harper83087 Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I apologize if this has been brought up but my 1/2 hour search came up with nothing of the sort. I'm thinking about making a wet n wild Phoenix day this weekend with a group of friends. I've stayed away from this place because of crowds and the fact that I'm not too big on waterparks, but Ive been itching for a slide for some reason. For those of you here in the valley or are in the know on this park what can I expect crowds to be this saturday 8/12? I know it's safe to assume it'll be crowded as it's the desert on a hot summer day but I remember hearing when the park opened the crowds were insane, as in up to more than an hour for slides. Also any tips for a newbie to waterparks like me?
QueerRudie Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 YES. Expect it to be something beyond insane, and that's to be polite. For the most part, WWP is a great park, and a good time- but expect to wait for upwards of an hour for some attractions, although they are good at keeping things moving- it's just that popular. Most of the 'midway'' areas are covered with canopies, which helps with some of the sun, but entry queues and pathways are often exposed- use your best judgement over that. Food in the park is sparse, with not a lot of options; I reccommend heading north away from the park to find food- there are plenty of fast food (and not-so-fast food) options just north of there. RENT A TUBE EARLY! They are notorious for selling out tube rentals due to the crowds!
harper83087 Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 Would you suggest BigSurf or Golfland in Mesa as a better option? I picked wet n wild just because of the slide selection.
QueerRudie Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Golfland is OK- but not the biggest- you sometimes feel like you're tripping over other people due to the slides being close together- but not a bad selection there (I'm in the NW valley, so for me Mesa is an hour or more by car- if the 101 and traffic allow... I've yet to do Big Surf, so I can't comment on that- but for overall 'feel' I'll take Wet and Wild- as it's really a decent waterpark- just reeeeeaaaaly crowded.
