TBo Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hello everybody, In the month of June I will be visiting New York City for 5 days. I come from Europe, so it is a big journey for me. Since I'm also a themepark/coaster fanatic I would love to combine a trip to a themepark not to far away from te city. After checking TPR and RCDB it is very clear to me that Six Flags Great Adventure has the most impressive collection of coasters. Therefore I would like to spent a day in this park. However, I won't be able to rent a car in the USA (I'm 24 years old and I believe the driving age for rentals is 25). Does anybody know if I can get to SFGA from New York City by public transportation? And if so, does anyone already experienced going to Six Flags Great Adventure by public transport? If anybody has any additional tips/recommandations for me to maximize the fun on my day at SFGA, every tip is welcome. Thank you guys for helping me!
larrygator Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) It is possible to get to the park using public transportation from New York City or Philadelphia. NJ Transit sells combination bus ticket/admission ticket from NYC Port Authority Bus terminal - New Jersey Transit Bus Route 308 goes to Great Adventure with one stop at Penn Station in Newark. www.staging.njtransit.com/summer/greatadventure.htm www.njtransit.com/var/var_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=SixFlagsServiceTo Edited April 14, 2010 by larrygator
cfc Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 According to the park's Web site, there is regular bus service from New York City: http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/info/directions.aspx (just scroll down to the bottom for the info). I have no idea how dependable this service is.
downunder Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I've used the NJ Transit service and it worked fine for me. One tip, once they fill a bus you have to wait for the next bus, so I recommend getting there early and lining up at the gate.
TBo Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 Thank you guys for this information. I've used the NJ Transit service and it worked fine for me. One tip, once they fill a bus you have to wait for the next bus, so I recommend getting there early and lining up at the gate. Alright! Good to know that I can rely on this service. But how does it exactly work? On the internetsite I find that there is only one bus departing at 09h30 in the morning. Do I have to make a reservation? Or do I just pay on the bus? Or are there more busses making the trip to SFGA daily? Thank you for informing me. It is highly appreciated!
downunder Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I checked the website, they don't have the actual timetable up for the daily services in June yet. I found I got the same information on the summary page, but I found by accident that the buses ran from 7.30am in the morning in summer. As far as bus tickets go, I didn't need to pre-book, I just went up to the NJ Transit ticket window and brought a ticket. When I was there they started selling tickets from 7.00am and then I went straight to the gate and lined up for the 7.30am bus. If in doubt maybe email NJ Transit and ask them.
