New Amusement Park Proposed for Dallas, Texas

I came across this while surfing the web a while back and just realized it wasn't posted on here.

 

In 2012, The State Fair of Texas plans to unveil Summer Place Park.

 

Summer Place Park will be an amusement park complete with a log ride, boat swing, high-dive show, Gulf Scream speed boat ride, sky coaster, and a variety of favorite State Fair games and concessions.

 

Think of it as a touch of State Fair ... all summer long.

 

Soaring over Summer Place Park will be the new 500-foot-tall “Top of Texas Centennial Tower.” The Tower will provide visitors with a 360-degree panorama of Dallas and will be open to the public and available for private meetings and receptions. The base of the tower will be home to a new museum showcasing the most extensive collection of memorabilia of the State Fair and the Texas Centennial Exposition of 1936.

 

Of course the Texas Star® Ferris wheel and the Texas Skyway will also “star” at Summer Place Park.

 

This strikes me as really interesting. Surely the proposed park would need more large attractions (a coaster) than that to survive! What do you guys think?

I like this idea, and what they have proposed sounds like a pretty good start. I imagine they would consider some more rides (a coaster) in the future should this move forward.

Hard to fathom a group of investors wanting to do this when a giant city, sitting just a few hours south, sits with barely one amusement/theme/state fair-type park. Right?

 

Interesting concept, it's just amazing to me that a town (however crappy it may be) like Houston still doesn't have a full blown park. Guessing that might be different if the economy hadn't taken a dump.

 

Wonder if this will go anywhere.
