chuckyb221 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I am working with a group to bring a theme park to Las Vegas and wanted to get the opinion of the community here at Theme Park Review. Why Vegas? Why Now? Local population of 2 million. Over 40 million tourists every year. Tourists only gambling an average of 2.6 hours a day. 8% is the proportion of visitors whose primary purpose for visiting is gambling. Now spend more money on food & drink, shopping and entertainment than gambling. People are not coming to Vegas for the gambling anymore, but an integrated entertainment experience. This project would be about 15 minutes south of the Las Vegas Strip. The land is available and cheaper than being right on the Strip. The opportunity cost is too high for land on or right off the Strip. In the summer we are looking at extended hours. 9am-10pm the park would be more family friendly. Then from 10pm-6am the park would take on a more party atmosphere. We are also dealing with the heat by using larger show buildings for ride queues. As for theme, it will probably be music. What do you think? Opinions?
tarheel1231 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Kewl. I don't live in Vegas (or anywhere close to it), but this sounds like a really cool idea!
Double0Kevin Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Theme parks have tried and failed in Vegas. You have to really find a way to beat the heat, people don't want to be in it at all. Thats why the Adventuredome works, it's always cool. With the park being closed from 6am to 9am only, the rides will suffer with a lack of maintenance. The 40 million tourists don't want to leave the strip. This is why hotels off the strip have to try so hard to get the guest over there, even Rio that is just across the freeway. You would have to offer a very good, very accessible product to have a chance at succeeding.
robbalvey Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 We see projects like this in "blue sky" development all the time. If you are really a legit developer, please contact me at robbalvey@themeparkreview.com with more details and we can discuss then how you might be able to get some data from our members. With literally hundreds of different park projects we've seen get shelved over the past decade or so, we would want to make sure this is actually *REAL* before we would have to have a proper discussion about it. Thanks for your understanding. --Robb
