I will be visiting the park this coming weekend and I have a question regarding the Reds Hall of Fame Grille. How is the food there? Is it just burgers, hot dogs, and fries? Do you order your food at the counter or is it a waiter based restaurant? Thanks for the help.
The Reds Hall of Fame Grille is a table service restaurant, yet somehow quite a bit less expensive than the counter service places around the park. In addition to burgers, you can get pulled pork, wraps, salads, and wings. I've had an okay burger there before, but recent reviews have suggested worse. My buffalo chicken wrap was quit good on another visit. Last year's prices that I can recall:
Burger + Kettle Chips: $8.99
Wrap + Kettle Chips: $9.99
Pulled Pork + Kettle Chips: $11.99
Prices are not bad at all for being in an amusement park.

Thanks again Matt.

Hey everybody!
Since it's "Throwback Thursday" I'm encouraging everybody out there to "throw back" a little of your pocket change in the form of a donation. For every $5-$20 anybody throws back in the form of a donation during the next 24 hours, I will MATCH it! If any of my fellow Coasting for Kids riders want to throw some back on my page, not only will I match it on my page but I will match it on YOUR donation page as well! Triple donation action!
So if you've got $5-$20 doing nothing, throw it back! Go without Starbucks for a day. These kids will certainly appreciate it, and I will match it so the kids win even more! Come on, do it for the kids! Make me poor today! Throw some back on Throwback Thursday!!!
I just sent $20 your way. Thanks for the generous 'triple-up' offer!

Thanks Nick!
$25 is headed your way.

Aug. 12 is the last weekday of operation (other than labor day, of course).

They should have made the straight section of track preceding the 2nd lift a MCBR.
That would actually improve capacity quite a bit.

^Which on both rides has changed over the years. Originally on Beast the trains would be at the top of their respective hills at the same time. Now they have changed it and this is why the first hill is so slow. Now the train is almost midway through the helix or farther before the first hill increases speed. In the 90s it was normal speed all the way up the hill and you could see the second hill crested as you crested the first hill. Same with The Bat/Top Gun. When I operated it back it the mid 90s it never slowed down unless the driver was late bringing in the second train from the readies. Now it slows every time. I think they have changed the trigger point on the block brakes because the second train is usually clear of the readies and mostly in the station when the lift hill slows. Might have something to do with when Top Gun had the accident in the late 90s where the train blew right through the readies. I am no ride mechanic but this is my observations over the years.
Originally, to my knowledge, the MCBR shed was a block brake and could completely halt a train if needed. That is no longer the case today. This would explain the lift speed discrepancy between now and pre-magnetic trims.

^ I get that but we are also shooting for 50 plus coaster rides that day. Is there a chance to marathon Banshee and get in 20 rides on it without FL+? Banshee is about my only concern if we can get in a bunch of rides. Two years ago when we were there around the same time we certainly didn't need a FL. Everything in the park was a walk on. One of the guys going this year absolutely loves inverts so we will be getting as many rides as possible on Banshee.
Banshee will be the least of your worries. Even on weekends, the line drops under 15 minutes after about 2 pm.

I just gave $5.00 to one TPR team member at each park.
Thanks Chuck!

Just sent out 25 dollars to Josh at Valleyfair, 15 dollars to Matthem and Josh at Knott's, 15 dollars to Adam at King's Island, and 15 dollars to Teresa at California's Great America.
Thanks Dustin!

The way that mall is stylized kind of reminds me of the Opryland Hotel.

^If that pans out, I may have to reevaluate my decision not to buy the dining plan.

A couple other things. The general population around here LOVES The Voyage. I rarely hear complaints about it and when I do it's from people who don't like wooden coasters anyway. Also I remember on the behind the scenes tour Thursday someone brought up the Timberliners. Our guide said the park actually still owns and is in possession of one full train of Timberliners.... The working prototype. He said even though it was tested and ran on The Voyage track, that it wasn't a safe and good working fit for a ride as long an intense as The Voyage. So, I guess in the future HW COULD build another coaster that would make use of the one Timberliner train they still own. If they still own it I would guess it's for good reason. I don't thing the relationship with the GG is as strained as a lot of people on here make it think. They talked very highly of their ability to come back year after year to do new site surveys and do track repairs and adjustments based on their new site surveys.
It's very interesting to hear that Holiday World still has a full Timberliner train in its possession. While I'm confident we will never see Timberliners on the Voyage, I would love to see a Gravity Group junior woodie (i.e. Wooden Warrior) built at Holiday World in the future, something to bridge the gap between the Howler and the Raven.

