  1. Going off of my iPod since I don't want to be doing this forever:

Aquabats- Kind of weird but a lot of fun both live and on CD.

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (BOTAR) - punk / ska but acoustic and with instruments you wouldn't expect, like cello and french horn.

Chumbawumba - The one song you know of theirs isn't their best.

Dr. Octopus - good ska from down under. Guess the being down under part doesn't help w/ success stateside.

Edna's Goldfish - little emo every now and then, but incredibly catchy upbeat music.

The Forces of Evil - ska super group with most of the musical talent in the genre in one spot. Great horn players.

Goldfish Don't Bounce (GDB) - local reggae group from Las Vegas, but really good stuff. Girls Aloud a close second. They're huge in England, but how 5 incredibly hot women singing catchy pop music hasn't hit big in the states is a shock.

The Hippos- a ton of radio friendly songs and a song I think most people would enjoy.

Iron & Wine - comes up on pandora enough, and is pretty big, but don't hear them on the radio too often. Also a shortage of bands on the iPod that start with I.

Jefferies Fan Club - the most I've ever heard of them was in Disney Channel's Johnny Tsunami.

Kara's Flowers - on a technicality. They became Maroon 5, but the previous band was a little edgier and still as good.

Las Vegas Brass Band - British style brass band with a ton of people from the strip, local schools, UNLV, ex-professionals...if you're ever in Vegas check them out. The shows always have a good mix of humor, jazz, and classical music. Helps that I was in the band.

MC Lars- he seems to be gaining steam w/ commercials on G4, but I don't think there are too many people that can rap cliffsnotes for Hamlet and Moby Dick and make it sound good.

Natalia Imbruglia - wow I thought "I" was sparse. Ummm...her stuff in the 90's was pretty good and she was cute.

OK Go-as soon as their video with the treadmills lost its allure they seemed to disappear despite the fact that they're a good band.

Patent Pending - great bunch of guys and great live shows.

Reel Big Fish - Big in '96 but not so much after that. Absolutely great concerts and fun music.

Suburban Legends - I'm not as much of a fan of their last two albums, but they are the hardest working band I've ever seen. I think they played over 600 shows in a year thanks to playing at Disneyland rather consistently. Great live shows.

Transition - downloaded them a while ago and had that polished garage punk sound that would seem to push them to stardom.

U2 - ummm yeah I'm not even sure if I know who the other bands I have on the iPod are

Vengaboys - Come on Mr. Six dances to them, they have to be bigger right?

Westbound Train - very relaxed ska / reggae with one of the smoothest sounding vocalists I've heard

Yelo Melo- French ska. Its catchy why not.

Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer - good catchy music, even if the lyrics make absolutely no sense 90% of the time.

  2. I've only got FIFA '07 on PS2, but its a great game and I play it often. The goalkeepers all have closed head injuries and there are some details that always tick me off, but over all a good game. I like manager mode a lot (especially since Theo Wallcott is on my team and is now rated 99/100 ). I don't generally see the point in getting new versions of sports games unless the gameplay changes in a good way or new features are added. Otherwise I'm out 50 bucks for the current team line up and new uniforms.

  3. I noticed both of those things, but never though that the cube was sponsored, but now it makes more sense. As long as they dont get too obtrusive I dont really mind the product placements if it keeps good shows getting made.

The only thing that made it stick out is the camera shots when they were pulling up in it. If it was a 1980 Toyota Carolla, the shot would probably be worlds different. Nothing as blatant as Nissan Versa! though.

  4. When did you go to the Dallas stadium? Looks like it had to have been before the World Soccer Challenge since its set up for soccer. I actually went to that Chelsea vs. Club America game, but never managed to post a TR due to school induced laziness.

Kind of a rip off to pay $29 to watch the game on a bunch of tv screens since you can't really see the field unless you're the first ones there.

  5. I haven't been on SCBB's, but I do really like BP's Giant Dipper. I think it was my first wooden coaster, but I also like the layout. No the airtime moments aren't ejector air, but I just like how none of the hills are really straight until the last trip around. The first drop is really fun and the ride is just plain fun. I can see SCBB's being better based off of air etc., but BP has a pretty decent ride on their hands too.

