keep it away from bouncing off or hitting my stomach. I rode Revolution the other day... and got smacked in the head too many times...not fun. I'm still the type of person that likes to make sure they ride every roller coaster in the park every visit. But I'm getting to the point after all these years that I'm probably not going to be riding Revolution anymore...unless I'm with someone who never has. Anyone else here... make it an effort to ride every ride in the park every visit or am I just the only one?

Anyone going to the park on March 26? or the week of March 21? I wonder how the operations are going to be (aka one train for X2, etc). I'm hoping that this is the week just before spring break for most people. LA Unified gets out starting the week of March 28. Anyone know how spring break is looking for other school districts with considerable populations? Looking forward to seeing Deja Vu open again for row 16, baby!!

I thought the ride operators were friendly. I gave a lot of high-fives as well and I noticed most were clapping. Rode Revolution once and got banged up the side of the head. Damn the OTSRs. Some kid was not tall enough to ride Goldrusher and some people were getting angry at the ride operator, even though he was only doing his job and all. The kid started crying. I remember that feeling like when I wasn't tall enough to ride Riddlers Revenge, Batman, Superman, Viper, etc back in 1998 when I first visited Magic Mountain.

Here's my trip report today - Went to the park. I arrived just before opening. Stayed from 10:30 AM to 3:15 PM Season pass books are still not in. Decided today would be the first time I go to X2 first. It was a joke. 1 train in operation as EBL pointed out. The ride opening was delayed. I must have waited 25-40 minutes to the point where I got to finally ride X2 (didn't take notice of time). In the same amount of time I could have ridden Deja Vu and Terminator on my way down to Goldrusher and Riddler's during the summer. That's my reason to not listen to people who tell you going to X2 first then Tatsu is ideal... because THAT'S WHAT EVERYONE DOES. Never will I ride first X2 again. So many people go to this ride first, it's hilarious. The line was extremely long, probably a hour 30 wait by 11 (because of this one train operation). Anyways, Rode every worthy roller coaster once aside from Deja Vu, Ninja, Batman, and Superman (which were of course, closed). Waited about 40 minutes for Terminator. Riddler's - 2 train wait. Scream - no wait. Goliath - no wait. Tatsu - 30 minute wait.

Sure... if you want a hammy-down ride that CUT someone's feet off... go right ahead I'll pass. What? Really? You can't be serious? Really??? So do you not ride Scream! and Magic Mountain because it KILLED someone, or Revolution? Or Colossus? Or Goliath? Do you not go on airplanes either? What about your car? You know that there is a very good chance that more people have been mangled and killed in a car EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE YOU DRIVE RIGHT NOW than there have been deaths and freak accidents on any amusement park ride. Geez, you probably shouldn't ever LEAVE THE HOUSE! --Robb Most of those incidents that you have referenced really had nothing to do with ride itself, malfunctioning, or whatever. Not to say something cannot happen on any of our rides, but that's kinda irrelevant here... because the whole Superman ride from KK wasn't a similar type of incident as the incidents you referenced. I'm aware that riding roller coasters you assume the risk of something terrible happening... that's not where I'm coming from. Don't know where you're going with all the assumptions though... and so I digress... A ride operator getting killed by Revolution's train, because they were in the way of the train, shouldn't taint the ride. A cord shattering or w/e and severing the feet of a girl obviously does. . I'm all for getting it relocated to our park though. I'll pass, myself.

I feel sorry for those who may have lost something special and close to their hearts. I felt bad too when they were talking about selling/closing Six Flags Magic Mountain to real estate developers and to subsequently relocate rides, etc, and use the land for housing developments, etc. Good thing that didn't happen. Unfortunately that may be somewhat the fate with KK. We'll see how it goes from here on out in the coming months.

Is anyone going to try to hit up the park tomorrow? I've been keeping my eye on the weather reports. I'm going to arrive a little later in the day (probably around noon). I wonder if the park will pull what they did today again tomorrow at the last minute. I really only care to go to get my and my brother's season passes processed.

^ Would refurbishing a new ride warrant it new? From a roller coaster enthusiast's perspective? From the GP's perspective? I don't think its wrong for people to be entitled to the opinion that adding on to Superman: The Escape would be a WASTE. I've said and a few others (in this thread). @stuart -- Now for those who say SCREAM! is a horrible ride. I agree. I would rather see the park do something with SCREAM and Colossus before anything else in this park, including S:TE.

Wow. I was going to go Saturday. But didn't. I'm still going to try for Sunday. Supposedly it is just going to be cloudy then.... little bit of rain on Saturday. Good report
