Yeah, I was hoping Chang would be floorless. I know, no official word yet. The ride is very rough and boring layout (well, just done too many times on too many other B&M rides) as it is. This is all nice and pretty. I hope Iron Wolf at some point would run close to how it ran when it opened. It was excellent. Now... WE STILL WANT THE TIDAL WAVE BACK! Hell, weirder things have happened. And huge kudos and hugs to Great America for keeping up the Whizzer.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Does anyone know or can tell if those trains have seat belts? Do the Maurer Söhne x-coasters have seatbelts? I'm just wondering where they are hiding, b/c the new GG trains' lap bars seem just like them. -

I agree, I really like the classic look of the GCI Millennium Flyers - but it's a trade off, b/c those lapbar really stink on those rides. I hope the bodies are molded sheet metal and not fiberglass. Having more of a bench seat would look for attractive on a woodie, but hey guess we will have to wait to find out. What about seatbelts? I talked to one of the Gravity Group guys last summer and he said the new trains will most likely have seatbelts. If so, I'm wondering how they will work, can't really see them in the renderings. -

Those things on the sides are 'grab bars' - same as on GCI Mellenium Flyer trains. They are a 'classic' feature as far as I'm concerned, which is very cool. They were on many old woodies like the Riverview Bobs, and variations of them were on trains by other coaster companies, years and years ago. You are gonna have to google it, I'm too lazy. -
The only way I can color handrails is to do it individually. I can generate handrails before 'supports' and color them, but then when I generate supports, there are no supports from the track level to the handrail (basically, I get my colored handrails, but they are all floating in mid air!) I did figure out how to color catwalks successfully, but need help with all these handrails. Coloring them individually is very painstaking... thanks guys.

^It's too bad. Seems like that would be a quick fix or patch for the program. Makes making a large out and back difficult, having to put it at an angle. I sure hope NL2 takes the time to work all this kinda stuff out. Program flexibility is much more important (to me!) than stuff like being able to walk through a swamp...

NoLimits Coaster News!
CoasterComet replied to Loefet's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
With all this talk bout 4D, flyers, etc., how bout some classic stuff?! Regular PTC buzz bars would be nice, and for whos sake how do we get rid of the orange 'grab bar' on the wooden coasters? All that modern ptc stuff is lame... Some old classic wooden coaster cars would be great. As well as Arrow cars with no shoulderbars. Even if it were the Phantom's Revenge train, that would be pretty cool! -
Does anyone know an easier way to color wooden coaster catwalks/handrails? The only way I have figured out how to color the handrails and catwalks specific colors (a color different from the main structure color) is to individually click on them and choose 'individual color' and the color in the little box that pops up. Seems there should be an easier way of doing this, but I can't find it...

Hmmm.. yes, it is VERY nostalgic for me! I wouldn't ride it until I was 12 (1985) because of the reputation (overblown) that the first drop had. I was really scared of it! I think calling is a pretty damn good woodie (RED side) is fair... I've been riding it all summer and it is certainly better than the slew of other big a$$ woodies we have - the Beast, Colossus, Mean Streak, Texas Giant (in it's present state)... I would even say it's better than the John Allen racer's (in their present state with retracting belts and pinning lap bars). One thing real nice about the Eagle is that the lap bars don't fall. They still aren't buzz bars (which the ride had until the early 80's), but they are a hell of a lot better than most all the PTC ratchet bars. As a side note, and a very good one, the Viper at Great America also has specailly equipped lap bars that do not fall down. In fact, they can only go down to a certain level - so it's impossible to get stapled on that ride. Very cool decision on the parks behalf, I would suspect. HEY, thanks for the pictures btw! I remember seeing pictures of that model! Very cool.

This ride is running better than I ever remember it. Maybe not as good as 1985? Yeah, probably better than then too. Does anyone have old and or construction pics of the ride? I've been looking all over (and have found a couple, including in coaster books) and would like to find more. I'm working on a Nolimits accurate re-creation and need some clear pics of the ride (and before the trees grew up around the south side of the ride). Any help would be great! I really think the ride should be the crowning jewel, the pride and joy of Great America, as it once was. The way it is now, the walk to get to the ride, and years of bad reputation (rough track), prevent that. I think SF needs to give the ride some major TLC (READ: NOT speakers and a bizarro makeover). I've got some great ideas myself. The ride itself, is fast and has plenty of airtime on the red side. Also has some slamming, but that could be taken care of.

Mark's Postcard Paradise
CoasterComet replied to thrillerman1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I encourage those of you that have a post card collection, no matter how small or large, to share them with us. This can be an even better thread if we get some more contributers... Now get scanning! Here is a great old card from Cedar Point. Wow!!! Is that lime green track on the Blue Streak in the background of this postcard? http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46005&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=140 When I worked on the ride 92-93 (RIP), there were spots in the station where a lime green color was showing up below layers of old paint. Now I'm wondering if the track was that same color... anyone anyone? -
Im not quite sure what you meant, but if you mean you have to pull the lap bar down your self instead of the lap bars falling on you, then Cyclone at SFNE does that, Comet at TGE..the only coaster I've been on where they fall on you is Predator. Ew. I'm pretty sure Viper has the only 'special' (in-house or special, one time PTC thing) shocks that keep the bars from falling down. Here's a picture: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=55285927&albumID=1340301&imageID=20360158 Most other PTC 'ratchet' bars have fallen down on me. Loose springs, etc., they seem to all fall. Even when Hades and Voyage were brand new, the bars (if you didn't hold them 'up') fell down. You would be 'pinned' by the end of the ride.

I would hold my opinion until I get a ride on these suckers. Look at the new Intamin trains (Superman, Millenium Force, etc.) The trains look cool, and those are great rides, etc. They feel very 'open' and you basically don't feel the track, wheels, etc. You feel like you are 'flying.' Personally, I MUCH prefer a ride on the Mindbender or Shockwave. Like PTC's, they are basically a 'box' - but they feel like you are riding a ROLLERCOASTER... and you get REAL airtime, not just 'uplift' forces. I think each ride has it's place. Comparing the new Intamins with the old isn't fair for now - they are totally different experiences. My worry is that we would get a new coaster like Mindbender (hope hope) but with the 'new' trains that limit the experience, IMO. It's basically an exchange... you feel (and it looks) more 'free' but in reality you are more constrained... And as for VIPER getting new trains at Great America - those trains are special - they have return springs to keep the lap bars up. Only that ride and the American Eagle are the only PTC trains I can think of that you actually have 'pull' the lapbar down - it doesn't come down during the ride. Viper runs pretty damn hot - and has an INCREDIBLE 'Herbert P. Schmeck moment of torque seat' if you ask me I wouldn't touch it...