^If the weather's nice, it shouldn't be a waste. That being said, if you plan to get there at opening, there's really no need to pre-order FLP.
-
Starbucks took over most of the shops on the left side of International Street, as you enter.
-
I would love to see some body slides (drop box, maybe) traveling through the Voyage structure, to transport guests between the two areas of the water park.

I was running a little late this year, but I am now officially signed up on the Kings Island Team! If anyone would like to help me get caught up, it would be greatly appreciated.
Chuck, $5 is headed your way. Thanks for the continued generosity.

The Banshee crew assigns seats but will honor requests. The only time I've seen them not honor a request is when the queue for the front starts blocking the main queue at the top of the stairs.

hello hello, I was hoping I'd catch myself in one of your pictures at kings island lol, I was there on opening day and had a blast, I actually passed the kid in the bright green banshee shirt you have pictured in the candy shop or whatever it was. had to tell him nice shirt because I was wearing the same one. I have to agree that the diamond back crew was pretty sad, the banshee is the new pride and joy and had twice the line, we made it through the banshee line in 13 minutes. Anyways I have a question, I have a gopro and a chest strap, I tried to use it to get some video of the coasters, instantly I was told to take it off. I thought as long as it was secured it wouldn't be an issue, honestly I felt it was b.s., anyways just wanted to ask how people get video on these rides? Will it be allowed at events like coaster stock? Because that was the whole reason I bought the camera. Also how would I prove that I was a TPR member at something like coaster stock if I hadn't received my member info by then? Thanks for the great website and news on everything, will be at holiday world for their season pass preview night, hope they will let me video it lol
Cedar Fair does not allow filming on any of their coasters, regardless of the mounting device. In fact, this is the policy at most corporate parks. To my knowledge, the Busch parks are the only ones that do (other than Disney, of course). If you try to take pictures or film on a coaster during an enthusiast event, Don has no qualms about escorting you out. (I've seen it happen.)
As for the ClubTPR cards, I'm sure Robb and Elissa will get them out before the enthusiest events start up. They have some extra time this year since there weren't any coasterboy media events this year.
P.S. Holiday World does not allow filming either.

Thank You for sharing your experience.
I understand Diamondback's crew might not have been meeting expectations, but I would consider the context of being Opening Day before going too far criticizing them. Ride crews are trained several days or weeks in advance of opening, but the training leaves out one huge factor; adding guests to the equation. You can cycle empty trains as lightning fast as possible and even open and close every lap bar and seat belt, but that will never account for the variances caused by guests. As someone who trains people on rides, I can teach all the scenarios I want to make a new operator aware of what might happen with guests, but it takes time for the operator to master the efficiency in handling different situations. Being efficient is hard to train immediately, but instead it is developed mostly over time. In other words, you learn to anticipate and address holdups before they hinder efficiency, or you learn tricks to fix things fast. One other factor is the fact that many of those crew members probably never worked a ride before or have a true understanding of efficiency coming into their job. I can also say from personal experience, after an off-season of not operating rides, it takes a little bit of time to get back into the rhythm of grueling operations. Once the crew gets used to working together and the returning employees are able to offer more help to newcomers, efficiency should improve.
Give the Diamondback crew some time. If reports are still coming back a few weeks into daily operations, then their criticism is fully justified.
I would normally agree with you as I used to work as a supervisor on a coaster as well, but there was no hustle what so ever. It should not take 5 min to dispatch a train. We did not run into this situation on any other ride in the park. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt because it was opening day, but it's not looking good.
Interesting...On Friday night the crew was flying, nearly hitting their mark every cycle. The difference is everyone there on Friday was a pass-holder who renewed before the end of last season and generally knew how to get on and off a ride.

It appears that the Coney Mall sign has been removed. I wonder if it's gone for good.
-
Is there any chance of snapping?

^It's probably just employee training. The park opens to pass holders on Friday and the public on Saturday.