  6. I'm not really sure that theme parks are a major source of income for Marvel. I'd guess its the comics, the tv shows the movies... While I do see Disney capitalizing off of the rides at IOA or forcing them to retheme them, I think its the brand they are after. If Disney knows what they are doing they will let Marvel be its own thing and let combine their resources etc. Superheros just wouldn't work following the happily ever after model of Disney, and with the vault of characters Disney has I'm not too sure they need to incorporate Marvel into a park to make the acquisition make sense. I'm just hoping this wasn't all to make Hannah Montana comic books across the globe.

  7. I'll go against the grain and say go with the Dell. The computer I use right now is 5 years old and still works. The main thing with Dell is the warranties are worth their weight in gold. I think aside from the plastic shell and the screen that I have an entirely new computer. I've had some bad luck with computers so I've had hard drives die, but that happens with laptops and a few of them were due to someone walking across the power cord and ripping the thing off my lap which killed it. The warranty I had was a 4 year warranty and you could run over the laptop with a truck and they'd replace it no questions asked.

  8. I don't know why you would necessarily want this to be like MF. As its currently running you can get airtime off of maybe 2 of the 3 hills after the lift. This has the ride listed as having 6 instances of airtime and just because they aren't profiled to be the standard bunny hop airtime hill, doesn't mean they won't deliver. This should be going through the layout much quicker since the first drops are the same height and the second hill on this is 32' shorter and a lot sooner in the layout.

Don't get me wrong, I love MF, but if they built a clone of it or added a whole one or two bunny hills before or after that last overbank, I wouldn't be thrilled. I'd probably go because I needed the credit, but it would be on the same level as going to KBF and riding Boomerang despite the fact that I've been on the ride before. Not to say that a clone of MF wouldn't still be the best ride in the park, but it wouldn't be a different experience. Sure I'd love it if this ride was a few thousand feet longer and had a quarter mile of nothing but bunny hops, but this has a pretty good shot at being good.

  9. Ummm... I'm not sure its feasible to do a whole lot more than TTD and Kingda Ka do when you go that high. Sure you can build a vertical lift to save room, but the size of the layout is going to be huge so you can make any transitions gradual enough to handle the speed. While we can theorize and make nifty models in NoLimits or RCT or whatever, people don't generally consider how much dough it takes to actually make what they build. I can't think of many parks that have the cash or the space to beat a giga coaster without it being Kingda Ka + 10mph and another 20 ft.

  10. I'm not sure how high that second hill is considering they list the other hills at being 150 ft, which can mean total or maybe they are only counting the second hill in that. Regardless,

    MF: 1st drop: 300' 2nd Hill: 169'

    I305: 1st drop: 300' 2nd Hill: 150' max.

and keep in mind that Intimidator will have much less track before hitting that without an overbank. There ought to be more airtime on that thing than the video shows considering MF at least used to have some floater air on the second hill. The other hills look to have a great profile for air considering how fast you ought to be going in some of the views too.

Edit: Oh and the the construction will be interesting as several people have said. I doubt they will build it like a cable stayed bridge since that generally involves having cables you want to keep there, but it is possible. Its possible that they also just designed the track for construction loads, which you have to do with practically every structure anyway. If they use 2 cranes since they have 2 big towers, they could just use it to support the weight of the track hanging out there, but that seems rather expensive unless the lift hill goes up in a week or so and then one of the cranes leaves.

  11. Why did it have to be OTSR's? The layout looks awesome. Not that impressive at first glance but it is going to have a Maverick feel to it since there doesn't seem to be another hill thats half as big as the first drop and tons of back to back turns. The airtime on some of those hills is looking to be throw your crotch into the restraint ejector air. Can't wait to ride it!

Oh yeah and as for the supports, it seems like the track has been built to be rigid enough to span that kind of distance between those supports, which I think is pretty damn cool from a structural point of view. Not the easiest thing to do, but probably saves on material.

  12. Having gone to college in St. Louis, City Museum is by far one of the coolest things to do in STL. You missed what is probably the best slide in the place by not crawling over that arched tube of death out in MonstroCity. The key to City Museum is to wear some form of slick pants (workout shorts, track pants etc.) so you really get going on the slides. The place always changes so its great to go back to. I think the scariest thing I've done there is actually a tunnel along the row of benches by that whale that goes under the walkway and shoots you out on the other side of the room.

Oh yeah and the rest of the parks looked great! Makes me want to hit up the midwest again sometime soon.
