robbalvey Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 General Rules 1. Be as nice as possible. There are some really, REALLY stupid people out there in the world, and unfortunately, a lot of them end up posting to the forum. Call out their mistakes, but try not to be too rude about it. We don't want to be like CoasterCrazy where all they do is insult each other. Even if you have to edit 100 idiotic posts in a day (god I hope that end-of-the-world like day never comes!) remember that it's not that person's fault there 99 other idiots in front of them. Just try to keep you cool! 2. Quote the posting rules or TOS. When you edit a post, let them know what rules they have violated. Editing posts 1. As a games forum moderator, you will be able to see the "edit" button on every post. Simply click the button to edit the post. 2. When editing a post, you should always put "MOD EDIT:" in front of what you are saying and then your name afterwards, for example "MOD EDIT: Please use proper grammar and spelling as stated in the posting rules. --Wes" 3. If a post has one or two typos I would worry about it. I think a few here and there are totally acceptable. It's when a post starts getting hard to read, or other obvious mistakes, like spelling errors in a topic title, that we should edit them. Other topic/post functionality 1. Locking Topics - To lock a topic, use the moderator pull down menu at the bottom of the screen and select "lock" and click ok. Reasons for locking topics: If a topic is a repeat of another thread, post the link to the topic and lock the thread. If a thread has gotten out of hand with either flames or mass stupidity. 2. Deleting threads or posts - Clicking the "X" button on a post options bar (edit, quote, etc) will delete that post. If a topic is way out of line or beyond "PG-13." If you feel it's necessary, please PM people and politely explain why their post has been deleted. People don't like to have their posts edited or deleted, so be nice, even if you want to reach across the world wide web and strangle them to death!!! *NOTE* if we have had a troll sign up and they have only posted once, if you delete this post we will not be able to track their IP address. WE NEED AT LEAST ONCE POST FROM A USER TO TRACK AN IP. So in this case, I would recommend moving the thread to this forum using the "move topic" tool in the moderator menu and then banning the user instead of deleting the thread all together. 3. Merging/Splitting Topics - This isn't something I would expect you would do very often, but at the bottom of the page there are options in the moderator menu that will allow you to do this. So, for example, if someone creates a topic about a track they are working on, and then 2 weeks later creates ANOTHER thread about the same track as an "update", you could merge these two topics together. 5. Delete Multiple Posts in a thread - If you click the "moderator control panel, you'll see all the posts in the topic you are currently viewing. You can check mark the box for all the posts you want to select, and then use the pull down menu and choose 'delete posts', be VERY CAREFUL that only the posts you want to delete are checked! Once you have deleted the posts you cannot un-delete them! I think that is pretty much it! Lastly I just want to say THANKS to all of you for helping out! If you have any specific questions about what to edit, etc please just ask! --Robb
mcjaco Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Basically, if you have a question, ask here first. I'll give you a recommendation. Trust me, after short order, you'll figure out which ones are trouble posters, and which ones aren't.
