  1. Looks great from here. Running tapatalk on a first version iPad.
  2. We just registered for Worlds Of Fun. First time for us , and we are looking forward to having an absolute blast raising money for a VERY worthy cause https://www.firstgiving.com:443/fundraiser/CoasterFreaks/WorldsofFun2013
  3. Count me in for a one day "join-in" at SDC if it happens. We had a great time at Texas Giant Bash last year, and we only live a couple of hours away from Branson. I sure wish we could join up on the entire trip, but the cash and vacation time are not going to oblige.
  4. Oh heck yeah! What a GREAT addition to this already one-of-a-kind park! And right in my back yard to boot! We have been on again off again pass-holders for SDC, but I know what is going into the Christmas stockings THIS year! And count me in on the TPR trip. My first and only one was the Texas Giant Bash last year, so looking forward to doubling my count at SDC! Yeah I know it's not officially planned yet, but if it happens count me in. And thanks Chad for posting all the great pics. Hope to meet up with you again this summer sometime.
  5. YAY!!!! Astroworld was my home park growing up, and Greezed Lightning was SUCH a blast! And can I hear an amen on the "lenient brakes" request? One of my biggest disappointments when riding the shuttle out at SFOG was the fact the brakes on the way back through the station slowed the train down so much I don't think the front car ever got off the horizontal. GL was allowed to travel WAY up that rear spike. What a ride! Of course, now I just have to find a way to get to Albuquerque (no wrong left turns)
  6. Hey everyone! I am going to be making a trip to NYC for a business trip in September, but the official trip will only be from Monday Through Friday. I would LOVE to add a night or two on the front or end of the trip to go ride Cyclone and possibly even Kingda Ka. DISCLAIMER:I am NOT a Northeaster and have not been in that area of the country in over 20 years ago. Naive questions ahead So those of you that know, am I crazy for trying to take an early morning flight on Sunday, then make it to Cyclone AND Kingda Ka (plus a small count of others), or am I just better off planning to be there all weekend? Also, what is the best hotel to stay at (subjective I know) out near Six Flags? I would prefer to stay in a hotel other than the one the business is putting us up in the city. Lastly, how easy is it to get taxis to take such a trip or is it just best to plan to rent a car? Thank you everybody in advance!!!
  7. All I can is "WOW!" Having only been to Coaster Mayhem before to compare to, this event totally blew me away. The ERT on NTAG was incredible, including 10 times in an hour, 4 times without getting off the train, and the final train of the night! To make it better, I even won my very first TPR Bag-o-Crap! YAY!!! Thank you SFOT, Steve Martindale, and of course our TPR host and hostess for such an AWESOME party! This was my first TPR event, and it did NOT disappoint.
  8. Wow...first the "Astroworld TR" showing off the grassy field being used for Rodeo parking, and now shots of the famed Greezed Lightning sitting in a field in neglect. This was such an awesome ride, I rode it for the first time the same day I rode Texas Cyclone for the first time. And it was my first looping coaster. It was only after riding the similar coaster at SFOG did i realize how much better a ride it truly was. Add me to the list that will be among the first in line WHEN (optimism) it gets rebuilt
  9. I was SO stoked about getting to this one, and just today I found out I may get to go! Looking at flights now, but a 5-6 hour drive would not be bad from NW Arkansas either. Looking forward to more info!!!
  10. Yeah...same thing happened here. I had all of 20 minutes left and everyone started marching into the tent one after another. Looks on the cam like the claw is dead.
  11. I grew up in Houston and when we got X-LR8 it was a pretty big deal. It was a very fun ride especially at night, but it did seem to not age very well. Still, it was a "thrilling" ride for some that were not into the bigger or looping rides in the park. That being said, I have also ridden Iron Dragon and Top Gun and believe both of them beat it, with Top Gun taking first place. The thing that intrigued me from what i read/saw about BBW was the close flybys and the drop along the water. Certainly not enough to keep me from visiting the park in the future (Nessie being another ride there i would love to ride for the historical aspect), but sure it would have been fun to get to ride it just once.
  12. This just looks all kinds of beautiful awesome! Truly one of a kind element that does give the impression to me of a cheetah running up a tree and around the branches. I have no idea as to whether they can or do in real life Just sayin'
  13. My son and I had a GREAT time at CC a couple years ago on the last night it was open that season to the public. Ozark Wildcat is a BLAST and my son loved it so much he rode it 20 (yes 20) times before they had to pry him off it with a crowbar. I especially enjoyed the last set of elements (magic carpet?) down through the bottom of the structure with no lights at night. I really liked the park's atmosphere and thought the free go-kart track inside the park was a great idea. Too bad we only got to enjoy it once before it closed
  14. YES YES YES YES! I Cannot WAIT to get back to SFOT this spring! As has been said in other posts, I was apprehensive about this at first, but seeing that 90 degree "hilltop" is INSANE!!!
