Skyscraper Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Hi everybody ! I need help for choosing a park for a weekend trip in the usa ! The park(s) must be open on weekends of november or december. Could be anywhere in the USA, except Hawaii and Alaska. We want new credits, so California, Las Vegas and Florida are out of question. Anything out there worth it ??? We are thinking of Six Flags over Texas (operating hours are very limited) and or Sea World San Antonio... any suggestion, any open park is welcome ! Thank you
ParkTrips Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 SW San Antonio closes in late November.. doesn't it? With the limitations you set, you don't have many choices. SFOT, Dollywood, Silver Dollar City..... and that's about it I'd pick on of the latter two parks only because SFOT will have rides down for winter rehab and I personally think Dollywood kicks ass, and people generally say the same about SDC, so there's my take.
Skyscraper Posted October 27, 2005 Author Posted October 27, 2005 I'm not sure Dollywood or Dollar city are really worth it... maybe Dollywood would be a great choice. Thank you for helping me Park trips ! If anybody has suggestion, you're welcome !
CoasterFanatic Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Since you have ruled out Florida, Vegas, Cali, Silver Dollar, and Dollywood ... enjoy your trip to Texas!
coaster1 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 SFOT doesn't open back until the end of November and SeaWorld closes right at the start of December. So, with that said .. enjoy the half park operations of SFOT and their short hours of 4-10 and 4-9 on weekends. Also SDC and Dollywood will run rides, but if it's colder than 40 degrees, you won't be on anything since they shut down their rides at that point, at least SDC does, I would assume Dollywood would operate the same way.
Bubba Z Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 I enjoyed my trip last year to Dollywood. It's really nice when the holiday decorations are up. They also have great food, shows and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. We also experienced light crowds and got in 15 laps on Thunderhead. Plus if that's not enough you can go to Gatlingburg for the alpine slides or the indoor skating rink. Then there's plenty of other odd things close by as well to keep you busy like 3D movies attractions, Ripely's Haunted Adventure, Nascar Speed Park, Horseback riding, Diner shows, and of course Cooters Place from Dukes Of Hazard. Here are other things you can do as well .. http://www.gatlinburg-attractions.com/ http://www.pigeonforgeonline.com/attractions.html If it is a credit run do Six Flags, but if you wanted to make a weekend out of it I would say visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Again check the weather before you leave, like coaster1 said, if it's under 40 degrees they won't operate the coasters.
coaster1 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 Here's an example of what will be closed at SFOT: Roaring Rapids Splash Water Falls Log Flumes Texas Giant Oil Derrick Batman The Ride Mr Freeze Flashback Texas Chute Out Kiddie Train Other rides SHOULD be open, but weather can affect that like rain, snow, ice and super cold weather. If it's under 35 degrees count on closures of: Superman Tower of Power Shockwave
Skyscraper Posted October 28, 2005 Author Posted October 28, 2005 Thanks you for all your advices. I think I'm not going to SFOT of SeaWorld SA, they seems to be close and or have really limited operations... Dollywood seems to be the place to go but if they close their coaster under 40degrees, it seems to be a problem ! I'm not sure I'm willing to take that risk... i have to think about it... Thanks you guys ! I'll let you where I'll go !
