StewTx Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 This is open to anyone, but of course the expertise of the Alveys would be most welcome! My fiance' and I have started talking about honeymoon planning for October 06...she wants to do something different and would like to go to one of these parks and the surrounding parks/history attractions that are near them. If you had to choose one or the other, would you head to VA or PA? We've never been to either, so both will be a first time experience. Any thoughts, recommendations, info, or opinions will be most appreciated! Thanks in advance!
CoasterFanatic Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 For a honeymoon type thing, I would definately go the Williamsburg route if it has to be one of those two. If you are looking for complete pampering (more than parks and history), you may want to look into the Hotel Hershey.
Meteornotes Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Well, if you're looking at October, I don't even think Hersheypark will be open. If it is, it will be limited operation. There's probably more to do in the VA area than the PA area, though if you could let me know a bit more about what sort of things you like to do, I could offer suggestions, as I'm really familiar with both (lived near Hershey for 26 years). dt
SonOfBeastSucks Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 As far as parks go, I would say HP. BGW is also a nice park but I like Storm Runner better than anything at BGW.
StewTx Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Well she's into parks and coasters some, but absolutely loves history...main reason she chose those two parks because of what is all around them history-wise. I'm more into the parks and coasters, but am a history buff as well. We aren't looking so much to be pampered as we are to stay some place nice, have fun at some parks, and be able to enjoy some historical stuff as well. We know the parks will be only open limited hours with it being October, but that's ok because it's not a "coaster only, go for nothing but credits and spend 10 hours at the park" kind of trip. Thanks for the responses already, and anything else is very welcome!
Teddymonster Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Well she's into parks and coasters some, but absolutely loves history... Stop right there...BGW is your winner!
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 ^ I'd have to agree. In looking at our VA trip and trying to fit in something "Historical" we couldn't narrow it down. So we are just skipping all historical stuff and planning to do a "Historical Coaster Trip" next year with the kids.

I think your kids will get a kick out the blowing glass demonstrations they got going on in historical Williamsburg.
Mind Eraser Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 I live a couple hours from both parks. Personally, I enjoy Hershey more, due to ride selection. BGW is absolutely gorgeous; but in my opinion, it only has two excellent rides - Apollo and Alpengeist. Hersheypark has a lot of charm, and a wonderful selection of coasters. Also, there is Chocolate World, for those who like history (and chocolate!).
Meteornotes Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 As far parks go, Hershey blows BGW out of the water. More to do, and more fun in general. Sure, BGW looks nice, but there really isn't anything amazing there (yeah, Alpengeist is tall, but is braked to hell). As far as history stuff goes, well, BGW is in Williamsburg, which is packed with stuff to do. If you end up going there, you MUST eat at The Trellis! Aside from really good food, it's the birthplace of the "Death By Chocolate" cookbook, so you can just imagine what the desserts are like! Hershey is not too far from both the PA Dutch country and the Gettysburg battlefields. Both of which are interesting if you're into history, especially the battlefields if you're at all interested in the Civil War. For history stuff, I'd probably pick Williamsburg, especially if you've never been there, but both areas are pretty cool from a history perspective... dt
