d_gil72 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Hi all, I would like to hear your advice as i am planning a visit to sweden next June and just found out about the national swedish Midsummer Holiday. I am planning on being in stocholm from the 21st and go over to the other side at the 23rd. As i understand it takes place at the 24th of june 2011 (?) as i was planning on being in Leisberg park 23-25th i was wondering if anyone "in the know" can tell me about this holiday and if it usually effect crowds at the park? I mean, is this like a MAJOR holiday or something i should not take into account too much? How are the usual mid-june crowds over there?? As this is probably going to be my only visit to the park the next few years i really don't want to find myself waiting in 2 hr long lines... Thanks , Gil
Totopez Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I actually think you might have picked a good time to visit the park. Midsummer is a big holiday, almost the whole country closes down and goes out on the countryside or to the archipelago, where they eat raw fish, drink loads of alcohol, dance around a phallic symbol and mate in the bushes. But very few go to the bigger cities, and Stockholm is basically dead. Specially on Midsummers Day (the 25th) when everyone are so hangover they dont want to think about roller coasters or drop towers. I haven't been to Liseberg on Midsummers Day in 20 years, but back then it was pretty deserted, specially if you arrive early. Gröna Lund in Stockholm was very nice last Midsummers Day. However, I would try to avoid the park on Midsummers Eve, late evening. At least Gröna Lund attracts lots of youngsters who perhaps had a bit to much to drink. But if you plan to go early, it shouldnt be a problem. Have a nice trip!

What is the best way to get to grona lund from the city centre? a tram/train? You mention stocholm is "dead" on Midsummer day - Does this effect public transportation? And one last question - Do any of these park have "Qbot" style options? Thank you! Gil
