  1. For some odd reason you have to be 14 to go up the Griffion Lift, how odd when you pay adult ticket price before that, Ah well just have to wait a year.

Really?! Where did you find that out? I can hardly imagine why.

I am 14 so if that is right I would be allowed up anyway. But all the same, they didn't even ask for my age anywhere on the tour or on the website... Strange.

And I hope for your sake this tour is still going on in a year!

  2. Is the priority boarding pass the all day one not the one per ride? Its not a bad deal if thats the case considering the front of line all day pass is $40 by itself.

I do believe someone else had the same question earlier in the thread, and I answered it. But I'll say it again just for you...

You do NOT have to pay for the front of the line all day pass when you take the tour. It is thrown in. It does only include one ride on each coaster, but it allows you to pick your seat, which is something you can't do with the one sold on their website (you must sit second row). Also, I wouldn't fret about not getting to ride a ride enough times. Keep in mind the tour includes some morning ERT!

  3. I honestly think that what sets B&M apart from some other modern rollercoaster companies is that they manage to build great coasters without the size. Intamin tends to build up and up, while B&M builds out and out, improving and perfecting their elements instead of trying for new height records. I do believe they will go above 240 one day.

  4. Great report man, that tour looks like it was serious fun - totally worth the $80 (for 3 hours!). I did a behind-the-scenes tour at the Magic Kingdom about 10 years ago, but they didn't allow cameras (or anyone under 16!), and it didn't include anywhere near the detail that the BGE one did. I just love stuff like that.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Cameron.

It's funny, even though I am 14 they still counted me as an adult on the tour.

    Same at the movies.

  5. Yeah the last shot for sure got hit with a slower shutter speed and you were moving on top of it.

There were plenty of rock solid shots here, but there were a couple (not many) where I know your camera is good enough to have made those sharp sharp sharp...

"Once we were done with our Griffon ERT, we headed to Alpengiest."

    "It had to be taken."

I think the camera also chose a slower shutter speed (due to low light) which causes the slightest streak in the pixels. Those shots I think (if memory serves) had hand rails near by. Set the camera on that and snap. I know it's hard to find places to put the camera when you are on the move. But when you see that "money shot" look around and see what you can put the camera on and hold it tight to take the picture. Low light and shadowy conditions force the camera to open the shutter for a tad bit longer to make exposure. But motion blur occurs.

Remember at night, turn the flash off and put the camera on top of a garbage can pointed at a ride. If you haven't done this, it will be fun..

Take care ! Good stuff man

Wait, I don't really understand what you are saying when you are quoting my pictures. Were you saying that the Alpengiest and Rhine River Coasters shots were the ones that needed improvement, or the par to work up to? I personally am not too fond of those shots, but for the alpengiest shot I had to snap it and leave because the tour was leaving me behind.

  6. Great TR. Photos are amazing. The close ups are very juicy..!! I really enjoyed the shots on top of Griffin.

You are going to do some great coaster photography in your time.

Remember keep that camera rock steady to prevent motion blur, which will look like out of focus. I use garbage cans, fence posts, anything I can "lock" the camera down to and fire the shutter. Do this at night too, you will be really impressed.

Thank you for this post, very in depth, informative and was worth every second you spent.

Thanks for the tip! I think I know what you mean. The Loch Ness theming shot at the end. I don't fully recall, but I think I was in a hurry to get out of the park. I snapped the picture because I thought it was excellent theming and didn't want to neglect it.

  7. I was there 2 weeks ago and they said BBW was comming down after labour day weekend.

Personally I think They should take down Loch Ness. It was so rough at the bottom of both loops my neck was really jarred . still fellin the pain everyday.

Leave BBW and take down Loch Ness, thats what I say.

