snoflake15
Divv - I suppose I am an example. My visits this year: Alton Towers 1 Loudoun Castle 0. I don't think it's location is that much of an issue. It's not that much further from Glasgow than M & D's. And look at how inaccessible AT is. If a park is worth going to it will get visitors whatever the location.
cobra_roll06
It's a sad loss but I think everyone knew the day was coming. I used to go a couple of times a year as a kid but didn't visit again until a couple of years ago. Although I do have a soft spot for the park, I have to echo what other have said. It was never busy and it wasn't in the best location. Two negatives doesn't always make a positive. Though with the amount of land there is, there is a ton of potential there if the right owners were to buy it. Hopefully the Schwarzkopf will find a new home close by! Ewan
I think the sad thing is that the park had so much land that had soooo much potential. It will be missed. Transport links would have helped majorly here. Alton Towers was worth visiting because it has the rides. Maybe good sponsorship such as Paultons with their new Peppa Pig World may have made a difference. Scotland does need a good Park. M &D's gets the punters but god knows why. They are strange with their restrictions. My 5 yr old nephew wasn't allowed on the kids horse ride by himself and I wasn't allowed to take him on it!!! DandAyr
I've seen transport links mentioned a couple of times - private transport, its straight down the motorway from Glasgow then a 10minute drive from the dual carriadeway on good A roads - I can think of a couple of UK parks that would wish they were as handy to good road network. - public transport, train to Kilmarnock from Galston then a bus out to Galston and a short walk or a taxi from Kilmarnock I dont see transport as an issue - maybe just not caught the market right? It is aimed at families and most rides are for the teenagers and younger. For parents, and the twenty somethings (or older without kids) its not going to fill a whole day out. As a parent its a great day whole day out, seeing your kids enjoy it and taking part on some rides as well - maybe what was needed was a lower price model to reflect tha adults are not going for Alton Towers type day out? snoflake15
^ agreed on the transport issue. It was perfectly accessible for those wanting to go. From my point of view it was missing a big attraction to pull in the punters. By the way without being insulting to anyone, can you think of anything worse than a holiday lodge in Galston? Shockwave
^A holiday lodge in Coatbridge? Govan? Kirkcaldy?
Fallen Heretic
^ There is a slightly swanky hotel in Coatbridge, does that count? Anywhere that is fields with woods nearby is a target for holiday villas (I use the term loosely) these days. Its a shame. I cant complain though cos I rarely visited Loudon Castle. If I didnt support it by spending money there, then Ive no right to moan.
snoflake15
^^ There's some space beside the Science Centre for some holiday cottages!
