Amusement Rides and Motion Sickness

While I personally do not suffer from the curse of motion sickness my friend who will be going to Canobie with me this weekend is afraid he will. His last amusement ride experience was on a fair ride several years ago that left him feeling ill for hours. I want him to be able to enjoy this trip (without skipping all the rides) seeing as he agreed to come with me ... so I was wondering if anyone had any tips.

Has he tried taking Dramanine?

He claims he doesn't get ill in cars or on boats ect so he has never had to deal with it outside of that fair ride several years ago. We don't know if that specific case was a one off thing or if we are in for a miserable day(I hope not). So I am trying the error on the side of caution if nothing else. I know he is going because I enjoy it and I would hate to be riding alone while he just walks around the park with me.

I never get sick on coasters but this year at the fair I started to feel nauseous on a few of the rides and had to take frequent breaks. Same with my friend who came to SFDK with me this year. Fair rides are very limited about what they can do and most of them go in tight dizzying circles. Plus, fair rides usually don't have a very long wait so it's easy to pop between rides quickly. Your friend will probably be fine on the coasters.

 

Maybe make sure to drink plenty of water, don't have a lot of greasy food, and don't go on a bunch of coasters directly after eating. Take it slow to see how your friend will feel.

This. And there are also those motion sickness patches that I'd recommend looking into. Some of our trip participants use them, and I see people use them on cruise ships all the time.