Yes, I am fond of both coasters :/... It's strange, one of the reasons that they are taking BBW down is that it has been around for 25 years, which is how long a coaster normally operates. The reason this strikes me as strange is that Nessie is going to be here for a while, but Nessie is older. Busch Gardens told me they were looking into a ride to replace it. They said they had a lot of options and they hadn't even come to a concrete decision about what company they were going to uses. I am hoping for an Intamin. If anyone knows anything, post it in the thread or PM me and don't forget to leave a comment about the TR

  8. Awesome trip report!

Got a question that has been bugging me for years. On Nessie, the maintenance bay is under the station. So - how do they get the trains into and out of the bay?

    Very curious!

Well, there is a transfer track right next to the brake run. The train is guided up and out of the maintenance bay onto the transfer track, which pneumatically slides into place.

And to the Loch Ness hater, try third row on the left

  9. Dude that was an amazing Photo TR. I've never been to the park but the behind the scenes pics are making me drool for it! Thanks for the unique look at the park.

Thanks! And anyone who hasn't been to BGE need to go, it is an amazing park! It certainly makes my top ten. The theming is outstanding, the lines are short, the service is great, the food is delicious etc.

Also, if you have any questions about the tour or any BGE coaster (I do know a lot about them) ask them in this thread! I will keep an eye on it to answer any question you guys might have.

    Thanks for the positive feedback.

  10. This was really awesome! I would love to be able to do something like that (nothing like getting toted up a 200+ lift backwards and walking around at the top to start your morning, I suppose!). Also, thanks for putting in those random tidbits of information, like the one about the mist from DarKastle being used to water plants. I love little things like that.

Your TR was informative, full of nerd shots that made me gleeful and despite how much you seemed worried about your pictures turning out, they looked fine to me. Thanks for posting!

P.S. I believe you did spell Immelman right...except that it's Immelmans for a plural, not "Immelman's." The apostrophe doesn't belong for making this a plural. (Sorry, it's one of those grammar mistakes that really bugs me...but it in no way detracted from an otherwise fantastic TR!)

Thanks for the tip. I have noticed a few typos and edited them out, and I will do the same with this.

Also, the reason I was worried about the way they would come out is because the morning light made the pictures look terrible and washed out on the little digital screen, and I only really glanced through the thumbnails on my computer when I uploaded them. I was worried that some might be blurry or pale, so I apologized in advance.

And yes, the top of Griffon did wake everyone up, considering it was about 8:30 am when we did it, and I had only gotten 3 hours of sleep the night before

  11. Did you get to go on the tour because of someone you knew or can anyone do it? And if anyone can do it, how much did it cost?

When you park a B&M in for the night, does it just slide back on the chassis or how does it move if it isn't using rails?

You can find all the info you need in my original post.

And B&M coasters have a high tech transfer track that slides in front of the train, then the train is pushed onto the track, and the track is put into the station. this goes visa versa when storing it...

Here's something interesting I forgot to mention. Nessie only has one break run, and only one train can be on it at a time. This means the have to load each train in under 90 seconds. If a train is taking too long to load, they will stop the other running train on the second life hill until the first train is ready to go. Running three trains, which they sometimes do on busy days, is even more dangerous. This is why things might seem a bit rushed on LNM.

  12. $80 is definately worth it! That is what you will pay for a Gold Flash Pass at Six Flags, which is the closest thing that Six Flags offers to the front of the line pass. $130 total seems like a great deal.

    Great Photo TR btw.

Thanks, and it is worth it. In BGE they make riders with fast passes sit second row. But when you take this tour, they give you a pass that allows you to sit front row! Most of the ride ops didn't believe us until we showed them the ticket. It's fun telling a ride op what to do for a change!

  13. Did you get to go on the tour because of someone you knew or can anyone do it? And if anyone can do it, how much did it cost?

When you park a B&M in for the night, does it just slide back on the chassis or how does it move if it isn't using rails?

The price that I saw on the website was $80 a person, but that seems wrong, considering Six Flags' VIP tour is around $200 per person.

EDIT: Here's the link, commerce.4adventure.com/EStore/Scripts/Skins/BGW/upclosetours.aspx, and it is only $80 a per person, but that for some reason does not include general admission and parking.

While you are right about general admission, they let us park free! And we got the closest parking space in the park!