  15. Thanks Shane! I have recently started trying to build up my Astroworld collection for one wall in my garage. I was just doing some Astroworld research the other night after hearing about the new carousel Worlds of Fun is getting. And I wholeheartedly agree about Greezed Lightning! Always a thrill, and MUCH better than its brother I rode out at SFOG. Nothing better than the in-station launch and the "hangtime" you got in the front seat coming backwards through the loop
  16. This was the first year I participated in a theme park halloween event since I was working shows at Astroworld's Fright Fest-good times indeed. Anyways, this weekend my son and I did Haunt at Worlds of Fun and Six Fkags St Louis Fright Fest. Haunt at Worlds of Fun was PACKED!!! But Awesome! We stayed until nearly 1:00 am and got to all of the Haunts including the "opening ceremonies". We used tickets my son "won" at Coaster Mayhem and certainly made the most of them Fright Fest at Six Flags St Louis was a little different as we only got to stay until the park closed at 8 (Sunday) and the "haunts" were an extra $7 per person per haunt. Overall we had a good time but the 5-6 scareacters we encountered were anemic compared to WOF. And I would hate to be the person responsible for getting their wasp problem in the back of the park under control. Pretty scary!!!
  17. Anyone else going to the park for Haunt tomorrow? My son and I are looking forward to driving up in the morning to be there all evening and into the night. Also, can I expect to have time to hit ALL of the "extreme haunts" in one night or have the lines been too long to be able to hit them all in one night? Thanks!
  18. Great trip report! Coming from a Native Texan who first visited the awesomeness that is Schlitterbahn over twenty years ago, the older part of park is definitely what sets it apart from I think any park that will come after it. The spring-fed (COOOOLD in the morning) tube chutes that go on forever and the never-ending shade will be very tough for someone else to replicate. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the two new areas, but nowadays a lot of those slides have been copied elsewhere IMO. And if you think the Torrent River at the NB Schlitterbahn is awesome, you must try the one at Schlitterbahn Kansas City. Seems to be about three/four times as long, with lots of twisty turns, and the waves come about every ten seconds (seem to remember the NB one comes every 30 secs or so or more). All in all, the report sure brings back some AWESOME memories for me and my family, and the new additions are certainly calling to us to make another trip back. Too bad Schlittercoaster is no more. Now THAT was a slide!
  19. How arrogant for y'all to "inconvience" those Pizza Hut customers And here I was already considering my first ever trip to SFStl in October with the kids, and then I see this museum! Start making the plans now! Thank you for all the pics.
  20. Elissa, I may be a little late jumping on this thread, but I can definitely second your feeling about Pizza Hut outside the US. When I was in Shenzhen (China) for two weeks, there was a Pizza Hut downstairs from where we were working, and i kid you not, we must have eaten there for lunch 3-4 times each week! The vast amount of different menu choices was amazing. And forget the choice of 5 soda flavors or tea, the drinks menu was longer than most entire US Pizza Hut menus. And for those who think we were eating pizza every day, you could not be more mistaken. It was very nice to be able to try different local "non-pizza" dishes and still allow those in our party who were a little less adventurous to just have pizza and salad. Just don't forget (IIRC) the Supreme by default comes with squid on it
  21. Just curious, you mentioned a price for the large soda in your report. Is MS not doing the free soda promotion anymore? Thanks.
  22. 1. What are your initial thoughts? My initial thoughts are that this is a GREAT idea and a long time coming. Great to see you have thought long and hard about it. There IS always the possibility that forces out of your control COULD turn this into another ACE, despite your best intentions. However, this should be "mitigatable". 2. Can you think of anything else we could be offering? Is the $40 fee for just one person? If not, will there be a "family" option like ACE does/used to have? 4. Why would you NOT be interested in this? The park perks would not be as beneficial to me if there was only a fee-per-member option. (see #2). I travel to parks a lot with my whole family and for me to get extra ride access without them would not be a good idea. 5. Any additional feedback you can give us based on the information you see here. Make sure the payment is via Paypal, that there is an automated renewal option, and that the coaster count view is updatable from TPR (unless this already is an option and I just don't know about it).
  23. I had a blast at this park back in May. Only park I have ever visited that stepped us through stretching exercises before riding a roller coaster (suspended looping coaster). The Mine Train coaster was also fun. Quirky though was the "Tidal-Wave" type ride that had a plexi-glass wall keeping the "wave" from soaking people on the bridge. The water cannons WERE fun to watch though I'll never forget the young lady who grabbed onto me and my friend in the haunted-house walk-through and screamed the whole way through. Not sure if she was serious or just a plant. It was entertaining either way. One last thing that impressed me about the park was their apparent lack of desire to overcharge for things like merchandise and food. Prices seemed to be on par for what you pay for things outside of the park.
  24. First off, GREAT TRIP REPORT. I really wish I could be there instead of here (no news there). May be a no-brainer, but the apparent calling of the end of the world being October 6, 2009 (my birthday) may very well be simply the current date of June 10th 2009?
  25. Oh Astroworld. What can I say? So many of my memories from my growing up are tied to this park. From my first coasters to my first jobs to meeting my first (and only) wife. Still remember getting my first season pass for thirty bucks. So sad to see it go. Glad to say I did get to take my junior CoasterFreak to the park to ride the Serpent before it was tragically torn down. My job history started in shows at Fright Nights and then transferred over to Sky Screamer / Gunslinger. I also ended up working on both stations of the Astroway (Von Roll Cable Cars) and Tidal Wave. And yes, the Sky Screamer did have a siren that would give two "woops" before dropping the car. This sound could be heard from far across the park. Not only can I still hear the sounds in my head, but I remember the Mockingbirds that lived nearby could be heard giving their rendition of it as well. Ahhhh the memories
